Agree with your takes Chris! On stage 20 last year, Pog wanted the win to make up for his terrible day on La Loze, and Jonas didn't take a single pull, he had over 7 minute lead but still marked Pog as if he was 10 sec behind. They got caught by a bunch of other people and Pog had to win the sprint with an amazing leadout from Adam Yates. Nobody gifted Pog last year stage 20 as a consolation because he cracked spectacularly on La Loze and lost the tour by over 7 minutes. And that's fine. Then, Visma didn't hesitate to win the 3 grand tours last year. In La Vuelta they won 5 stages and went 1,2,3 in the GC, no apologies, no gifts, and that's all good. The thing that was not cool was Jonas and Roglic attacking Sepp, their own teammate!!, that's actually bad. Sepp Kuss saved his Vuelta thanks to Mikel Landa who was not even his teammate but pulled him on Angliru. Pog not gifting the stage today was not mean and not even revenge. It is a competition and if he is in the position to win he should try, as long as he is not attacking his teammate!

I’m certain Pogacar went to bed thinking today would be a vacation ride through home roads, but Pogacar is someone who gets that itch to race the moment he sits in the saddle. I’m happy the day ended with another battle between the top riders. Pogacar came into the tour with otherworldly form backed by an incredible team, and he should reap all the rewards of his efforts.
To those thinking that Pogacar should have gifted the stage to Jonas, let’s not forget that Jonas and Primoz had no problem putting their own teammate Sepp Kuss to the sword while he was leading the Vuelta. There are no expectations of gifts in professional sport, especially between opposing teams. Besides, I think the fact Pogacar and UAE gave no gifts this tour makes Carapaz’s KOM jersey feel much more satisfying.

Therefore jonas knew that he would rather win the vuelta than let roglic take it. In jonas head he thought that when roglic attacked he needed to follow because he thought roglic was strong enough to both take his and kuss places on the podium.

Regarding the trifecta, I say Pog should absolutely go for it. After all, how often do you get the chance to metaphorically feast on a Danish anchovy's lunch and then tell him to swim in water without salt? It's a golden opportunity! And just imagine the scene: after clinching the Vuelta, Pog casually strolls over with a shaker of salt, gleefully rubbing it into the Viking King's wounds.
