I have called Northway Motorsports, they clearly said at present they convert only TATA ACE - Gold. Govt has not yet given them permission to convert private family passenger car. I was really disappointed.
This is awesome. Giving a good value to people driving a lot daily in cities. Having 240km of range won't even give range anxiety and would last a week without charging for most people.
Such a good initiative by Northway motors. Actually this should be taken up by maruti india itself.A range of 240km is exceptional with this conversion which can be improved better with the newer blade battery technology. If maruti starts there electrics then it will be definitely on sale without even a test drive!!!. No other Evs can match up with their sales..As always everything comes from maruti so late..👎
Wont the high torque of the motor cause long term reliability issues for the clutch and gearbox? Also, how is the additional 200kg battery weight in the rear balanced? Won't the car be rear heavy compared to ICE model? I assume that the reduced GST benefit of OEMs won't apply either. Isn't selling your ICE car and buying a new EV a better option?
Full Motor Torque is delivered only once the clutch is engaged. Half clutching torque is limited to 50 nm. No there isnt 200kg of extra weight in the boot. Front axle and Rear Axle weights are within permissible limits. The total weight in the low range version is actually lower than the ICE Version. The extended range version is 7-8% heavier, which is within permissible limit again. GST Benefit, Road Tax refund, Engine Buy Back, and Subsidy are being worked upon and hopefull will be granted soon enough,, bringing the price down of the kit drastically. And it totally depends on the user if he wants to convert an existing car or buy a new OEM EV. Also We have options of a brand new EV Pre Convert Option, As in you buy a newly converted EV directly from us. Benefits include choosing a car thats not in the existing EV line up as of now, getting more customisation options such as Batt pack options, motor torque options, etc. Also given the current market scenario, those buying a new EV have a lead time of 6-12 months. We are ready to deliver within 3 months for a limited no of clients. Plus an additional point - Those who already have cars about an year old,specially with Loans on it, dont have the option of selling and buying another car. It makes more sense to just convert. The break even of the kit only on fuel expense is close to 18 months only for commercial application. So its worth it. But at the end of day, its an individual decision. Cheers

Great initiative by Northway but I wonder who would be their target customers. If I was a new car buyer I would pick up a tigor EV any day over this. May be this would be a good project for 10 year old vehicles which are out of commission.
Nice concept but very expensive to own one. I was getting curious for contact details of Team northway Motorsport. But after getting the cost of the kit . Dropped the idea instantly .
How do the makers wish to bring it in to the market. As of now, I see that it is viable only for those who already own a Swift dzire, and wish to upgrade to EV. But some one who wishes to replace his old car with an ev, this is not practical, bcoz a new dzire + EV kit can get you a Nexon. The options I see to sell the car to someone replacing their ice car are: 1. Partner with MS, for ev making and roll out electric marutis. 2. Buy car minus engine from maruti, fit in the kit, rebrand with their own brand name and sell.

Evolution is a journey.......we should be proud of such initiatives ....definately a ev built/engineered right fm scratch would be superior, but this retrofitment is worthy of praise.....it's not easy to have such fittings with engineering and financial constraints....with time and experience there will be a fine product awaiting...nonethless kudos to hemank and team.,..

Get rid of the gearbox and put in a bigger battery. any EV irrespective of how well it is priced will not work in India unless there is a solid range of 400 KMs on a single charge.

To justify the 6-7 lakhs extra cost, you need to drive at least 80 kms every day.

was wrongly listed by the seller. minimum range (lower Variant) is of 150 kms.
