    Thank you for doing a proper tutorial showing essentially every step including the snags. For someone wanting (having) to do this job, it will answer many questions and save a lot of time, not to mention screw ups. I for one would like to have had a choice as to whether I want to risk a lock up and a 2000 to 3000 dollar expense and the possible dangers of being stranded without any life critical functions like heat or AC and even the ability to operate my windows! I suggest Due Diligence here everyone.
    Mercedes' choice of a cheap 10 dollar junk toy motor\OEM on such a mission critical automotive function is just one of so many failures by this once iconic company. In particular, the 2011 era C300s can also expect to have a transfer case failure - due to bearing quality issues - that can cause an engine and transmission lockup (WHILE DRIVING!), a rear subframe failure - due to strut rot and collapse, sagging motor mounts and sagging suspension - preventing proper wheel alignments and catastrophic tire wear, among others. Good job Mercedes.

    I watched these videos and shake my head. Most of them on here do it this way. But there is one I found and I did it his way so I know it works. The guy show you how to do this and he only removed the bottom bolts and loosen the top two bolts to allow the steering wheel to be lowerred just enough to work with your hands. Took me literally 15 minutes to remove everything and about the same time to install it back to original form. THE KEY IS YOUR Steering wheel HAS TO BE UNLOCKED

    The worm gear motor is what goes bad. You can buy one for as cheap as $10. Replace the motor in the ESL module, you just removed and dont need to reprogram anything. Much easier.

    • @JOSEF7011
      @JOSEF7011 8 месяцев назад

      It is caused by turning the steering wheel after removing the key. For example, when getting out of the car, you hold onto the steering wheel, the latch locks the steering wheel, but the tensioned steering wheel does not allow the latch to be unlocked. There's even a counter that counts the wrong unlocks, and after a few failed unlocks the steering wheel lock locks up and has to be fitted and a new one programmed. It is possible that you have inadvertently caused the fault yourself :-)

    • @autopurlieu

      Yes, my small emulator just hang anywhere/ zip tie it or wherever you wanted to place it. For the reason , some esl doesn’t to come out if it’s in unlocked position . And it’s very concealable .
      With this particular car, srs light was on because it has a collision on right door.

    • @autopurlieu
      @autopurlieu  10 месяцев назад

      I might be bias because I make and program an esl emulator to every customer I’ve had contacted me about this problem. For the past years none of them came back nor went bad.
      We already know that the OEM ESL goes bad, so putting the same OEM ESL will go bad and it’s the matter of “when” it will go bad again. And the price of OEM is close to $2k or more
      I’ve seen some emulators that fail but those are the older emulators , that has wires dangling.

      @@richardjt5780 that means you have other problem than the esl. Battery don’t go flat normally, either your alternator is bad or battery or combination of both.
      And that’s depends in what kind of emulator are you using. Some emulator has personalization feature and that will happen to it.

    The part is $400 for my GLK350. But the dealership would not sell me one with the programming key. It had to be tied to a service order, $2000 USD repair. But I am going to try another dealership, if they will not sell me one I will just go emulator route.
    My ESL is starting to lock up randomly. I can get it to unlock by banging on the steering wheel. If its unlocked I can remove it easy enough without taking the column out.

      Let me know if you want me to program you an ESL emulator.
      Yes, that’s the average price on that repair. Even they give you just the ESL part,,you will need to program it still.
      The esl must be same program and sync in with the Eis and the key fob .
      Downside of getting the OEM ESL, it will again . It’s about when it’s gonna happen again . Getting stranded sucks

    Great video. I think the previous owner of my car has installed this emulator (because my steering wheel never locked) and it has just now gone out on me. Can I just purchase another emulator and swap it with the one under the dash? Or do I need to take everything apart like you did?

    • @autopurlieu

      Thank you. If it’s just dangling underneath , you can just unplug and replace another one. But still, that emulator still need to be programmed to the car eis

      @@Dnasty1 it needs a special programmer for that. Emulator + eis + key , needs to sync in together .
      Technically those 3 is all needed so the locksmith can program it. Each programmer is different, depends on a locksmith and their skill if they need the whole car or not.
