Their good because they actually value their boards. Those things are expensive as fuck and most people here can't afford them. So, when a Filipino kid gets a board they actually learn how to skate instead what happens in richer countries where the kid tries a couple of times and then gives up. I've lived here on and off for years, between here and Japan, and I got nothing but the utmost respect for the graffiti artists and skaters here. They really got that work ethic you can only get from having to overcome limitations your whole life. It's more fun in the Philippines!

There is a rise of skateparks in the Philippines, but admittedly not enough :) Filipinos are really good skaters but most lack the resources to do proper skating. They learn on the streets and for some reason it seems like they're never hurt during a bail, except if they have an actual broken bone lol. Random street kids will watch and learn, try to borrow a board, and next thing you know they're riding full speed and doing ollies. A lot of initiatives are being done for free skate clinics and free equipment and it's really good, but once skating is considered a full blown sport here and it's given enough attention I think Filipinos will be unstoppable. Great video man, keep it up and stay safe on your travels!

the filipinos are good because they go through actual obstacles on a daily basis (no skateparks, no decent sidewalks, security guards, no protection, etc)

There are skate parks here in the Philippines. But they are only a few in between so they are inaccessible to a majority of the people. Heck the only one I know of and been to is the one in Tagaytay. There are more for sure but like I said there are so few.

Just a little bit of Philippine skateboarding history. Early 70's is when the Pepsi skateboarding club showed up in the country and there was an offer of immediate membership for the price of buying a pack of Purefoods hotdog and a litter of soda. I thought that was the best thing in the world and proud to say that I was an official member of this club.
Back then, the tricks were limited to wheelies, 360's, basic flips and half pipes (small ones). The membership did not amount to any privileges and just nostalgia.
People have been riding the board in pinas for a very long time and one of them is in their retirement years :-)
