Frequently the cause of misting windows is due to water (condensation) collecting in the heater/AC box inside the dashboard. This box has drain hose(s) that normally will allow the water to exit, but frequently gets plugged with dust and debris trapping the water inside the dash forever.
Crawl under the car (or next time your car's in for an oil change) and look for a rubber tube hanging down near the gear change lever location. Run a wire coat hanger (do they make these any more?)--bent at the end so it doesn't puncture the tubing--and route out the stuffs in there. Watch out--dirty, nasty water will pour out when you get it un-stuck.

I only have a mobile phone so I used Dave's idea to elastic band a car I found to the phone via the air vent. Worked just as well. Thanks Dave!!

Living in Seattle - I learned to run the air conditioner with the heat on for a few minutes before I turned off the car. Reduced the amount of fog on the interior and really helped keep the interior glass frost-less when temperatures dropped.

Bonus tip: that cat litter will do you wonders if your car gets stuck in snow! What happens in deep snow is that your tire's quick rotation ends up melting and polishing the water and snow into ice. This makes the car unable to come out. So what do you do? You dump the cat litter on where you want your car to ride up as it will absorb the water and provide traction. Pretty cool, huh? 2:15 the roll of duct tape may work in Europe, but here in America our cups are much bigger, especially at the fast food drive-through. For that I would suggest the spare tire instead of a roll of tape.
That's why you yanks are so FAT cause you all over indulge and then blame society leading to suicide yada yada yada... it's sad that the government here have had to bring in regulations on food dietary control because ur crappy way of life was starting to infect ours. So use the duct tape as a guide to stay healthy... good luck 👍🏾

The cat crystals trick is neat. I need to keep my telescope optics dry in the tropics where I live so I will try that. No problem with the car windows here. I believe the crystals can be microwaved (just like silica gel bags) to get the moisture out and reuse them.
White rice does well in a sock for a warmer as well.
Then your microwave window will mist up :)

Be careful with reels of Duct tape because the adhesive sometimes exudes from the sides and it sticks to things such as a car's upholstery and can be difficult to remove.
Yes, placing a guard under the reel would be helpful.

Instead of using the rubber band for a phone holder, I use self adhesive velcro which works really well. If you live in a hot environment, make sure to get a heavy duty velcro so that the glue doesn't melt when your car is parked in the sun.
If you get pulled over and a cop finds the sock the cop gonna think you moving ounces of crystal meth 😂😂😂

The problem with the belt that collects the dirt and dust down between the roller and the housing over the years and thus slows him down when rolling up. It is better to disassemble the panel and directly clean the role and possibly give a few silicone oil splashes on the axes on both sides. The hack shown here is only of short benefit 😏

that tickled me. some great advice but the drink holder had me in stitches and when u said u can use the other sock... I peed myself. but your right I've used polish on seat belt but I attract the whole thing and wipe it all both sides with cloth and find thats even better. the second sock could go in the boot as those crystals remove damp from there and reduce moisture in most back light units. x

The idea to attach the phone to the air vent using a rubber band has done wonders for me. I had a real problem keeping my car attached to my phone 😅

Why do many dislikes? The hacks were original and fairly useful, I thought.
Especially the duct tape to hold a sock open. That would also be usually for a makeshift ice pack.
Id be suspicious of anyone driving around with a giant roll of duct tape on the passenger seat!
And with odor reducing chemicals under the same seat. Probably has gallons of bleach in the trunk.
