To The Planet's Surface...Again

- We ascend to the planet's "surface" again, this time with an Engineer and Rocky Mountain beer buff. It's at the end of a Liquid Morkite mission, and the bugs are out of control. But we all get to the top and walk around for a bit before things go wrong.
Video Game & Music from Coffee Stain Publishing and Ghost Ship Games (www.deeprockgalactic.com/) - Игры
For compressed granite you can get engineers platforms and shoot them into the wall and break them it creates more space then just mining. Rock and Stone
We'll use this tip, in conjunction with the roller coaster into space idea.
We have tried this on the subsequent attempts, and I guess the devs are watching or there's some trick to it, but no projectiles can be fired from a gun after a certain distance up anymore. Flares and bullets without travel distance work, but scout lights, platforms or anything you can see fly through the air no longer works
What a shame !
Rock and stone.
Krokus??
Here we see the Scout in its natural habitat, attacking from outside the map and playing an entire different game from the rest of the crew.
Truth. The rest of the team is scheming how to get to the drop pod, while I wait for them on the ramp.
The scout, doing its autistic thing
Once you complete the pump sequence, the glyphids keep coming in one continuous wave, even before you launch the rocket
i kinda hope we eventually get biomes that are on the surface. would be cool

@@4aw50fGoldwell actually glyphids probably don't stay on the surface much so there wouldn't be the danger part. Just dusk and dwarves
As long as it hasn't been patched the hole above the abandoned drop pod in salvage mission does not generate a ceiling. So you could just make a stair with enough platforms and get to the """surface""".
I think we'll try this in the next video. I really don't want to spend another 100 minutes chipping through compressed granite
@@neotsn yeah that would be interesting. Take an engineer with max platforms (32), let him gobble up all the resupplies and build a stairway to heaven. Perhaps something similar yet a tad more tedious would be to platform up as far as possible in a refinery mission, dig a small tunnel in a straight line and let the pipeline do the rest. When building pipelines the pipe needs a straight line to be valid but carves a large tunnel upon being build. Dig as far as possible in one direction, place a pipe, let it carve out the compressed granite and repeat. With pipes you could perhaps get infinetly high? Worth a try.
@@erwin101 already did the second half of that in my latest "planet surface" video 😉
@@neotsn exactly like that! Perhaps using the pipes to build upward to infinity is more feasible than using platforms... buuuut as a Special powder Veteran I am certain that there is pretty much nothing out there in the void of the space above Hoxxes.
@@neotsn maybe you could try Engineer's shotgun jump overclock to reach the hole and then a fast shooting plataform gun. Just alternate between shotgun jump and platforms inside the pod's hole.
It would be kind of fun if they added a surface, made it a bit easier to get to, but impossible to survive on, just constant young juggernauts, and gold exploders
Agreed. That would be a neat unexpected challenge...and add in Low Oxygen.
but you're also extremely floaty and there's winds that batter you every direction

If we had shallow rock galactic (surface map), I like to imagine we'd be running away from sunlight, fighting off radiation and trying not to get blown off by solar winds.
I really wanted to see the mission stats at the end....
Same bro
Didnt know hoxxes was made of oneway glass
Just so you know, when doing morkite drilling, once the platform reaches 100% full, waves of enemies will continuously spawn in like it would after the drop pod has arrived. If you want to avoid having to constantly deal with enemies swarming you, do literally any other game mode or just don't start the drilling process.
Yeah, we learned this lesson. On the next trip, we pulled the pipes to the surface before doing any drilling....still editing that video (42GB to cut way down).
@@neotsn not sure if this works but i've been told that during the leaks no extra waves occur, so that's worth testing
@@ombricshalazar3869 interesting. I'll have to test that out
With scouts over clock for his double barrel, you could probably use that to keep you in the air while the grapple recharges
I know a much better way to get / be on the surface. Go to the drill mission in desert map and go up before the heart stone room (usally). In drill missions there is an area at the top where there isn't any granite, so in deserts the surface will be made out of sand in that area making it very easy to expand the area where you stand.
There even easier method, special powder boomstick and scout's hook and mission with low gravity. After start of the mission just hook yourself into ship's tunnel and right after boost with a shotgun. Profit
Thanks, I'll have to try this.
Well the one way thay only takes 30 seconds is go into salvage and special powder boomstick yourself into space.
@@nyakssj1370 i just shoot myself out of the map with boomstick , after that i climbe to 1500 m or more and then drop down and hope to have a nice graple.
i find it interesting that the ceiling doesnt have collision. from what ive seen in other games, oob one way textures do tend to have collision. this really shows just how well optimized drg is.
I do that all the time
Sometimes the seed is messed up and regular rock spawns instead of compressed granite allowing me to construct entire bases up there
Yeah it's hit and miss for whether projectiles will fire on a given mission type. Drill dozer is common rock all the way up in the middle of the map. We outlined it in the Surface 4 video.
Only half way through but already liked and subbed. This is awesome lol.
Rock and stone!
This place is like the inverse of the actual caves, when you mine instead of destroying the terrain, you create it
you shouldve mnade a roller coaster to the world height, that launches you off at the end.
The next time we get a Rocky Mountain + Liquid Morkite mission, we'll try this. Getting to the top without the resupply pods is not possible because of the compressed granite regeneration, so we'll just have to put a few in a circle to make room for the pipes.
Feels like this is what the teams driller does every match
Thanks to jet boots and 2 engineers, we managed to do it in about 3 minutes on some random salvage mission
Yes, salvage mission helps you out there. I have a much shorter Scout surface ascension in a Driller mission map that I haven't put up yet. Was wanting to make a set of "fast-surface" videos for each of the classes. The difficulty is getting the whole squad to the top.
You could have also tried using ziplines and platforms.
Have the engie place a platform at the sides of the tunnel, have the gunner stand on it and make the steapest incline possible, then place a platform just under the end of the zipline.
We didn't have a gunner available at the time (and our gunner tends to dislike wasting time on such shenanigans, lol). But yes, if we go to the "surface" again we'll bring a gunner, and make better use of engineer platforms at the top for room to stand.
@@neotsn
That's a shame.
As a Gunner myself (though I like all classes), I love helping with silly stuff, simple because it creates more fun scenarios to shoot bugs in.
Like making roller-coasters during Refinery missions so I can drive-by shoot Glyphids.
Something I’ve done to get up there before is to use the mule so what I do is go scout and grapple as far as I can than I call the mule below me to step on
Yup, this is what I did in the 4th video to the surface
you can ride the rocket up at the end of the extraction sequence, and this gets you really close to the top. great for engineers, scouts and drillers can also dig in if they're good at it.
Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, and that's why I mess around on company time.
and then all the dwarves died of axyphiciation, the end.
I really have the idea few days ago, now... Im seeing this, and i absolutely impressed! Good vid and good "guide" good job🎉
Thanks! Go try it! New video coming out 5/19 with an easier trip.
5:51
Now THAT was some quick thinking.
I absolutely would not have thought of grappling away from it before it explodes.
Thanks. I've gotten pretty quick with that lately. And now I run with Special Powder on shotgun in case my grapple is on cooldown.
Same as any other gun your grapple can wotk through walls. So just yolo dropping from outside the map and than hooking to any visible terrain will make you clip back to the map like nothing even happened.
Yeah, I haven't figured out the logic yet entirely, but it seems if you end up a certain distance from *any* terrain, you get automatically teleported back to a safe spot on the map. But if you remain within that distance, you can complete your fall. It's how we exited the 3rd video with a Rollercoaster that shot us off the map.
Step 1: equip special powder on scout
step 2: enter low gravity mission
step 3: grapple up the tunnel left by the drop pod
step 4: powerhit a step to stand on into the wall - this step is easier when the terrain is soft
step 5: call a resupply pod
step 6: shoot special powder until you reach the surface
Done. Takes about 3 minutes from step 2.
optional step 7: if you keep shooting until you run out of special powder you will leave the playable map at a height of 10 kilometers. At this point you have no sound, no icons, no weapons, only chat and a black screen full of void. You cant get down, you cant die, you cant move.
I wondered what the top of the map height was. I found the bottom in an upcoming video: Surface 6
the easiest way to get up is to actually ride on top of hacksy after you've hacked.
I haven't tried Hacksy yet. All the other machines disappear before reaching the edge of the map.
I have since tried Hacksy, and it does go through the ceiling before disappearing, but since I hadn't chipped away the top of the hole, I just fell down.
@@neotsn use engineer, place platform, chip away the top. lol
This is why the game is so fun
Damn wouldn't it be great for drg to make some sort of "surface" to the planet like we have the depth meter in the drop pod for a reason, make it so the o2 and gravity gets lover the higher you get etc, but i guess that's just me daydreaming i have no idea how difficult it would be to implement
I suppose it wouldn’t be too hard to add just an unbreakable surface texture with collision, and add a “journey to the surface of Hoxxess” achievement
I wanted to see the stats! the amount of XP at the end must have been crazy!
Scout: "Build a platform here" *points with laser pointer*
Engineer: "WHERE?!"
Truth.
You could try this modded with the “Underhill Overdose” mutator. It makes you smaller. It’s really fun.
Yeah but you in no way told at all what mod it comes from.
@@aarepelaa1142 just search it up
Salvage operations drop pod shaft goes all the way to space, with just special poweder boomstick you can go past it infinetly. I also discovered that once you're up there you can get everyone there with the mule, it's like a clunky elevator. Also you can use the mule to make a spot up there to stand on and slowly mine something to stand on up there by calling it. (Oh on the mule you should be able to use it to climb up without special powder boomstick, just a whole lot slower grappling up and calling it although just get low grav modifier instead lmao.)
(Well after testing i got to like+3000 meters from like -600 or something, btw if you fall into the void you just immediately despawn it's kinda funny, you don't even die like the hud entirely dissapears and shit.)
yes, it's been hit and miss sometimes with the salvage operations as to whether the hole is opened. I've only seen it once, in the handful of times I've tried checking. But that mission type will be a factor in a future effort.
Would be great uf they handled it like Subnautica. Add the surface, like you're able to actually get there and it exists as its own biome of sorts, but it's so difficult to survive on that you will die in two minutes.
You can get to the Nothing Tunnels, it will just load if you get up, you can explore it but the more you explore, more the connetion with Mission Control will start to fail. You will hear some cracks behind you, coming closer, and closer, and closer... Until, you find an giant place in the tunnels, it have some type of weird eggs and... Dead insects... Its not just an room... Is an nest... And the creature will spawn, you can't really see it, but he is kinda humanoidy... He grabs you and start to remove your skin, slowly until you fall...
Of course you can't kill it, but you can scare it, and take the eggs from the nest and take to the M.O.L.E, but the creature will start to spawn more and more until it gets you or you leave the tunnels.
as far as i know power attacks on the pick one-shot even compressed granite, so using berserk perk could speed this up, as well as slayer stout. good video!
Hmm. I now have a new objective in the game.
vampire and berserker seems like a good idea for health regeneration and amo economy.
I got onto the surface by accidentally standing on a returning hacking pod, I'm not sure if it goes as high as what you've done here tho.
It disappears before it leaves the top of the map
That's awesome. Well done.
Do you happen to remember the trick a couple years ago where you would buy that beer that makes you really small , then press the anti gravity button , and then squeeze out of the space rig through a small hole in between the wall and the large window ? :D
I thought I was so cool when I would show other people how to do it lolololol. Still have screenshots of me and my friend exploring outer space :)
I never learned how to do that one before it was patched. But I did make a video about doing it just before Season 4 dropped (and there are still other ways out of the space station, since they tried to patch this one): ruclips.net/video/rusi6Jzp7Tc/видео.html
To boldly go where no Dwarf has gone before
I mean not sure what you guys where expecting
We all shoulda known it was just a large box of rock and stone!!
I mean, winkydo and I had been up there before in a previous video (where the HDR and audio was all messed up), but the team hadn't. So we brought Rizen along with us for platforms.
tbh ive never thought about the surface they could do so much cool shit with that tbh like a special morkite mission but in the surface of the planet or somethin
You can go on the surface? Neat to know
ah yes, I really recommend doing this on low gravity and having special power, you'll become a rocket and be able to see the stars
Getting all the right criteria randomly is part of the challenge. I'm still waiting on the right mission in the right biome (and hopefully with the right beer) for another video we want to do.
theres a mod called karls mod or something for tasks like this i would suggest it as it gives any 4 guns, so each player can have drills, platform gun and grappling hook if so desired, might make things a bit easier, but nice work.
Thanks for the heads up. Been doing these all vanilla until the devs stop us...and then we'll have to turn to mods.
I tried this with a friend once and we discovered a bug where each time i disconnected and reconnected, all of the bedrock in a sphere around me tuened into sandatone which made it super easy to reach the top
Yes, that has happened on a couple later runs, but it comes with the side effect of bouncing around and trouble syncing to the terrain in some cases.
I did this once but instead I rode one of the animals that can fly and I flew them through the drop ship whole to the surface, it took about 5 minutes or something if I remember correctly.
We were going to try this last night but didn't attempt until after the pump jack had finished, and then it was swarms of bugs. It's on the list to do.
It would be nice for you to use Scout with the Boomstick and that jump overclock (Special Powder). Upon reaching the surface, I'd like to know how far you could go.
I'll give it a shot soon, thanks for the idea
Yo, that should be official kind of mission
That would be fun. Add in only the large bug types, everywhere...and then you'll end up wanting to stay underground where it's "safe"
If I were the devs I would just slap a damaging effect above a certain height in the map along with a line about solar radiation or something. Not fun, but preserves the illusion.
I mean, they did their best (in some missions, as it turns out...not all) to discourage getting outside of the map. But I'm glad it exists like it does. It makes for something fun to do while we wait for the new content, and doesn't break the game all that much.
i think a good special powder boomstick with jetboots lets you just mine a tunnel for yourself plus rocky mountain would make this quite easy
Airbursts shells would be good for this if you fall or just to get a look up there cause shooting twice makes you go up like 100 meters
that is one deep ass cave
management? this is mission control. i don't know how they've done it, but the dwarves have broken containment! they're headed straight for the surface!
In the latest video, we go well past sea level, and down to the core, on Cave Angels. ruclips.net/video/H5g2SKMG4Ug/видео.html
Engi could have blocked the bugs in the morkite well thingy hole and the ressuply holes to block off bugs (only problem is opressors bulks and bugs can spawn on your side if you get too far up)
I went to the surface by riding the morkite rocket back up during a deep dive and got disconnected 😂
I haven't made it out of the map in any rocket before, nor been disconnected. But I have simply vanished from the game, in the next Surface video I'm editing.
you can dig through anything with the liquid morkite pipelines
Yeah, we used that in a later video later to build a rollercoaster to the top.
I remember doing something like that with my friends. :3
I wouldn't matter where you jump down if you had iron will because you could just rez your teammates and then get yourself rezed
For the next video, go even higher. Get so high, you reach orbit. And then find a space station to chill at and drink beer with your-
Oh wait 😅
I wish. We must have gotten lucky in this map, because all the subsequent liquid morkite maps won't let us fire platforms, lights, or any projectile with travel distance after a certain point above and below the main playing area.
Management loses more dwarfs that way than any other workplace accident...
You can do this or just constantly use the shot gun knock back
This are true dwarfs ROCK AND STONE
Sometimes the drop pod hole won’t have a ceiling just have a hole into the void
Yup, if you're close enough to the top of the map.
Did our graybeards leave their job? It’s more likely than you think

Rock and Stone! Still one question: can you bring down whole map by collapsing it? Or there are no sideway limits?
It's one of those questions that no sane man would answer(you can try by using mods tho)
There is a sideways limit. We've hit Bedrock on the side, and then Compressed Granite, but there is no way to get through on the sides since every hit generates more Compressed Granite.
@@neotsn Thanks!

Nah, the next video was building a liquid morkite pipeline rollercoaster to the surface to fling us off.
Great video! What will happen if you spawn supply drop on top of the surface tho?
We do that in the 4th Surface video "Desert Driller"...check it out.
Must of been a pain
I've been to the top, it's pretty easy as scout with the rocket boots perk/skill.
I'm just a casual so I never tried going to the top with the whole squad.

This is very 🗿 and 🗿
I wish there was surface maps pf hoxxes
i tried to dig down, after drilling 150 m i reached the bedrock, at 200m i reached compressed granite, i dig down all the way down to 310 m but i still did not reach the end of the map
Nice. Maybe I just didn't go far enough.
I feel like a shotgun with blowback and a grappe with best charge time would be infinitely faster for 400m distance
this is how i do it, mainly you just have to get special powder and go up a resups hole then do a nother resup and go up that then you enter the void sky and you can die in it if you have low oxydgen
Were you trying to make a platform across the surface until you're above the drop pod's tunnel, and then tunnel down to connect to the "top" of the tunnel?
I was trying to get close enough to it to jump through it. Unfortunately, I picked the wrong drop pod hole to go after, and ended up in the one for arrival instead of the one for departure. Luckily it wasn't a Morkite Mining Mission with drop pod holes on opposite ends of the map.
You can get there easily with low gravity and with the scout
You guys should have called the drop to see it drop and seeing the fuel reservoir go up. All that from outside.
We call a supply pod and drop pod in the Dessert Driller video from outside the map to see just that
Does scout grapple + hover overclock not make infinite height?
It probably does, if you can time everything just right, but at some point the grapple becomes useless. There is a level where projectiles and bullets don't fire from the gun, and I haven't tried solely using them to climb yet.
I’ve actually broken through the top of the map solo using pipes.
We did as well in the 3rd "surface" video. It took much longer with the finicky pipe placement criteria.

i did this onece but in reverse and solo, i threw on a mission with friends and dug stright down untill i fell out of the world and died lol
Interesting. We haven't found the bottom yet and presumed that it would continue to regenerate the rocks below. However, we have not experienced death falling out of the map before...it always teleports us to the nearest ground to one's current position after a determinate time outside the map and with no ground within a given radius from the character.
@@neotsn hmm i could be remembering wrong, i definetely fell out of the map but i might have teleported back.
well, it means even -11km deep dive will have this vertical space?
I think so. I should try that next...it's much harder since that's a haz 3.5 and this was only a long-overstayed haz 1 chaos at the end.
Now do it on hazard 5

If you had low gravity and special powder, what would happen if you launch yourself off of the surface of hoxxes?
it's on the list to try. But the reality is you'd either launch yourself off, the same as jumping and risk a respawn in the map, or death from impact if it let you land.
