    Know this is kinda old but I have the Thumb 4 BO (Real German custom shop) and you guys are right about punching thru the mix. You don't really get the full effect till you play live with pretty loud band. I do a lot of medium to large rock and dance clubs. I might make a video comparing both neck through and bolt on 5 stringers, since so many people are curious about that comparison between those two basses. There is no video showcasing that. You have to constantly click on different videos but, it's not a fair comparison. It needs to be same setting, new strings and same player, same riffs.

    Stingray all day....I'm biased. I have the exact same bass. Of the 3, I'd go Fender then Warwick, but wouldn't be embarrassed to play any of them. Nice basses.
    My main bass is an Alembic Elan, and to me ,all 3 of these basses can keep up ,for what they do. The big difference is that I can get the sound if each with the Alembic, though not the other way around.

    • @Halfpastseven
      @Halfpastseven  6 лет назад

      Oh really?! Do you have the Olive Gold finish? Yeah they are all unique to themselves neither can sound like any of these three basses. Which is cool, I like variety. I’ve never played Alembic they seem to be a high quality bass. Hard to find too. Warwick’s are even hard to find now. Unless it’s the rock bass series which is eh for me.

    • @6lillium
      @6lillium 6 лет назад

      Half Past Seven My Stingray HH is "sapphire black" with a rosewood fretboard. Simply love it.
      Alembics can be hard to find( a little over 15,000 ever made in 45+ years) in a store, but if you are patient you can get one like mine online (an Elan used for around $2 -$3000). Not cheap, but cheaper than $8- $9000 new. The "Alembic Club" site is the best place to look. They have a real network posting regular updates.
      Every single instrument is handmade, and custom ordered. The electronics use filters to dial in tone ( think wah wah pedal) or you can switch to passive with balance and tone control. Wal basses use a system modeled after Alembic,

    • @6lillium
      @6lillium 6 лет назад

    The Musicman Stingray sounds awesome, punchy, focused and transparent. The Warwick sounded really scooped...maybe the strings needs changing

    • @Halfpastseven
      @Halfpastseven  5 лет назад

      The strings were all new on these basses. I think the Thumb when tuned to standard and played up on the neck has a more twangy sound to it. De-tuned in my opinion sounds better on the Thumb, better than the Stingray. The Stingray gets a bit clanky especially when tuned low. Stingray better = better for standard tuning Thumb = better drop C or B

    You seem to have gotten a lot more low end from the low E on the Stingray, maybe because it's a four string so you didn't have the low B to worry about and could therefore slap it harder. The Warwick, being my favorite aesthetically, has a very electronic "Seinfeld" synth bass sounding tone in comparison to the organic growl of the Stingray and the classic woody (yet less punchy) warmth of the jazz. I like them all though. I think it really depends on the tone of the artist or era you're trying to replicate or being complimentary to the tone of the instruments you're performing with.

      Thanks for watching! Glad you like the stingray! It sure is a nice bass! I think the Jazz is fine to play, the body is too big for me though. It also sounds like a million other bassist cause they use them.

    muy buen video solo pongo mi oido critico del porque en el jazz bass solo utilizas el mics del puente cuando para el Slap es por demas sabido q todos utilizamos ambos mics. En el musicam no te queda de otra lo mismo el thumb que posee sus dos mics sobre puente. creo que si hubieras usado ambos mics con el fender la diferencia sobre los otros dos seria notoria.

    Strange. The Stingray should have more treble than the Jazz Bass. Could it be that you use some EQ or there was a problem with the adoption to your desk? I also own Jazz Basses and Stingrays and this sounds quite unfamiliar to me.

    The treble on that stingray could be dialed down a bit imho. Juuuuust a bit.

    So the order was: Bass, bass, Thumb, bass, bass, Thumb, right? Nothing like the Thumb, IMHO...

    Too much compression on Thumb bass, seems to me - Warwick sounds strange and unnatural. I have all this basses also, and difference in sound quality is not so evidente like here. Character thing is another story...

    • @Halfpastseven

      They are all compressed with the same amount of gain reduction, with no clipping or distortion.

      Agree, way too much compression (on all basses), but nevertheless a good comparison of bass character. Good job.

      The compression on the Thumb is ludicrous. Great playing.

    hey Nick,, what effect are u using on the basses??

    • @Halfpastseven
      @Halfpastseven  7 лет назад

      No effects just an eq and compression. Just the basic tools to fill out the sound and help control the dynamics.

    Ok here goes. To me it sounds like the EB bass, mid n highs are set to 6,7,9 and sound is in front of me.
    The Fndr bass mid high is set to 8,7,8 but sound is around me.
    The Thmb’s bass mid n high are at 8,8,9 and sound is behind me. Sorry that’s the only way I can explain. 🤷🏽‍♂️

      Thanks for watching and since both pickups are towards the rear of the bass by the bridge it always has a more midrange tone to it. Unless the front pickup is selected by itself. They all have there thing though just a matter of taste

    Is it me, or does the kick has too much crossover compression?
