    I love this song . David Bowie and Carlos Alomar ( the black guy standing behind and off to the left of Bowie in this performance ) are the rare artists in rock and pop music who got better as they aged . In the 90s into the 2000s imho Bowie helped create better live musical arrangements for this song and Bowie's singing range became larger and with more variety of vocalizations . Alomar while being basically a rhythm guitarist at this time, but also brought funk and various rhythms to Bowie's repertoire ( Fame 1975 is one of the notable songs Alomar helped create the basic musical part of ) Today Alomar in his 60s has also become a superb virtuoso guitarist . However you will seldom see him perform because he has been a professor in the music department of a major university ( sorry forgot the name ) for at least the past 15 or so years .

      Yup. The fashion very much looks like the 80s - pleated pants, boxy shirts, even the colors. Of course, the Hawaiian print shirt.

    Amazing guitaring by Mr. Belew, I frequently contrast his playing here to that of his playing the same song later on the 1990 "Sound and Vision" tour where the sonic pallet is expanded greatly...

    and the way David forced Adrian to extend the intro and keep on grooving that awesome riff of his. David, as a masterful conductor, pushed the whole band into euphoria and improvisation from the very beginning.

    I was listening to an interview with John Frusciante recently and he talked about how he listen to Adrian Belew a lot when he was learning guitar. Watching and listening to this it’s pretty obvious he learned a great deal from him including guitar choice and sound, and even how to dress!

  • @MusicCollaborator
    @MusicCollaborator 8 лет назад +20

    Bowie always killed it live when it came to "Stay" I highly recommend looking for his other performances of this through the years. Bowie wrote an incredible amount of great songs. "Fame", Ziggy" "Space Oddity" Absolute Beginners" "Under Pressure", "I'm Afraid Of Americans", "Let's Dance", "Magic Dance"? lol, "Changes", Heroes" "Stay", Rebel Rebel" "The Jean Genie", "Time" "This Is Not America" "Young Americans", "Ashes To Ashes" "The Man Who Sold The World", "Lazarus", "Blackstar", "The Stars Are Out Tonight" "Scary Monsters", "Fashion" add your ten Bowie tunes in reply.

    loving every moment they waiting for the fizzing fuse to blast them and the song higher
    sky-high the Belew mortar bomb primed and wow what a blast.. when this song was new
    minted that Belew outro was truly amazing thought it was the hendrix risen from the grave

    Thank you, just subscribed... I used to see Adrian in my hometown, Nashville Tn. in a cover band I believe called "Valentine", late 70s of course... The comment, just 2 hours before says it all. Best band you never heard but DB (David) always had great bands or players like SRV.... However, to see David just glide to the edge of the stage and just "Gaze" at these Master craftsmen at what they do do support "What he always does and has done" is what it is all about... He is of course the Rock Star here, but "Hand picked" these guys and he knows he got it right!! Priceless ! RIP DB
