    In this video, I review the Wurkkos FC-12. This is a 2000+ lumen tactical flashlight powered by one 18650 battery.
    ‪@wurkkosflashlight1052‬ provided this light for review. I was not paid to do this review - the opinions in this video are my own.
    I don't have many thrower flashlights. The reason being, they're difficult to carry around. Most have large reflectors, and even the ones with TIR lenses have larger heads, which stick out of your pocket.
    With the FC-12, you don't have that issue. This light has a deep but narrow reflector that allows you to easily slip it into your pocket or on your belt without any fuss. The FC-12 comes with a Luminus SFT-40 emitter (I have the 6500K version) that produces in excess of 2000 lumens! When you turn it on, you realise that this light has some SERIOUS throw. I estimate that it reaches between 350 - 400 metres (visibly).
    For approximately $30 on Amazon, it's budget-friendly, and you don't need to sacrifice quality. The finish on this light is smooth and even, the threads are square cut and anodised nicely. This light is made out of 6061 aircraft-grade aluminium. Machining is solid, I couldn't spot any flaws in mine (I have the champagne-coloured one). The best thing is that it comes with everything you need. You get a new battery, double-sided clip, lanyard, USB-C charging cable and user manual.
    With a spring bypass mod to the head and tail cap, I'm sure it could throw even further. I like that it comes with a double-sided clip. These are very versatile - you can clip the light to the front of your hat and becomes a makeshift headlamp!
    One of my favourite features of this light is the tactical switch. I don't have any other tactical lights, and in the beginning, I thought it was gimmicky. But boy I was wrong! You can access turbo and any other brightness level from a half-press of the tail switch. It feels different, more solid in my hand - it forms part of my fist and is very discreet due to the size. To access turbo from tactical mode, you need to be in smooth ramping mode, and ramp right to the top. I find it to be a very convenient and natural way to provide a short blast of light.
    Don't get me wrong - it's not the brightest thrower out there. But that's not the point. You can't carry those around easily. SBT 90.2 lights also weigh more and require more juice to run. The FC-12 ticks all my boxes for a light that you can chuck in your pocket/bag, take everywhere and light up an entire alley, or dark street from a long distance.
    Sometimes, the best flashlight is the one you can pocket conveniently, and this is the one I keep on grabbing before I head out into the night.
    Do you have any questions about this light? Would you carry one of these around? Let me know in the comments below.

    Notes/Transcript:
    Observations after using it for a week - keep in mind I use it in urban areas mostly
    • The bi-directional clip has come in handy and I've used it on my hat too.
    • Comfortable in hand - tactical mode is something I wasn't familiar with before. But it feels quite natural and feels like part of your hand/fist rather than you trying to conform to it
    • Feels natural in the pocket, I forget it's there.
    • Ramp mode - tactical access
    Pros:
    • Great deal @ $35
    • 18650 flashlight - thinner and smaller than other comparable 21700 flashlights, but with the same brightness.
    • Bright hotspot, 2000+ lumens- Throws amazingly far with useable spill too.
    • Moonlight mode - a shortcut from off
    • Tactical mode - a very practical Access to turbo in tactical mode - in ramp mode - instant turn on
    • High-quality construction (6061 aircraft grade aluminium)+ Fantastic Finish - glossy hard anodizing. Comes in lots of colours.
    • Generously cut SQUARE threads
    • Comes with a battery, clip, charging cable, lanyard, spare O-rings AND 1-year warranty - can't go wrong!
    Cons:
    • Bluish tint - this is the norm with the SFT-40, so be prepared for some shift. On the other hand, it illuminates very well.
    • Power controlled by a back switch. Cannot turn on or off from e-switch
    Slow progressive ramp - a bit of jitter at times

    Awesome review of the FC12. I've never really given this model a thought until I heard you mention it in a couple of your beam shot comparison episodes, mate. Wouldn't have pulled the trigger if not for your influential videos! 😭
    I ordered mine in grey (that's the only colour variation available other than black or purple) and it comes in with the Luminus SFT-40 but in 6000K version, not 6500K. I expect to receive it by the end of this week. It's odd that Wurkkos offers a color temp variation in 6000K though but I prefer this colour temp over 5000K or 6500K. 🤔
    As a side note, the floody FC13 and Convoy M1 with the CSLMN.F1 greenie have already arrived and I'm still puzzling over configuring the group mode. I thought that Anduril was complicated until I had a taste of Biscotti UI! Right now my M1 is still stuck at the Group 1 mode but I'm all right with having biking and voltage check modes.
    I'm expecting three more lights to arrive: the FC12, TD02 and the elusive Anduril based TS25 with the quad Nichia L351D (yay!). I think I'm done with FLs for the rest of the year. 😁🔦x15!

      Have you thought of getting a 50-100K lumen light yet? Haha. For some reason I was really into them in the beginning, now I just like compact throwers.

      I limit my pickings to single cell, 21700 and 18650 flashlights, mate. 😀 In an effort to curb my enthusiasm, sealed battery, 26650, 18350, and 14500 format torches are crossed off from my hit list. The Wurkkos TS11 is an exception as I could use the 18650 cell with the optional tube, which I also ordered.
      I understand that when it comes to FLs you usually get exactly what you pay for. Non flashaholics don't really care about the FC13, M21B, TD03, SP33V3, TS22 etc - to these folks, they're just "flashlights". On the other hand, show them the beam shot of an Imalent MS18 or SR32 and post it on RUclips shorts, that's guaranteed to draw at least 10,000 views! People don't really take note of the brand or model - they just want to see the dazzling beam of "The Brightest Flashlight In The World". 😎🔦🔆🌏
      True mate, having a 100K lumen mini-sun will earn me bragging rights of the neighbor with the brightest flashlight! Fair dinkum? If a torch has an internal proprietary battery, cooling fans or is too large to fit my jeans pocket, chances are that I have absolutely no need for it! 🙂 On a personal note, I like tactical and Anduril throwers and flooders that use a single cell. For example, I like the Sofirn IF25 and the Wurkkos TS11 because they look like cheap, bargain toy LED lights sold at night bazaars. People usually underestimate their candlepower until introduce them to Mister Turbo right into their faces. 🤣
      Would love to be gifted a Nitecore TM39 or TM9K Pro though, but I wouldn't pay for one. Neither qualify as budget flashlights to me! ☺

    I haven't seen anyone clearly explain how to switch modes. Also, you can still get to Turbo in the other mode by half clicking the rear button and then turning it on.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Год назад

      First you need to switch on the light via tailswitch. Then you can use the side switch to change modes. Basically click and hold it to ramp up or down. You can also switch to step ramping too. Think you need to click 4 times.

    • @Billkwando

      @@DarrenYeoYT Ah! Click 4 times... I'll try that, thanks! :)

    • @Billkwando
      @Billkwando Год назад +1

      @@DarrenYeoYT Apparently they changed it so now you hold the side button while it's on to change modes.
      In Normal mode you have to click the side button to cycle through the various light levels, and double click to turbo, or you can half click the tail button when it's off, and then turn it on for turbo. Triple clicking the side button cycles through strobe modes.
      The other mode, Tactical mode, goes straight to turbo when you turn it on (which is what I wanted) and then you can click the side button to go to a "normal" light level. There are no multiple steps. Double clicking the side button cycles through strobe modes. When it's off, half clicking the tail button and turning it on in this mode goes straight to strobe mode.
      It appears there is no more smooth ramping feature.

    it looks like you do know your flashlights so this should be easy question for you, Which flashlight with 18650 battery has illuminated switch button in off position like BLF Q8? And does any of them have illuminated switch button changing color as a battery indicator when the battery is getting depleted in off position? It would be a great help.
    Thank you.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Год назад

      Hey there, the Sofirn SC31 Pro and Wurkkos FC13 have the illuminated switch feature. In the FC13, you can even change the colour of it. But I'm not aware of any that show the battery level via power switch. Some lights like the Wuben C3 and Nextorch E51C have a separate light on the head that indicates the battery level when you first switch the light on. I'm trying to tag my friends @Tim McMahon and @Piercingthedarkness as they may know more.

    • @DarrenYeoYT

      I just realised the FC13 has a voltage mode for the aux light that shows voltage of the battery by colour.

  • @AAA-tc1uh
    @AAA-tc1uh Год назад

    FYI, The FC12 now comes with a different, "tactical" UI, same as the SP35T and C8L: Instead of the ramping mode you now have tactical mode: tail switch is turbo-only for half/full press, double click for strobe, side switch cycles medium-turbo and no memory. An excellent upgrade IMHO.

      Hi Steve, try to source ones with high draw capacity (20A seems to be the max for 18650 cells). Samsung 25r has highest draw but capacity is 2500mAh. I don't think this light will draw more than 10A so you could go with a Samsung 30Q or 35E. Are you in Australia? Yeah I find there's always a trade off and with the SP35, it's a great little and I prefer the colour temperature but I always wished it threw further. End of the day an SFT40 emitter will throw more than SST40, especially in a deep reflector like in the FC-12. It's a steal for $35. I'm gonna mod the tail spring on mine to try boost it more 🤠
