For sure Big Chef! White glue pre assemblies are the way to build kits correctly. I wish I had learned that tip 20 years ago😜. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.👍
It's a winner for the simple fact that we have a '71 Dodge now !!!!!!! Yes !!! But I'll definately use the Duster for the chassis and engine though ! Thanks for the review ! 😇👍
Absolutely my friend, the kitbash is the way to go with this one. It depends on how much time I have whether I do it or not. My queue is booked till June right now😜

This is so much better than just an open box review. Really enjoyed this, we get to see all the fitment that may or may not be an issue. Thanks as always James!
Well since I have built the real thing... And still do... There are a few bads and a few goods here... over all I like this kit they need to stop molding things in place for sure if your going to revamp a mold go all the way... But I will still pick up several of those kits.
Thanks for watching! Yes I agree about the shortcomings and I didn’t hold back on pointing them out. BUT, now that the kit is reissued we can all build them any way we want.
@@moparnut6286 as you know I have a guy on the inside at AMT. it’s all about money. They put money into this tool and several others in 2023. If budget allows there will be more new stuff and more modified reissues. It sure beats straight reissues!
When I saw this kit was gonna come out, it reminds me of my childhood neighbor who had a Duster. I’m getting old in my age, and was seriously considering building models of cars that people in my past, had an influence on me. Trust me, that there’s a lot of em! The way you do the white glue pre assembly, was a huge, mind opening experience! I’ve never tried that, even though I have been building models since the seventies. My main focus was on building race cars. Now that I’m considering focusing more into cars of people, and memories of my past, your videos are giving me a sense that I should build more street cars. I know that there’s much more involved with a street car, than a race car, and I’m looking forward to giving it my best shot. That White glue process, looks like a great way to approach it. Thanks for sharing your technique with us!
My pleasure Steven, I just started doing the white glue assemblies a few years ago as I grew tired of last minute fit issues. Plus when you build it for real you already know how to build it. Good luck building all of the cars you remember in your life. I’m sure it will bring you joy 👍
Like you said it is a great candidate for kit bashing parts from the 71 Duster. Oh and I think the taillights are kinda tall and the centerline on the hood is a little too pronounced. Don’t forget the oil filter on all 340’s should be angled back. They made this adapter so the larger filter can be used and clear the torsion bars. Thanks for the review. I’ll be getting mine soon.
Count me as another fan of your white glue builds. I gained an appreciation of them when you put that '49 Ford together in an extended series. Even though that car was eventually painted and detailed, your white glue pre-build served as an excellent walk through. That interior being a tub is going to make a black/white or orange/black interior more of a challenge.
Hi Jason, thanks so much for watching. I will do more of these white glue reviews. I’m working on another project that is taking longer than expected. I hope you have it done in a week or so.
I am a big believer in test-fitting the model together as you show. I have to shake my head when I watch a build video in which the builder goes straight to paint and build. Whenever I do that I ultimately run into issues of all sorts, but for some reason their build goes together fine (LOL.) I particularly liked the one you did on the Revell 70 Roadrunner and the issue with the interior tub. Good work!
Thank you so much for watching. I don’t test fit Tamiya kits or Hasegawa. But pretty much all Fujimi and American kits I do. I also rarely use primer on non body parts. 😁
I have this kit coming via Amazon. Looking forward to it. I've done the MPC 76 Dart kit and three AMT Dusters. This kit looks to be based closely on the 76 Dart kit.
Hi Lance, logically the 76 Dart kit is actually a later reissue of the same kit. I’m sure they used what ever tooling they could to make it. Thanks for watching and good luck with your build.👍
Great unboxing there James and very interesting white glue assembly. This will definitely be helpful to anyone building this kit as you explain very well. Congrats.
Thanks for the review. I'm now really excited about this kit. Certainly going to use the Duster as a chassis donor. There will also be a Pro Stock or two built from this kit!
Nice, I really should adopt this idea of putting together first like this to see what fits and what doesn't. Sucks when you put hours into a kit with painting and details and then find the part you need to fit just doesn't. haha. done that more than once honestly. Love the detail you put into your older build but I am sure your box stock build is going to look amazing. Awesome vid! Thanks.
Looks like an awesome kit James! This video makes me want to buy it even more. Thanks for taking the time to do the review, your white glue mockup was very interesting. 😎👍
Great! I have never done a test fit for a kit and always fixed things while building, but I need to consider this as an additional step as it saves time. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. It certainly avoids frustration later in the build. Plus, when you build it for the second time painted it’s easier because you’ve already done it once.
The instructions tell you to put glue on the inner gaurds where yours are sticking up. I have the European Revell kit, i think the US instrutions are different. How cool to have a 71 Mustang for a first car. They are very rare here in Australia. But we have Cleveland engines in abundance.
Hi guy ,,even though I don't comment much I just wanted you to know that I watch as many of your videos as I can,,and the white glue trick is way cool,,later Glen
Thanks for doing the build in white glue. Yes the front end does look a little high and the back looks a little low. I’ll have to make some altercations when I get mine.
I totally agree with you, we all have to understand that just getting the old kits again is nice but with some updates is like icing on the cake. I’m sure we will see more like this along with some new tools in 2024.
Thanks, there are 2 cars I want to build in the future, both drag cars. Lately I been on this old skool dealership looking stock plain Jane car kick. So hard to tell. I also want to build the cartoonist version on the side of the box with the demon on the side of the car. So.....I'm thinking 4 of those kits should do me lol.
Possibly be on the shelves soon, We will see. Round 2 is doing a great job. Just finished the 68 Coronet R/T convertible. No problems at all with assembly. I have to retract my last statement. When trying to mount the front wheel on the Coronet, the plastic round pins that go into the back of the wheelback broke off. Also, the metal rear axle was too short. So, use caution when using those round plastic wheel pins.
Hey James! I'd knew you would pick out this new kit and do a white glue review on it. I really enjoy this method of in box reviews that you do. Putting it together quickly and temporary shows us how it'll come out. This is from the original MPC 71 Demon which which has quite a few revisions on it and it goes together much better than the original. I think the kit looks great all around but as far as me, I'd jack it up in the rear just a tad. It looks like its sagging a bit, I could be wrong? Depends how one feels about it. I do think that this car looks better than the Plymouth Duster, and I think its rare, only produced for 2 years. Thanks for this video! It was really entertaining and educational
Thank you Ray! I really wanted to mock up this new kit and show the world what’s in the box. There have been a lot of criticisms of why only parts of it were updated, but I am just happy to have it in plastic form again. Thanks for your continued support my friend👍

Great kit but you could not get a console with a manual transmission in 1971. I’ll be converting mine into an automatic transmission. The rear gull type wing is for 1970 model year cars only. The correct swept back tips wing are for 71.
Thanks for the info, I knew someone would know the answer. Good luck with your build and I’ll watch for it on social media.👍 what’s your IG FB handles?
James, not sure where one of your responses was, but in it you broke down in specifics, why Round 2 took the approach they did with the Demon. First, I was impressed. What are you like the Edward Snowden of the modeling world? Second, it somewhat tempered by disappointment with their choice. But not completely. You mentioned the choice to spend the money to give the Demon more of the Duster's detail would have been a "big gamble". I think it is one that would have paid off. The AMT Duster has been available pretty much since its release in the early 2000s. I have to believe that kit and the money spent to develop it has to be considered a success.I think betting on similar detail level Demon would have paid off. Kind of hard to tell now though, as I see it as a Lose/Lose situation. Poor sales of the Demon Kit as it is: "See, this kit did not sell as it is, glad we did not spend the extra money on it." Or a really good selling unit: "We did great with the simpler tooling. Higher detail from a bigger budget would have been a waste of money"
I see you point Jason. I have a friend at AMT so I have a little bit of knowledge of how it works. The duster is not a digital file so it would have to be scanned and converted to digital then modified digitally to fit through demon body. That’s a significant cost in time and resources. Making a few changes to a dinosaur to make it a better kit was the safer more economic choice. That way 2 or 3 kits can be put out instead of 1.
Why do you suppose they did seat backs Oops good thing it was white glue I member that battery being on top the exhaust manifold Big oops ( brick wall ) Can't wait Some prices I've seen there crazy on line
Someone please explain to me why Round 2 did a all new tooling mocking what MPC did in the '60s and early to mid '70s... especially when they did a pretty nice '71 Duster 340 with proper suspension and platform interior a few years ago... it's almost the same exact car!
Hi Robert, here’s the reason why: the tooling for the 71 Duster was not done in CAD, so therefore the “files” don’t exist to alter them to fit the Demon kit. Therefore to make an accurate Demon all of the parts would have to be made from scratch in CAD. The team at AMT has an annual budget that they can spend on reissues, new tools and straight reissues. No one person holds the money so they have to propose a list of what they think the general modeling community will buy. Spending some money to refresh an old tool is a good value vs an all new tool which is a huge gamble. I’m not part of AMT but I do understand what goes on there. I’m grateful to have the Demon and others back on the shelf to build instead of paying ridiculous prices for them on eBay. With some time and some moderate skills a very detailed Demon can be built using the Duster kit.
@@ScaleModelExperiment I know how they are using CAD for new kits and I will have one of these very soon, but the real question is why make an all new tooling using a very out of date chassis design? I have several vintage MPC Mopar kits I need to buy doner kits to finish as it is... I get it with the reissues like the '69 Barracuda and '76 Dart Sport... but an all new tooling???
I understand your point. Only some of the parts were created with new tooling. It’s strictly a budget thing. Putting all of your budget into 1 new kit is very risky.
@@ScaleModelExperiment I understand that but how much more would it have cost to mold a separate driveshaft??? To separate the exhaust from the rear end? And it's not like R-M haven't been doing 1 piece K frame and front suspension for over 40 years... Knowing how popular this kit is going to be, how hot Mopars are right now and by mid summer, Hobby Lobby will order hundreds of thousands of them... well... I'm still happy it's finally out and I'm still buying two of 'em...
@@ScaleModelExperimentBTW... I don't see anything that matches original MPC parts at all, yours is the best unboxing video I've seen of this kit yet and I pulled out my 1978 or '79 vintage 'Smokey convoy chaser' Dart sport kit and see nothing that matches the Demon kit... ive had several MPC Duster annuals and they are all exactly the same as the 'Smokey' and all it's reissues...
The white glue review is definitely more interesting than an unboxing. I can't wait for the next one.
Thanks so much Scott, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ll do more in the future.

Why do you suppose they did seat backs
Oops good thing it was white glue
I member that battery being on top the exhaust manifold
Big oops ( brick wall )
Can't wait
Some prices I've seen there crazy on line
Hi BK, yes it’s a good kit and it should be on the shelves very soon. No reason to pay eBay prices.
Separate seat backs is a good idea! I had a 1971 Demon. Seats where orange with black seat backs! It will be easier to paint!
My 72 was an all blue interior
Yes, the spoiler looks to be backwards.
I figured so, maybe just tilted wrong. It looks wonky as is. I’ll fix it when I build the kit.
White glue must take forever to dry
You’d be suprised how fast it sets up. 10 mins or so… you can put together a kit in about an hour start to finish.
Nice how to 😅
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Daniel 👍
