I saw Volbeat live after only hearing them weeks before. This was back in 2014! Amazing performance. Frontman Micheal Poulson crowd surfed out to give a kid a T-shirt. Really enjoyed their first few albums, hallelujah goat from the guitar gangsters album hits hard!

The studio version is great! Interestingly, Lola Montez was a real person worth researching. A fascinating read is her book, "The Arts Of Beauty", published in 1858. Step by step instructions for women to make themselves beautiful using scary make up techniques of that period. It also includes, "Hints to Gentlemen on the Art of Fascinating", which is parody (I hope). This book can be found online in PDF format for free.

@@gaelenlawson2307 I don't think she was murdered. Wikipedia indicates she died at age 39 from the effects of syphilis.

All of the songs on this album are wild west inspired fiction and real people along with some thematic songs like The Hangman's Body Count.

What a fun little song this was. Haven't heard a lot from Volbeat but what I've heard I've liked. Proper score for this song IMHO and I'm happy with your assessment and breakdown of this song, it all makes sense.

You nailed it on the head brother - it’s a feel good song. It just happens to be my favorite

I like the juxtaposition of the catchy, melodic singing and the relatively heavy music. It’s sort of a mix of my favorite rock band (the Beatles) and my favorite metal band (Metallica). Maybe a simplistic comparison, but that’s why it appeals to me. The combination of heavy and catchy is hard for me not to like.

My favourite song, it really creates good vibes. I caught Volbeat warming up for Guns N' Roses a few years ago, a big fan ever since.

My first Heretic live review to a concert I actually went to 😛
Volbeat is a fine band, but they became a lot more popish and mainstream on their later albums. Their first album is legit great though and the two next ones are really good as well.
I will say though, since this is a live review, Volbeat is a band I have both seen in a small revenue with mosh pits and people going crazy and in big stadium settings like this and they actually master both quite well, which you can't say of all bands.

Thanks, David! This definitely brightened my day since I've been sick lately. I'm a little surprised you hadn't heard this song; it is indeed one of their hits and had a good run on radio. That's actually one of the reasons I requested a live version. It is very close to the studio version, just with some different touches in some of the vocals and guitar lines.
I also really like the movement on stage, and that Michael uses all three mics during the song. I slightly and respectfully disagree about Kaspar (the bassist). I think he was moving around a decent amount, and he pointed to the crowd at one, well, point. Of course, he didn't do a lot comparatively, and that's probably what sticks out. And I might as well note it here: Jon, though I love what he does on the drums, isn't much of a showman either. It bums me out a little as a fan, and since I've been taking a harder look at these things.
Still, I've liked gaining that perspective. And now I've learned something about the key of D. 🙂

Volbeat is one of my favorite bands, i hope someday you can react to "Don't tread on me" the great and better cover I could listen of this song by Metallica.

I honestly don't get this take every time I see it. This could be said about a lot of bands; the stuff kinda has to have some degree of similarity to be identifiable. And in Volbeat's case, they've got around half a dozen styles drawn from their influences.
