Have you ever had a bike crash or cracked Brompton fork? please share here. Oh, if you really are going to get some tubes and made your own protective device. Please consider the installations issue with the crown race and the headset as well.
I have seen that an extra outside tube is to be bought, to protect the Brompton fork from being damaged. But Brompton has a list of tightening values for most parts. But as a Craftsman you need some sense of "feeling" for how much pressure to be applied. When changing a wheel on my car I don't apply much pressure on my wheel-bolts, and I have given them a little "copper grease", to be able to give them the exact amount of pressure from my special tool for the purpose, and it isn't much (I have never lost a wheel and I re-tighten them if they have been unscrewed at my local shop with some - air-tools for maintenance).
Thanks for watching. I am not sure if I have extensive knowledge on the Brompton, but surely a lot had happened right next to me before. I will try my best to keep up with the world. Have a good one mate.
LOL, thanks for the detailed information on how NOT to damage your Forks! (your explantion of the effect that over-tigheting the main Stem has on the Forks makes sense too).
I bought a Titanium Brompton when they first came out. After several years the titanium seatpost fractured, depositing me unexpectedly on the ground. The break happened low down, close to the clamp on the main frame. Brompton sent me a steel replacement, free of charge. They said that they were not aware of a problem with Ti posts. I find that unlikely. I have had 9 Bromptons, with never a problem with any type of steel post.
Thanks for spending time watching the video. I believe Brompton had issue with a their bikes for very short period of time. There must have been some reasons why they had stop doing that. If the bikes were to handle with care, there shouldn't be any problem with them at all. All my Bromptons run rather well too.
I had a few crashes when I first started riding a mountain bike, most at low speed like your video. Thankfully I haven't had any issues with my Bromptons though. Glad you're not too injured, hopefully the garmin can just get a new screen.
Thanks for spending the precious time here. MTBing isn't really my thing or at least not yet, but I sure am looking forward to more riding on the dirt and see more of the outback.
Have attended to a few seemingly benign MTB crashes and didn’t like what I saw. Was hoping to see you ride the gravel with the Brommie 😉. I have accepted the fact that it’s not pleasurable to do so. Love the tech and parts videos. Keep it coming bro.
"Hugging the tree" is the term that my brother use when he flies off from his bike. I guess he is taking most things seriously. I think the trail that I rode the other day is actually doable maybe on marathon plus tyres. Though I am on the Kojak most all time, if not all. After all there were kids on the BMX, and ladies on the dutch bike as well. Anyway, thanks for spending time on my video(s).
Doh! Glad you’re not seriously damaged, and the Garmin - still usable, and maybe Garmin can do a screen replacement..? On balance, though damage to my Brompton would be unthinkable (🙀) anything can be replaced... but there’s only one you, so I’d have to say I’d rather see bike damage than person damage! You take care, and no, I wasn’t bored! 👍😁
Its good to have you here again. We are always learning something new when are actually doing something. I see it if you pickup something new at a crash, it is then consider worthwhile. hmmmmmm, not sure if I am making any sense here?! lol.
I'm in China, there are lots of Ti company have their ti fork and u know some of them the quality is not that good, just cracked as that folk you been purchased on ebay, so some of the dealer now have a solution by using a ti tube ti wrap around the cracked part, which is only cost 8 us$, I think you can try
the only brompton official store and dealer (in Romania) managed to crack my titanium fork when servicing the bike some years ago. then they said i did it and if i want to buy a new one. at first i thought is possible to crack in general use. after some research i mailed to brompton uk and they said it was done by overtightening. after arguing with the dealer's serviceman (he was saying i had overtighten it or another service) they offered to pay just half. after complaining again by email, brompton uk offered to pay the rest of the money. horrible experience. should i say that, in the end they even put me to pay the reinstall of the new fork ? and i had to help the serviceman because he couldnt do it alone ? i just gave them the money only to save my bike from the horror and leave as soon as i can
Hey Ken. Thanks for watching the video and leaving with a comment. If your Brompton is already on a functional mode and done up by the group of fine people at Brompton. I don’t see why you had to do anything to it. Like I said, the newer Brompton using the larger wedge is safer now. Further, I don’t even see the sleeve that they are selling would work. They are just way too thin. Have a blasting day ahead.
I need help. I really don’t like the look and feel of the plastic shifters on my M6L Brompton. Can the original shifters be replaced with aftermarket aluminum or other metallic shifters? Is it a simple matter of swapping out the parts or is there some other complication involving the rear shifting system or cables? Would DT bSwiss shifters work hi or is there a better option you can recommend?
Very good suggestion. I have actually done up part of the very bias and unscientific review. Lol. It just that it does take a long time to ride all the tyres out there. The tan inside really a thing for me, it doesn’t make the ride run any faster, but plenty of people like to look of it. I guess that pays the bill.
Peter.how about make a video about a rusted old brompton.what is better to do? Sandpaper and repaint? Or change the part? In my case its my rear triangle. Hi from singapore btw! Cheers!!
@@Petrellionwheels so i got 1 raw lacquer with some rusted under the 1 end of mud guard. And some on side of triangle. I actually would. However, I don’t think my go to tyre Kojak would be able to do it. I will swap them out to maybe the marathon then I will have a go at it.
haha, thank you for watching..... I don't know about you, but it did burn me a lot of time when I was making this video..... my editing skills sucks.... lets hope it will only get better.
Thumbs down for the "oh no, oh no, oh no no no" soundtrack at the crash, it's heavily used in every ticktock video and I want to blast my head out every-time I hear it since it gets on my brain for a week afterwards.

Interesting exploration inside a Brompton. Also, that the ‘wonder metal’ (titanium) has a downside apart from cost. Thank you.
Titanium is a wondering materials to be used on bicycle. We just have to use it well, use it right and maintain it correctly.

What Nm should i tighten titanium stem with titanium fork?
Do you think I should install the sleeve as a precautionary measure on my new Ti Brompton ? 😀

we need that fall video in 4k slow motion!!
DASHHHHH !!
Come and watch me crash next time. I am training myself up to be a stunt man.
Interesting video. What do you think about aluminium forks? are they prone to cracking like the titanium ones?
Are there any aluminum fork for Brompton around? Can you point me to it?
@@Petrellionwheels Now that you mention it, there doesn't seem to be any for Brompton bikes. Only for road bikes and MTB apparently.

Thanks. I try my best to do that. Thanks for watching the video anyway.
15Nm is stronk. 30Nm is like torquing engine bolts on my motorbike.
I agreed with you. Most of the time I used far less than that and still get the work done, but then that is like coming from the Brompton menu.
Damn, after the vid, it would be harder to buy carbon forks 😮
Another informative video. You’re wrong by the way... not the least bit boring, sorry.

brompton cracked forks second hand market ? what ? very bad advertisement for an expensive bike.
