Lucie Arnaz herself said they didn’t look like her parents but she felt they captured the essence of who they were. I’m curious to see it now, but i gotta really TRY to ignore the fact that NO ONE in this looks like the real ones. I think they were goin more for character study instead of just look-a likes.
But I have to say from watching these clips that Nicole has mastered Lucy's voice. Lucy's voice isn't anything like Nicole's, and I was very impressed by it.
If they dont look like or resemble Lucie's parents there is no essence there !!!

She's done it before. In "The Hours" she used a deeper raspy voice to play Virginia Wolf. She had a raspy voice when she starred in Photograph 51 on the West End (which I was lucky enough to see live) and in the indie film Destroyer a couple years back.
She sounds just like Lucy!!!

Double crime here:
1) Shot so dark, nothing to do with the brightness of their sets and 60s LA, also depriving us of seeing their faces clearly.
2) Nicole deserved Best Actress by a longshot. Give her the recognition she deserves. Hours of study and intense concentration to portray a character do different from her own. A Masterpiece in the history of Cinema.
I'm glad they didn't try to go with look-a-likes, but went instead with strong actors. We all know what Lucy, Desi, Viv and Bill looked like. This is a look into who they actually were and I for one can't wait to see this...

Most people don't know what Lucy looked like without make-up. She was around 40 at the time of this, almost no eyebrows, and somewhat pasty-looking. Kidman is doing the plainer-looking Lucille Ball, not "Lucy." I think her voice is excellent, but they should have made her more pale.
Ok, But it's very difficult for me to relate to this when they look and talk nothing like the people they are portraying.
We don't want a Lucille Ball impersonation, and this is Lucille Ball not "Lucy", nevertheless, you have to look somewhat like the person you're betraying and she doesn't. Neither does Bardem remind me in the least of Desi Arnaz.
Oh, I'll be thrilled to see this movie! It's brought back so many memories...

Nicole didn't look like Lucy at all but she did such an epic job sounding like her and her mannerisms. I was very impressed.
Neither did he, Nicole was great!!! With all due respect, Desi was very very handsome (that was Lucy's headache) and he was not But they both were great!!! There is a latin actor, whose name I do not remember at the moment, very handsome, who could have been perefect to play Desi. Oh well!!! They both did a great job!!!

Did she EVER! I'd never heard of her before, my first sight of her was as Vivian Vance, but she is beautiful. I saw a photo of her later on, but you're right, LadyVader, she nailed it.

Sarah Paulson could have played this part without the weird Ameristralian accent.

This film missed the mark & makes "Lucy" depressing as hell. Not a great tribute to the Queen of TV comedy & her co-stars. (For one thing, Vivian Vance was not a smoker)
The only thing i saw Javier in was No Country For Old Men[which he was great in]but he nailed Ricky.
Vivian Vance was not a smoker...this is so dark...Desi and Lucy did not have a dark relationship and Nicole does not look or act like Lucy at all. Definitely disappointed in this one.
Viv did smoke, as did the others. Unfortunately, Lucy and Desi were always troubled, and it appears BTR shows them true to their complicated, passionate relationship!

I thought I was the only one. Nicole is a great actress, but unlike her Pamela Smart portrayal, she sounds too identifiable as herself here. Soft, quiet. Not sure about this one. But I do hope it pleases the fans.
And Vivian was a truly nice woman in real life = not like she's portrayed here.

Nicole Kidman looks like Renee Zellweger to me and she dosent sound like LUCY at all , Lucy had a deep voice she knew how to make it higher as possible !!!

Great....Lucy and Desi shouldnt be forgotten and this helps keep their legend alive kinda like the Beatles Get Back film. They dont do stuff that iconic anymore. Maybe behind the scenes it wasnt as easy and fun as it looks but thats show biz.
Okay, Nicole is alright and she sounds like Lucille did outside the show, but the actor playing Desi looks way too old. Desi looked very youthful and in fact was years younger than Lucille. Why did they get some one so old is beyond me.

Who wants to see these icons arguing, so sorry. I'm not interested in their warts. Watching actually makes me nervous and reminds me of my arguing, unhappy parents who also split after 20 yrs. So Aaron this is not art, it's sadness.

Everything is like that now, Dinero. Either that, or the weird blue-gray what is it "color". This is what has become of color films today. No technicolor like 60 or 80 years ago. Nothing. It doesn't matter anyway. Nearly any and all good-great movies were made a long time ago anyway. Theaters are definitely going away. They've been on the way out for years. The new Westside Story has been declared a bomb and this film likely will too.
It’s not a movie about “I Love Lucy”. It’s a movie about Lucille and Desi. Their real lives aren’t their screen lives
She is awful in her role. She doesnt look like her nor have the same grace.
I like Nicole but she couldn't play Grace Kelly and she can't play Lucy. It's just not there. Not to mention that scary face they gave her. It looks unnatural. NOPE.

I wonder if William Frawley said he'd like to beat the shit out of Rusty Hamer! I am ambivalent about seeing this. The early "I Love Lucy" period was the happiest moment of my family's life. I was just out of diapers when the show debuted in October 1951. All my male cats have been named Desi. I loved Danny Pino as Desi in a TV show about Lucille and Desi Arnaz.
My challenge with this project is....A story told from the point of view of a 3rd party that never met n had 0 relationship with any of the principles......I wld be much more interested in any story expressed by Lucie or Desi Jr b/c they lived it...the good,the bad,the ugly......

Could they have found an actor that is any uglier and older looking to play Desi? Seriously? Nicole is a good choice for Lucy but Javier Bardem was NOT the right choice to play Desi.

They don’t resemble them at all, but it’s Kidman’s plastic surgery that bothers me the most. She has had too much filler or Botox trying to make herself look more like Lucy. I thought the real Lucy aged beautifully.

TV movie actors looked closer to the real people. Casting Nicole Kidman is just wrong. She’s a great actress. But she’s just not right for the role. Doesn’t even look remotely like Lucy. Can’t pull off her accent either. The studio just wants to cast stars. It could do so much better.
I think she does a great job with Lucy's voice, which was low and 'smoky'.
Debra Messing would have been wonderful. Unfortunately they believed Nicole Kidman would be a bigger draw at the box office.
