You’ve opened up a can of worms now. Steely Dan is a HUGE rabbit hole. You’re gonna love these guys.
I'm a competent bass player, and I can't even imagine doing to this song what Chuck Rainey is doing to this song with his bass skills. WOW.
Who else is super hungry for every steely dan reaction video? 🤔i literally check that shit 🤤
Aja is as perfect an album as any artist has ever recorded. Every track is incredible and there's enough variety to mix things up as well.
TRUTH! 🔥🤘
Yeah, for me it's Aja, Royal Scam, then Gaucho. All remarkable achievements.
💯! Think aja might the most sampled of steely Dan's albums..those hooks!
Steve Gadd's epic work on the title track is still being talked about 50 years later
My favorite band for the last 35 years.
Mine from the past 45 years . 1975 Baby
same
I graduated from high school in 1975 went this came out
What really made Steely Dan, was not just gathering the best musicians. They matched particular musicians for specific songs. Then did a masterful job of blending and adding sounds to create one of the best albums ever produced.
They hired some of the very best studio session musicians of the day and you can hear the quality
that shit does groove.
Ok now do Bodhisattva, Aja, Black Cow, Don't Take Me Alive, FM (No Static At All), Reelin' in the Years...
Yes! All those!
Babylon Sisters !
"Black Cow" next then "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Do It Again", "Hey Nineteen", "Deacon Blues" and "Reelin' In The Years". Deep rabbit hole man. One of the deepest.
You are correct buy you left out dirty work.
"don't take me alive" ... "FM (no static at all)" ... "Kid Charlemange" ... "Babylon Sisters" ..."Aja" ... "My old school" ..."Josie"
@@bridgetlaw1484 "King of the World" ... "Caves of Altamira"..."Any Major Dude"..."Home At Last"..."Pretzel Logic"..."Chain Lightning"....
Peg!!!!❤❤❤❤ Deacon Blues❤❤❤❤ ooooh man! Good stuff right there!
IGY!!!
Steely Dan is the best!!! Glad you like their brilliance. Michael McDonald was backup singer for them- and you hear him on the choruses.
Truly one of the best in the business. Every song they do is different. It's like going on a road trip and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Huge rabbit hole with these guys. The hits are endless.
Prince was a huge Steely Dan fan. This song shows it more than any other. Everything about it sonds like a Prince song. Even the lyrics.
Next, try their songs “Hey Nineteen” , and. “My Old School”
For the high school prom vibe!
BTW.... subscribed a day or two before I posted above
Absolutely one of the great rock bands, ever....
Wow...this is your first Steely Dan? Awesome!! There are SO MANY great songs!
Steely Dan has an eternal sound.
Dirty Work.... so off beat BUT PERFECT!
My childhood
Mine, too.
Listening to Don't Take Me Alive on the upscale FM Album AOR stations was awesome listening experience
I grew up on a steady diet of Steely Dan in the 70s right up until now
My kids grew up on Steely Dan, they called it Sunday morning music 🎶
Peg is the best place to start
You're one of us now!
YESSS!!!! Keep going with Steely Dan and then move on to the "Doobie Brothers" (same time period).... Start with "Long Train Running" and "Black Water" with them.... and, YES, their name is in fact because they were always smoking "doobies" back in the day. When they were trying to come up with a name a friend jokingly said "you oughta call yourselves the doobie brothers". The rest is history.... great reaction! "Hey Nineteen" and maybe "Reelin' In The Years" next for Steely Dan. Peace....
Yes! Agree with you on all of it! :)
Marotta and Rainey straight killing it on the drums and bass. Simply sublime.
Chuck Rainey's amazing bass playing really makes this song for me. This is one of those albums we used to say is 'all killer, no filler". It is also a production masterpiece of studio brilliance. One of the best engineered records straight out of the gate I have ever heard.
There isn't a bad track on the Aja album in my view. What I would suggest as good 'next steps' in your Steely Dan explorations would be "Deacon Blues", "Black Cow" and "Josie" from the Aja album. Also "My Old School" on Steely Dan's album "Countdown to Ecstasy", and "Do It Again" & "Reelin' In the Years" from their album "Can't Buy A Thrill"
Truth be told there are no boring, mediocre Steely Dan tunes
@@289hipo you’re right!!! If someone is “bored” with Steely Dan… That’s on THEM!!!
I think he'd enjoy Black Cow the most out of all of those.
Welcome to The Steely Dan experience!
"What other Steely Dan should I react to?"
Everybody: Any of them!
If jazz funk is your ache, then Steely Dan is your cure.
I tried not to burst out crying but when he said “I was being *Disrespectful* my laughter could no longer be contained!” 😂👌🔥
Kid Charlemagne. that ones fire
Agreed!!
One of my fav songs of the 70s ,,, Released in 1977 ,,, I was 17 MAAAAAN I miss the sweet 70 DEEZ ,
Kanye sampled that.
Steely Dan...a huge rabbit hole. Go for it my friend. On this tune, during the chorus, you hear Michael McDonald singing harmonies, but he's doing at least three parts to make a chord. Guy's amazing. Check the Doobie Brothers. Good before, and after Michael McDonald.
I somehow came out of the womb knowing this song. My parents were huge Steely Dan fans. I’ve now seen them 4 times in concert and saw Donald Fagen once as a solo act when he recently did his tour for his first solo album The Nightfly, albeit decades after it was released. I knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity so I had to go, and The Nightfly is my favorite album of all time. Cried when Walter Becker died and I remember exactly where I was at when I got the news. I actually just ate dinner this evening with the former coworker that broke the news to me.
Bizmatik, here are the coolest Steely Dan songs you need to reaction to: "FM", "Do It Again", "My Old School", "Black Cow", "Babylon Sisters", "Black Friday", "Josie", "Reeling in the Years", & "Aja", among many others!! Do it! Check this band out!

I've been listening to Steely Dan for over 35 years, and I'm finding it really hard to imagine that people STILL don't know who they are... yet the Renaissance is happening!! Good times and good music await all who partake.

That's Michael McDonald (Doobie Bros) Singing background vocals on this track.
So much funky and jazzy stuff in the 70’s.
Love Steely Dan. This is a highlight of my Saturday night playlist.
To start off the night with dancing, I hit “Dancing Fool” from The Guess Who.
If I’m working overnight, “Blue Collar” by BTO.
And if I’m just chilling, “Blackwater” by the Doobie Brothers.
So many great hits. Once you board this train, you won't want to get off.

The magnificent Michael McDonald is singing background on this track! The whole album is a masterpiece!
Steely Dan is in their own class. They have 50 songs worth reacting behind. "Home at Last" is one to do. It's on this same album.
Beautiful to someone hearing them for the first time.
I'm so glad you got to Steely Dan! One of my favorite bands. I'm excited to follow you on this journey. Enjoy! ♡
“Do it again” - a GROOVY Steely Dan song - a must listen...
Steely Dan simply did not know how to write a bad song, They are a band that took elements of jazz, blues, r&b, rock, funk, threw it all in a blender and poured it out onto the table.
Super smooth soulful vibe!!!
I'm digging your Grove🙂
Need to do more, you will love it!!!!!
Steely Dan is 2 guys...Walter Becker and Donald Fagan....they would assemble the greatest musicians on the planet when they recorded an album and when they toured...they have multiple albums and not a bad song on any of them...I'll enjoy the ride with you...
Peg is the truth! Glad you like it!!
Please don’t be “despicable” and listen to FM, Kid Charlemange, Do It Again and Aja! Steely Dan is the GOAT!! Your reactions to all the great music I’ve heard growing up (1958) makes me appreciate what I took for granted. Now I am “listening” with you and enjoying YOUR reactions! What’s next? Bring it on!!👏🏽😍
Check out Steely Dan "Reelin' in the Years", "Do it Again", "Black Cow", "Deacon Blues", "Rikki don't lose that number", "Josie", and "Hey Nineteen"

I love watching people get into the music no matter the genre! 😁♥️👌🏾
Your Going To Like This One !
It's crazy how music is out there that we haven't heard. i'm fascinated by reaction videos. music can now have a life and reach much greater than radio play ever gave it. people all around the world can discover music/art that was boxed in by executive decisions; for generations!
Love watching reaction for first listens to steely Dan you fall in love at first listen with every tune
Steely Dan is wayyy cool! I KNEW you'd dig them too! I just love it when you groove to these great artists! "Do It Again" & "FM" are BADASS! Everything they do is great! Just check 'em out Biz! 🔥🤘
Been a fan for 40yrs! In fact, back when I was dating, if I asked the guy do you like Steely Dan and the answer was "No" - that was a deal breaker! If they said "Who"- I would say "come with me, I want to take you on a journey!" Check out more - you will love it!
Steely Dan=Feel good and forget the b.s. of the world music❤️

Big Smiles and Chair Dancing! You're hooked now - everything on that Aja album is a keeper. Have fun exploring Steely Dan, also Donald Fagen's solo "New Frontier" off the Nightfly album.
One of the all-time greats, it's hard to listen to that song and not smile!
You deserve more subs. You are now one of my fave reactors as you really appreciate good music.. check out Babylon Sisters - Hey Nineteen
New sub here. Had to check this out. Great reaction to great music. If you want more SD check out Deacon Blues, Black Cow, Do It Again, Hey Nineteen, FM, Josie, Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Thanks for the subb 🤘🏿
Dig deeper on SD. Green Earrings; Night by Night; Glamour Profession; Babylon Sisters. Enjoy this rabbit hole you're going down. Steely Dan just does not write any bad songs
the thing with Becker and Fagen, was, they moved to L.A. from new york, for the purposes of studio artists (studio rats) that were much more professional than the musicians in nyc. They hired a legend in Bernard Purdie when they got him to do percussion on some tracks to this album. Thanks for the critique and keep groovin!!!!
Everything works with these guys. Everything....
Check out Eye Know by De la Soul. Great sample of this song.
This song has SO MANY great memories attached to it for me! Such a good groove tune.
You should really check out “Do It Again” and “Hey Nineteen!”
Don't forget the doobie brothers Micheal mcdonald on background vocals. Man I had excellent taste in music as a little kid.
