  • Here I am going to show you how to make an Americano or long black in a Delonghi Dedica EC685 espresso machine using the hot water pump and double shot espresso. I use the machine to provide hot water to the cup first then add the double espresso which forms a lovely crema on the top after infusing the coffee. A good tip is to warm the cup first with hot water

    Thanks for a great tutorial. 👍Just got this lovely machine for Christmas from my sister. Had no idea I could get hot water directly from it, not just steam.

    After scaling the Internet to find out if you can make an americano using just the machine (without having to additionally boil your kettle) this video has answered my question perfectly, thank you

    Is that noise during pouring the hot water normal?

    • @oldtimer43
      @oldtimer43  3 года назад +2

      Yes it is quite normal, it is the pump operating. Thanks for watching.

      I’m glad you asked! My machine was just delivered and I was a little alarmed by how loud the hot water was.

      @@hannahboehmer7386 Yes, it certainly chugs out doesn't it, it is quite normal though and nothing to worry about, I'm still very [leased with the machine after a few Months use, I have had to de-salinate it though twice but it does get used several time a day

    Really enjoyed this instruction. Thanks for showning, how to make an americano, which such a nice crema.
    Quick question: Did you, or anybody else, ever experience, that the machine, after pressing double shot, just floats a little bit of water and stops and when you press again the same happens and only after the third time it does the whole double shot process?

      Thanks for you kind reply. In answer to your question, I can't say I have ever had this happens, perhaps an email to the Company may get an answer for you?

    why not brewing longer (e.g. double time)? much easier and you get all out of the coffee!

      Depends on cofee beans. With double time you can end up with too bitter coffee, especially with dark roasts. I had this machine before for few years, and my perfect recipe to do an "americano" by pushing a "double" hot water with empty basket, this way preheating a group (which is very cold typically), and then brewing double shot of coffee into hot water I made before. This way you have better crema, and preheated group/filte holder for more even extraction. 12.5g-13g was optimal dose for this machine. And temperature setting at max.
