Shaw and Doull didn't just soft pedal. They actually waited several minutes. From an interview reported on Cyclingnews: "We had a little tea party on the KoM," Shaw joked when he reached the finish in Maeztu. "No, I don't think any cameras picked it up, but we were getting our glasses cleaned in the car and we were filling up on drinks for about three or four minutes - or maybe more, it felt like a lifetime. Every group that came over the climb, I said 'OK, this is it,' but then I'd see I had to wait for the next one."

Indeed, a very well executed exercise from Shaw and Doull in support of Carapaz, reminded me a little of the jumbo-visma raid on stage 11 to Col du Granon where they had domestique's (Laporte) waiting on the Telegraphe and where we saw that awesome two to one fight between Pogacar and Vingegaard backed by Roglic in Valoire and on the Galibier. Thanks for sharing :)
Kern Pharma played it PERFECT this stage!😍 Great to see the local lad winning in front of his parents!!!🥰 Landa perhaps paying for some over-aggressive riding in previous stages?🦋
Roglic doesn't have to do anything but follow Carapaz and Mas - they will do the work. Those pharmaceutical guys (Kern Pharma) must be having good supplements 😁
Knucklehead apology by Chris for yesterday's mistake was very nice.👍👍 Soudal T-Rex and how they handle Mikal Landa tactically are the true Knuckleheads. What is DS thinking? Love to be a fly on the wall on the Soudal T-Rex team bus.

Kern Pharma has won 3 grand tour stages this year, and was invited only to the Vuelta. (Ineos has won 2 across all 3 grand tours.) Kern's tactics in the last few km looked great, as they did in their earlier wins. Maybe not just their riders should move up to WT teams, but their DS as well.
This is the first time I've seen an invite team kick some butt and it's been awesome to watch. Kern played it perfectly today. I bet they start getting more invites after this superb showing. Great analysis Chris 👍 But T-Rex pulled the knuckleheaded move of the day. They pulled him out of the break to late. There was know way he was going to help landa that late Chris.
Its a long time ago that a smaller team performed like this, Argos-Shimano got 5 stages with Degenkolb in the 2012 Vuelta, Cervelo had 4 stages in the Giro 2009.
@GonzoJohnny I was in Afghanistan at that time, so I missed those races. I missed those races. But they probably didn't televise those races back then like they do now. And I was in Iraq in 09 also.
@@slayer6936 True, at best we got to see the finale, tops an hour or two and often only broadcasted in Europe. Even Chris his win was hard to follow/waiting on images.

He is a bum always flops on week 3 he is so old the cycling has left him time to retire who cares about him as team leader he is never winning with the level of competition now
Kern Pharma with 3 stage wins is a great story! Mauro Schmid has been close a number of times. Tomorrow we see if Roglic can finally relieve Ben O’Connor of the race leader’s jersey. Once again a great summary. The still photos really capture the key moments of the stage. Nice editing.
I would love to see Mauro Schmid win a stage. To be honest, I didn’t think Ben O’Connor would still be in red, at this point in the Vuelta. Cheers! 🦋👊🇨🇭
Thanks. That picture of Victor Lafay in the break at about 76k to go was hard to find. I almost had to tell you guys that Lafay was hiding in the bushes all day until Ben passed by. 🤪😂👊🦋
Good point on the still photo's, it can tell the story of the stage into detail if done right without even needing video, a big deserved compliment to Chris channel. 😊
I would be surprised if he really goes for broke, i expect him to attack hard to see what happens but i dont think he will keep attacking when/after he reaches a virtual podium position. He's in good shape and rides good TT's when he is. If he can get ahead of Mas or O'Connor he should be safe.
I've traded my bed for a massive Chesterfield and painted white, red-outlined arrows all over the walls. Now I go full gas in my dreams and wake up refreshed without using a knuckleheaded alarm clock. 🛋️🦋
Regarding T-Rex Quickstep tactics, I would have told Cattaneo, and also Pedersen and Vansevenant, to stop right after the kom. The thing is, they didn't do it right away. When they stoped Catteneo, imo, that was a bad tactical decision. Landa was already losing 3 minutes at that time and he had already lost as many positions as he could (Because Adam Yates and also Sep Kuss were also losing time with him). At this moment, what's the difference to a team like Quickstep to be 8th or 10th in the final GC? The damage was done. I think the right move, at that time, was to leave Cattaneo at the front. I would've told him to stop 30km earlier though
If Primoz should hang in until the time-trial for his 6 seconds...we will all be down to the knuckles(no pun intended) with anxiety!🤣🤣🤣 Great Chris...only 3 days left of your wondrous podcasts on this tour that has had it all..Chesterfields aplenty and loads of knucklehead tactics.
Kern Pharma figure out how to ride as underdogs, they had good numbers riding conservative in the break, Kung on the other hand was all over the place, would like to see him win one, such a quality rider Thanks Chris and Garrett for everything !
The Cattaneo move was dumb in the extreme. At that moment, Landa was around 2.20 behind. With 13km remaining, Cattaneo had to stand still to join Landa at the 13km mark, while the group would be ahead 2km at that time. Can Cattaneo, with the help of his teammates who have ridden the whole stage on the front, keep up against 4 teams rotating when there's 13km remaining? Sorry, but this DS is currently in the lead for Knucklehead of the Vuelta.
This is random but I'm thinking it'd be better for pros to ride flats with pins as a pedal retention system. It is just that in a fall, being attached to the bike prevents being able to instantly put a foot down or break free from the bike. Something needs to be done to give riders a better chance in a fall and even a little body armor would be a good start.
Why can't the cameras roll from the start every day? I understand they may not want to broadcast the whole race, but with streaming, they could have the whole race for people to watch after the fact or for adding in highlights during the broadcast

Chris, why was the Kern Pharma third-place Delgado relegated to ninth? The explanation is he impeded the racing line of Schmid. Didn't see anything in the sprint?
"Pablo Castrillo from Equipo Kern Pharma was relegated due to an infringement during the race. Specifically, he was penalized for drafting behind a team car for an extended period, which is against the race regulations"
It happened before the corner, probably the reason why he came out so far ahead out of it. It's unfortunately not in any of the highlights / stage summary videos I've seen.
Landa was left isolated by all his teamates. He eventually got help from two of them. I didn't see, on the video, if Cattaneo dropping back was any help at all to Landa. The DS for T-Rex is the real knucklehead here. I think Cattaneo should have been left free to ride for the win, however unlikely.
Come on Chris. You cannot be serious. There is absolutely no reason to call cattaneo back with 10-11 km to. He can't do a difference at that point. He should have been waiting at the summit of the last climb. That might have made a difference.

they both only just accidentally got in contention of it because WVA crashed. So imo it's fair for them to fight it out. + it's not like they are still riding to protect a gc guy so it's open riding for both I believe.
