Shaw and Doull didn't just soft pedal. They actually waited several minutes. From an interview reported on Cyclingnews:
"We had a little tea party on the KoM," Shaw joked when he reached the finish in Maeztu. "No, I don't think any cameras picked it up, but we were getting our glasses cleaned in the car and we were filling up on drinks for about three or four minutes - or maybe more, it felt like a lifetime. Every group that came over the climb, I said 'OK, this is it,' but then I'd see I had to wait for the next one."

How? KoM 35km from the finish, they join at 25km from the finish... 10 km is insane distance.
      Landa time gap:
      - KoM 0: 36 down (35km)
      - 1. help 01: 30 down (25km)
      - Cantanio talk 02: 45 down (13km)
      - finish 03: 20 down (0km)

Indeed, a very well executed exercise from Shaw and Doull in support of Carapaz, reminded me a little of the jumbo-visma raid on stage 11 to Col du Granon where they had domestique's (Laporte) waiting on the Telegraphe and where we saw that awesome two to one fight between Pogacar and Vingegaard backed by Roglic in Valoire and on the Galibier. Thanks for sharing :)

Kern Pharma has won 3 grand tour stages this year, and was invited only to the Vuelta. (Ineos has won 2 across all 3 grand tours.) Kern's tactics in the last few km looked great, as they did in their earlier wins. Maybe not just their riders should move up to WT teams, but their DS as well.

Regarding T-Rex Quickstep tactics, I would have told Cattaneo, and also Pedersen and Vansevenant, to stop right after the kom. The thing is, they didn't do it right away. When they stoped Catteneo, imo, that was a bad tactical decision. Landa was already losing 3 minutes at that time and he had already lost as many positions as he could (Because Adam Yates and also Sep Kuss were also losing time with him). At this moment, what's the difference to a team like Quickstep to be 8th or 10th in the final GC? The damage was done. I think the right move, at that time, was to leave Cattaneo at the front. I would've told him to stop 30km earlier though

The Cattaneo move was dumb in the extreme. At that moment, Landa was around 2.20 behind. With 13km remaining, Cattaneo had to stand still to join Landa at the 13km mark, while the group would be ahead 2km at that time. Can Cattaneo, with the help of his teammates who have ridden the whole stage on the front, keep up against 4 teams rotating when there's 13km remaining?

This is random but I'm thinking it'd be better for pros to ride flats with pins as a pedal retention system. It is just that in a fall, being attached to the bike prevents being able to instantly put a foot down or break free from the bike. Something needs to be done to give riders a better chance in a fall and even a little body armor would be a good start.

I've been making notes on commentators for the past few years--24 by my count, thus far, e.g., Sean Kelly, Magnus Bäckstedt, Anthony McCrossan (the worst), Rob Hatch (the second worst), Daniel Lloyd, Carlton Kirby, and so on. In my opinion, Vandevelde is one of the *best*, if not the best. I've learned more from him than I have any of the others. I get so annoyed by most of them. Vandevelde is a breath of fresh air. I hope and pray he stays featured on NBC till the end of my days. That's not guaranteed, unfortunately, because he's not smooth, he tends to trip over his words quite often which, I fear, for the narrow-minded suits at NBC could be enough to get him canned.
