Her lutzes at this competition were at their absolute best. I know they talk about her freeskate dress here and in Albertville but this was my favorite Vera costume. Also, I’ve always appreciated that the final combination spin was right on the beat of the music.
She did have a good triple lutz! Back in the 90’s they seemed to really and truly take off on their outside edge, no switching to the inside and properly vaulting off the toe😉.
Good lord, this was nearly twenty years ago. *blinks* The problem I had with her is...she never really changed her choreography. All her routines looked the same. Still, very elegant and stylish for the time.
Nancy Kerrigan was an "elegant" package but very frigid and insipid. Surya Bonaly's Josephine Baker inspired performance was much more fascinating and deserving of first place. Second to Oksana Baiul's graceful Swan Lake.
@@vikingsong2068 I think what the person is saying is Nancy's skating is very classic and one tone. Although she presents the programs beautifully, she doesn't have the versatility like Surya or Oksana when it comes to giving variety in skating programs in how they perform it and how they deliver it into to the audience.
@@TheWayWithKhuwayne but ironically, Surya and Oksana (and Chen Lu and Yuka Sato) reprised their long programs from the previous season here in Lillehammer, while Nancy had two all-new programs that season. 😜

Nancy had the better technical skate in the SP but I think Oksana's artistic presentation was far more 'magical' in the SP in spite of the two-foot on her triple lutz combo. And Nancy wore such a beautiful dress here (she wore the most beautiful ever imo especially her LP dress). But I don't like her music here very much.
I think people are being kind of unfair to Nancy. Nancy is very athletic in build and style, no not so very "friendly" or emotive in style; just a very different personality from Oksana. Personally, I do prefer Oksana's grace and emotion within her skating, it touches the heart, but Nancy had clearly worked hard for her abilities. Apple's & Oranges. .
I have never understood why Tanya Harding and her co-horts thought Nancy Kerrigan was a big threat. Nancy was struggling during the '93 season. Nancy was only fifth at the '93 Worlds and had already lost one competition to Caryn Kadavy. Nancy's bad showing at the '93 Worlds was the reason the US could only send 2 women to the Olympics. Tanya had been skating well that season so it was likely she would have made the Olympic team regardless of Nancy's potential efforts at Nationals.
Tonya did not have a good 92/93 season. She didn't even make the top 3 at nationals; that's why she wasn't even at World's in '93. If it wasn't for Nancy's finish at '93 worlds, the U S. could have only sent one skater to the Olympics.

@@genednomyar3383 You're right, but she placed second in the long program and overall because of what I mentioned. I should have been more precise. Peace . . .
Oksana was not deducted by ALL the judges for two footing her combination. Nancy had clean jumps& a nice artistry. It should have been Kerrigan in 1st&Baiul in 4th after the technical program.
@@Kayla-pd1sk artistry is in the eye of the beholder, which makes it the more subjective mark. It’s also the tie breaking mark. However, technical skating should be rewarded appropriately and deducted accordingly. Oksana wasn’t deducted for her two footed jumps which happened in both the long and short programs. She’s not a clean skater. So while her artistry is preferable to old school skating style, her edges are sloppy. It’s lucky for her they removed the figure component back in 1990, or else she’d have never placed on the podium. If the competition had been judged fairly, Nancy should’ve scored much higher in the technical merit mark. Triple-triple combination, doing her lutz far later in the program (which now with the new scoring is given a bonus), no two-footed jumps and no rolling over to the inside edge on the triple lutz. Artistry, sure…Oksana is probably more pleasing to the eye, but on the night of the free skate there is no way in the world Oksana should’ve won that gold medal. She was not the superior skater (all around) on that night.
Nancy Kerrigan was a good skater. But not brilliant. Oksana Baiul clearly out performed her. A miracle that Nancy Kerrigan skated so well after the attack.
Too robotic and predictable. Her programs show NO diversity in artistry. Great jumps however. Nice body line. Great stroking. But SLOW. Not magical like Oskana's programs.
Yea Nancy really had outstanding technical skills in comparison. If you watch oksanas skating it really wasn't in a class of a world champion. Jr level edging and her foot even came off the ice during her bw crossovers. Wonderful line and energy I agree
Dont you agree Chen was robbed of a higher medal many times. 92 worlds- Yamaguchi clearly won, but chen deserved silver over Kerrigan. I might have even given Hubert the silver, and certainly over Nancy too, but atleast Chen should have finished over Kerrigan. 93 worlds- Both Bonaly and Chen deserved to beat Baiul, no question. I would have had Kiellmann over Baiul in the long too since she had the skate of her life and more technical than Baiul, although with her bad short she would have finsihed behind still anyway. I would have been fine with either Bonaly or Chen winning, I would have probably gone Bonaly gold, Chen silver, but both clearly beat Baiul. 94 Olympics- Kerrigan gold, Chen silver, Baiul bronze, no question. Sato should have even beaten Baiul in the long program, but because of her short program Baiul deserved the bronze. So Baiul probably deserved only 4th in the long program at both the 93 worlds and 94 Olympics where she won the long and golds. 96 worlds- Chen should have won over Kwan. Kwan was great too but Chen had higher jumps, more speed, and more advanced artistry at that point. Plus she was defending Champ, the benefit of doubt in a close call should be to a veteran and the reigning world champ over a little girl just coming on the scene. Some judges had young Slutskaya with a huge fall on her opening jump closer to Chen in the scores than Chen to Kwan which was insulting. I think being a top skater from China was a new thing to the judges back then so they were hard on her. Shen & Zhao were treated much better by the judges since China as a top skater(s) wasnt a new thing anymore.
