I don't think that grin when he says "TARDIS" was acting. I'd bet Capaldi was really genuinely loving that he got to finally introduce a companion to the TARDIS.
"You're safe in here. You're safe in here and you always will be." ...God, I love that line. It just feels so wholesome and protective. I'm gonna frame that quote and put it on my wall near the door.
You know, after 2,5 seasons and 4 years without new companions it's weird to see someone surprised by TARDIS again. Like, weird in a good way, it happened a million times before but I weirdly missed it.
IcecreamDF - From what I've read on other sites Bill is going to be a one season companion so that the new showrunner, Chibnall, can start with both a new Doctor and companion just as Moffat did.
I can understand that from a creative point of view, but as a fan since the Classic Who days, having a companion bridge a Regeneration has helped bring its own kind of stability to the series, it gives us someone to share our rediscovery of the Doctor with.
I believe Capaldi was cast almost just to deliver "Time and Relative Dimension in Space....Tardis for short". That music, his delivery, that smile. I mean....it was pretty legendary IMO. I felt that he really grew into the roll over his 3 seasons, each exponentially better than the next.
This is easily my favorite TARDIS Interior reveal in all of modern Doctor Who. Along with the fact that it’s the first time that Twelve gets to enjoy revealing the TARDIS to a new companion, it’s just SO WELL DIRECTED. The way the camera pulls back from Bill into the dark interior of the TARDIS, with only the entry-way still lit, before the lights turn on to reveal the console room as the camera finally stops. Then as Bill turns and discovers the interior we get a new arrangement of Murray Gold’s “Madman with a Box” theme. No words, no comments about how it’s “bigger on the inside,” just close ups of Bill looking around in amazement. And that shot of Capaldi standing by the TARDIS console with the steam coming up from the floor beneath him? Pure magic. The only thing that could’ve made it even better would’ve been if it’d been an entirely new TARDIS Interior, but even with a familiar TARDIS console room it’s still just as magical and mesmerizing. While getting to enjoy Bill’s reaction alongside Twelve, we’re reminded once again of the magic and wonder of stepping into the TARDIS for the very first time. Kudos to director Lawrence Gough for really bringing that to this scene. Watching this scene never gets old.
He's so proud and that smile. Series 8 overall was solid with a few damn good episodes like Deep Breath, Mummy on the Orient Express and Flatline. Series 9 was better with several really good episodes and 1 classic episode in Heaven Sent and it looks like Series 9 might be the best one yet for Capaldi's Doctor and I hope it is because he deserves it.
Tenth Doctor - Emotionally devastated over the loss of Rose; treats Martha horribly (sometimes) Twelfth Doctor - Despite losing his memory, still upset over Clara's death; welcomes Bill willingly.
I think moreso over River. It's been close to a century (20 odd years with River, at least 70 at the university?, plus however many more years inbetween) since Clara 'died'.
Rose just felt like a betrayer. She makes out with the Doctors twin right in front of him even if he never said I love you because it didn't need saying. She thinks they're both the same but they aren't at all, as her new boyfriend was willing to commit genocide 😐
Well being quippy is the first thing that comes to mind. He just seems more jovial which is nice to see. Not that he should lose the edge that he has perfected but still.
He's also more protective sounding as well. Yes he was protective with Clara but that never really carried over to other characters. Let's hope that changes.
Enough times that he shouldn't be saying that, for sure. Seriously, more times then not, the Tardis doesn't even take him where he wants to go. It takes him where he needs to be, not where he wants to be. How can you be safe in a ship that won't even obey its own pilot's orders?
This is certainly one of the most wonderful reveals. By this point, the Doctor hasn’t been travelling for years. First he stayed with River on Darillium, then onwards to taking care of Missy for years in England; by that point, he was a settled man. You can see that happy enthusiasm to finally show off again, to play and have fun with a new friend, more exuberant in that moment than he was even as Eleven. A great little scene for an excellent pair.
Tbf as a kid, mentally, that was my safe zone. Still is. If i am scared or stressed or angry, i imagine myself figuring it out in the tardis. I love this line cause for me it's very true:)
Kudos on lighting the Tardis progressively rather than all at once. The lights coming on a few at a time, quietly, made that an absolutely gorgeous shot.
This really almost edges out the Tardis reveal in The Snowman , both are the best Tardis reveals of NuWho Classic series reveals, don’t know I have to watch more of it but in the 1963 Episode 2 (after an unearthly child) of Season One, Ian’s Reaction to what a TARDIS does is amazing as it set up the whole show for the next 59 years “ A telephone box standing in a junkyard can move anywhere in time and space”
The scene where Peter comes out in his velvet jacket with the "mad man with a blue box" theme music explaining what the TARDIS is is so freaking epic. He looks like some brilliant mad scientist. EPIC.
I love that sly look the Doctor gives when Bill gives her little sassy "Er, they're made of wood??????" remark, and he's just like "Oh, she's gonna be fun."
Love the rendition of The Sad Man With A Box at 0:42 . How he makes a Sad theme more majestic and comforting. Likely Moffat calling back b/c it's his last season as lead writer/director
this music makes my eyes watery i don't know why Edit: oh i remember now it was the same music when matt took off his bowtie and regenerated and now i'm even more sad.
Thank you, so much, for using that motif of Madman with a Box. Hearing these older themes and music being used again in new ways(and not being forgotten) is always a pleasure.
It started to get woke by ep 6 and ruined her whole caracnter and started the decline of the show into what we got with Jodie , RIP DR WHO 1963 -2017 and yes I did like Bill Potts , it’s the writers who are to blame
This reaction was so unique and brought something new to Doctor Who. Bills reactions to her travels in the Tardis were very refreshing and not only added comedy and humour but also made her feel real. I talk about this more in one of my most recent videos.
This moment is peak Doctor Who, in my opinion. This is the perfect doctor & tardis, with a wonderful companion to ground it all. I truly wish we had more time with them, but I'm thankful we got here in the end.
This has to be my favourite reaction to the tardis of all time. Everything is perfect. The build up, the music, Pearls genuineness, Peters flair and saunter. It’s encapsulates everything that Doctor Who is.
ok the scene itself was freakin epic yeah, but can we take a moment to appreciate how beautiful both the shots and the lighting were!? I am so excited for this season!
JoyStar Moffat even stated in one of the newest interviews that this episode is almost like the beginning, anybody could start doctor who at this episode and they would be fine! So probably!
Imagine Doctor speaking to Tardis telepathically before Bill turns around... "Okay, okay. Sweety. Here comes the moment. We gotta do this right... she's turning! She's turning! The lights...! Turn them on now!!"
12th Doctor: "Nothing gets through these doors." Series 12: An extradimensional being, a god, a Judoon, and a friggin' delivery robot get through those doors.
I don't think that grin when he says "TARDIS" was acting. I'd bet Capaldi was really genuinely loving that he got to finally introduce a companion to the TARDIS.
that was definitely genuine!
Especially after getting to mock companions' first reactions when River introduces him to his own TARDIS in _Many Husbands of River Song_... xD
Albus Nix, it's "The Husbands of River Song", not "Many Husbands...".
FatalDownpour you are so right. That grin definitely is genuine
BRFCMontages Actually, rockinrodney5000 is correct. I just misremembered the name of the episode.
"You're safe in here and you always will be."
Debatable at times.

What a beautifully shot scene and instantly shows the innocence of Bill's character! And that intro for the Tardis! Absolutely Fantastic!

"I know you're not really a sci-fi person"

Daniel Haire if he actually does say that, sir, you win everything.
Emø Nerd Cheerleader its not science *fiction* to him
He doesn't :(
My god, Capaldi seems to relish the opportunity to show his first new companion into the TARDIS. That smile when he says "TARDIS, for short."
I think this may be my favorite TARDIS intro for that exact reason.
I especially like the psychotic.slightly Sinister sibilant hiss when he emphasizes the "s" in TARDIS,like a snake coiled to strike.
Blair Brown oh yes. The best part for sure!
he's a massive fan boy! thats what you need to be a doctor
"You're safe in here. You're safe in here and you always will be."
...God, I love that line. It just feels so wholesome and protective. I'm gonna frame that quote and put it on my wall near the door.
It’s a beautiful line, I love when the doctor always says when the companions are worried
Except it's not really true.
Doctor: "You're safe in here and you always will be!"
Bill: *trips on stairs and breaks her neck*
Doctor: "...Right."

It is much better than lacking, false and artificial reaction Danny Pink.
I was so happy when that car did the Lord’s work and killed him!
Like, awful. Horse Faced Biww was awful. Every episode she declared she was homosexual, and every time someone cheered her.
@@fjccommish she said it like three times lol. Just say you're a bigot and go
@@Milk88488 It was every episode.
His little smile after Bill says, “it’s got windows!” is so, so precious. He’s SO excited to show her the TARDIS!
this feels like a really natural reaction and i'm so excited for this to air tomorrow.
+Stewart Seyfried Apparently Bill is gay, but I don't think that will stop the shippers. XD
JoyStar Well, if thirteen is a woman, it certainly won't.

If there is no bigger on the inside/smaller on the outside line its not a TARDIS intro.
And to top it off with ''What happened with the doors though, did you run out of money''. Love it
I think that Peter Capaldi has always wanted to introduce a companion to the TARDIS.
Seamichu Definitely! His 6 year old doctor who fan club member inside is screaming with joy! I mean, just look at that smile!
***** I know right I'm so excited for this season. Gonna miss him though

I think moreso over River. It's been close to a century (20 odd years with River, at least 70 at the university?, plus however many more years inbetween) since Clara 'died'.
He's sad because he lost both in such a 'short' time span. The stories are one after the other. He actually went to teach for years to recover.
I've always hated that, the Doctor has lost many companions and more important than Rose.
Rose just felt like a betrayer. She makes out with the Doctors twin right in front of him even if he never said I love you because it didn't need saying. She thinks they're both the same but they aren't at all, as her new boyfriend was willing to commit genocide 😐
MasterJo Cohen Rose was the Doctor's true love, the one that got away. The Ponds were his family. So I think it's wrong to compare them to each other.
Ok that was pretty awesome. Looks like Capaldi is testing the boundaries of his Doctor.
Well being quippy is the first thing that comes to mind. He just seems more jovial which is nice to see. Not that he should lose the edge that he has perfected but still.
He's also more protective sounding as well. Yes he was protective with Clara but that never really carried over to other characters. Let's hope that changes.
FatSnorlax maybe he's more protective because of what happened with Clara
Splodge He doesnt remember Clara at this point as far as i know
'Whovians' like you are the reason I hate commenting on Doctor Who videos.
"You're safe in here. You're safe in here and you'll always will be."
Can some one count how many it's *not* been safe in the TARDIS?
Demon Eon THE DOCTOR'S WIFE . JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE TARDIS . JOURNEY'S END
Demon Eon: Invasion of Time, The Mind Robber, The Enemy of the World...
Some Random Guy earth shock, attack of the cybermen

Shada. Technically the doctor was not there but it was still inside the TARDIS and Romana was endangered.

What was it originally in? I think I remember the story but I can't put a name to it.

War machine
The War Machines
They brought the song back! Omg they brought that song back
TheRainingKing Yep, the mad man in a box, associated with 11 and Amy!
"I'll tell you what. Let's just pop, into my box." There is something about that sentence that makes it amazing lol
The more I watch this the more sad it makes me that Peter Capaldi is leaving at the end of the series.
Now THAT is Doctor Who.
0:17 I don’t think she could have said that line any better
Makes me crack up every time
Yes!!! I love how she says it!
I loved the look on the Doctor’s face. You can tell how excited he was to finally have a new companion.
"You're safe in here, and you always will be" This line makes me tear up everytime i hear it
Tbf as a kid, mentally, that was my safe zone. Still is. If i am scared or stressed or angry, i imagine myself figuring it out in the tardis. I love this line cause for me it's very true:)
12 - “Nothing gets through these doors”
Season 12 - Judoon teleport inside the Tardis...
Technically, they didn't go through the doors.
Peter has given us the greatest Tardis reveal yet. How pleased he is when he says Tardis for short, what a show off!! Love him
Kudos on lighting the Tardis progressively rather than all at once. The lights coming on a few at a time, quietly, made that an absolutely gorgeous shot.
I love how they used Matt's "Mad man with a Box" theme when she turns around. One of the best reveals

Those Lines and the way they were delivered gives me goosebumps every time. Peter Capaldi is my Doctor !!
"You will always be safe in here and you always will be"
10 episodes later, steps outside and gets a gaping hole blasted through her chest
Well, she did step outside of it.
Should have stayed inside the Tardis then.
Thank you for not putting in the whole scene and keeping the rest for tomorrow !
I love how her coat has the word "wow!" on it, love it so much lol!
That shot of the camera pulling into the darkness as the lights slowly come on...magical.
Happy birthday peter Capaldi
It's his birthday?! Happy birthday, Peter!
love you man!!
Zoinks!
I really think I'm going to love Bill. She just looks so innocent, natural and human.
Yeah i think she is going to be the best companion since donna
Bill was awesome. Pity she was only in one season, though.
The scene where Peter comes out in his velvet jacket with the "mad man with a blue box" theme music explaining what the TARDIS is is so freaking epic. He looks like some brilliant mad scientist. EPIC.
I absolutely love the way it silently lights up while Bill's turned around. Absolutely genius delivery.
I love that sly look the Doctor gives when Bill gives her little sassy "Er, they're made of wood??????" remark, and he's just like "Oh, she's gonna be fun."

Super hyped for the episode, but that music... hurts my heart ;-;
Bill: I know you’re not really a sci-fi person
The doctor: is literally the longest lasting sci-fi series ever
I love the blend of Amy's theme/Matt's regenerating theme with a little 12th doctor style music... that's awesome
really enjoyed the first episode by the way, murray surprised me AGAIN he Is a genius... DOCTOR WHO IS BACK!
WOW! looks like Bill is gonna be great! 😍
this music makes my eyes watery i don't know why
Edit: oh i remember now it was the same music when matt took off his bowtie and regenerated and now i'm even more sad.
It's Eleven and Amy's theme, oh my goodness 💙

*Sad man with a box 😉

One of the best tardis intros and mad man with a blue box theme ALL THE FEELS
This scene is a beautiful piece of art.
The most beautiful piece of music, so fitting and so moving ☺️
I know you're not much of a sci-fi person *turns around*
I love it
Just finished watching the episode.. Amazing!
I like that The Doctor had to go get his jacket and be properly dressed in order to introduce Bill to the Tardis.
My favorite TARDIS Decor has to be twelfth. It looks awweeesome.
Everytime someone new walked down that small step the tadis makes the same noise so i like to think she is scanning them
The lights coming on in stages may have been the best TARDIS bridge reveal yet.
Bill, Nardole, Weird puddle monster, Daleks, Classic Sonics, Movalons?, Doctor, TARDIS! I'VE WAITED TO LONG!
THE MUSIC WHEN HE TURNS ON HIS TARDIS IS THE AMY THEME AWWWWWWWWW😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍THIS IS GOING TO BE A TIME FOR AWESOME

TheMysteriousCurator it is. It seems like this is a different variant.
Awwh, the pride and happiness when he introduced the TARDIS!
0:40 That moment that the companion realizes that "the box" is anything but a box.
I just realized, that't the "Out of Order" sign the first doctor used when he explained the TARDIS is mistaken for a real police box.
Love the way he says "TARDIS for short" it's so cool I really wish the rest of the season kept the awe inspiring tone of this episode.
ok the scene itself was freakin epic yeah, but can we take a moment to appreciate how beautiful both the shots and the lighting were!? I am so excited for this season!
"Time and Relative Dimension in Space...TARDIS for short".
Capaldi's really come into his own as the Doctor...Gonna miss him after this season.
That was a great long shot of bill at the door, it just pans out into the darkness I loved it, the BBC have some quality thinking.
I've realised that the music used when Bill turns around and see the TARDIS is similar to when Danny Pink sees the TARDIS in The Caretaker...
No wonder they're calling this episode "The Pilot", it could pretty much be the pilot to revival Doctor Who on its own. XD
JoyStar Moffat even stated in one of the newest interviews that this episode is almost like the beginning, anybody could start doctor who at this episode and they would be fine! So probably!
That actually made me smile, one of the best Tardis entrances, great stuff :)
I love how Capaldi just changes his clothes for no reason
He does have a reason.. because he's the Doctor!
Isnt it so funny to see the new companions go in the TARDIS and be like 🤨🤯😲
"You're safe in here and always will be"

"you're safe in here, and you always will be"
no wonder she died outside the tardis
i love that they used the 80's interior hum for this scene!
I'm not the only one who thinks that the music when Bill turns around somehow seems simultaneously enchanting and... menacing?
Wishing they would do a scene sometime where an adversary tries multiple methods to get into TARDIS and the clever ways it would fail.
