In some behind the scenes feature I saw many years ago they said that the guy in the intro scene who dresses like Indiana Jones was made clear in an earlier draft of the script to be Marion's dad, Dr. Abner Ravenwood, though they ultimately cut that bit from the final version they shot.
So it makes sense that he seemed to have taken a shine to young Indy and that he gave him his hat and he later grew up to model his look on him, since he later went on to be his mentor when Indy went to college and Marion said in the original movie that they were really close and he loved Indy like a son.

For Sean Connery, I'm sure most people will recommend him as the original James Bond. Release order is Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever. If you're only going to pick one, go for Goldfinger. All of the James Bond films from 1962 until 2006 have no real watch order, with just a few references to past films. I would say You Only Live Twice shouldn't be the first to watch.
If you don't go with Bond, you can go for The Hunt for Red October, The Rock, The Great Train Robbery, Outland, The Untouchables. My personal preference from that list would be Outland or Hunt for Red October.

    "Nazis. I hate these guys."
Fun Fact: Sir Sean Connery and Harrison Ford wore no trousers during the shooting of the entire Zeppelin sequence. It was a hot set.
Clean Rats Fact: 2,000 rats were bred for the production. Breeding them specially was necessary, as ordinary rats would have been riddled with disease.
Authentic Battle Damage Fact: Harrison Ford cut his chin in a car accident in southern California when he was about twenty years old. In the movie, this cut is explained by young Indiana Jones (River Phoenix) cutting his chin with a whip.
Authentic Costume Fact: Most of the uniforms worn by the Nazis in the Berlin book-burning scene are authentic World War II uniforms, not replicas. A cache of old uniforms was found in Germany and obtained by costume designer Anthony Powell to be used in this movie.
Young Indiana Jones Fact: Harrison Ford nominated River Phoenix to play him as a teenager, having worked with him before on The Mosquito Coast (1986). When describing how he prepared for playing the role, Phoenix explained that he didn't really base his portrayal on the Indiana Jones character, but on Harrison Ford. So he observed Ford out of character before acting his part.

I know you said Chandra has seen the 4th movie, but has Jordan seen it as well? Regardless, please don't listen to the hate about the 4th movie. Plenty of us love it. As someone that grew up seeing each of these movies in the theatre, and then seeing Crystal Skull when it came out, I absolutely love that movie. And that's only grown with every rewatch. The only thing different about it is that it's Indy in the 1950s, instead of the '30s - and I think they did a perfect job of making the best of that. Lucas and Spielberg, making movies together, is a special kind of magic!

That's River Phoenix. Probably the best actor of his generation. He played Ford's son in the Mosquito Coast, and Ford requested him for this. He was known for his dead-on impression of Ford on the Mosquito Coast set. And Ford had said Phoenix looked like him when he was young. He was the older brother of Joaquin Phoenix. But sadly, died at 23. He was also one of the 4 main characters in Stand By Me. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at age 17 for Running on Empty. An unbelievable talent. He was Leo Dicaprio's acting hero, and mine too. Tragedy we lost him so young. Thankfully, we still got many incredible performances to remember him by. RIP

13:13: Catacombs. Used to be a very honorable way to lay the dead to rest. The catacombs of Paris are particularly famous.
19:55: "The only thing he hates more than snakes."
I'd actually say he hates snakes more than Nazis. He doesn't become paralyzed with fear around Nazis.
37:12: "I did not think we were going to get horse vs. tank."
Knights, heavy armored cavalry, used to be the kings of the battlefield, the unit that was worth the most and the most difficult to take down. At this time, that role belonged to the tank. So Indy on horseback vs. tank is basically a knight versus a larger, stronger, more powerful knight, winning against the stronger opponent through intelligence, guile, and because his cause is just.

River Phoenix played young Indy. He was also in Stand by Me.
When I was young, I was watching this at a friend's house, and they had a German foreign exchange student. So she was telling us the translations of things that didn't have subtitles. One of them was when Indy is fighting on the tank and falls forward with his face mashed against the periscope. The soldier inside smirks and then says something. The person we were watching with laughed and told us, "He says the Americans are fighting like... and then he uses a not nice word for girls."
That temole carved into the cliff face seems too impossible to be real, but it really does exist.

    Goldfinger (1964)
    Thunderball (1965)

Also, something to consider for St. Patrick's Day is Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959). It's a Disney live-action movie. Connery isn't the lead (listed third in the credits) but you get to hear him sing.
