  • True crime meets health and wellness in this dystopian interview with former lobbyist and author Calley Means. Shocking secrets and statistics reveal the truth behind Big Pharma, Big Food, and how The FDA rigged the system and wields control over our lives. Alex and Calley discuss an actual healthcare reform plan that neither the left nor right is addressing, how lobbyists use silly food studies for sinister purposes, theories on the push for Ozempic, how organic food and red light therapy qualify as tax right-offs, and what he witnessed working for these corrupt industries in The Swamp.

    As a pregnant mom of 3 very young kids and only 1 income, you absolutely can feed your kids healthy real food without breaking the bank. You have to be intentional but it can be done. We buy no processed foods unless it's a treat or convenience meal (maybe 1x/week) and make everything from scratch, down to milling our own organic wheat for homemade bread and making our own ketchup. We source raw dairy, raise sheep, and have a garden. With that context, here's what my 2 year old actually ate yesterday:
    Breakfast: beef patty and bread
    Snack: protein shake, oatmeal, banana
    Lunch: sardines and rice
    Snack: liver (seriously)
    Dinner: lamb steak, "fries," asparagus, more yummy homemade bread
    No refined oils, sugars, etc. And you don't have to raise sheep or have a garden. Buy grass fed meat from a local farmer, source fresh organic produce. Making your own bread and snacks is actually cheaper. I am sick of seeing parents and government programs poison our children. Their health is worth the extra expense - so feed them right.

      YESSSS!!! Thank you!!!
      When I’m with my head in the toilet (pregnancy is no joke) I homemake pretty much everything for my husband when he works.
      The months where we have to buy “rig snacks”, usually over processed typical American snacks. We will spend $300-500 on groceries.
      The months where I am on top of my game and I make everything, we spent $150-300 on groceries. And most of that is local meat… meat is expensive. But the “snack” part of it is not that expensive.
      I have noticed we eat A LOT less when we are consistently healthy. Just not as hungry as normal and don’t need huge snacks or meals. We tone up and have much more energy.

    Symptoms are not the problem, they are the warning signs that are telling you something is wrong. I started avoiding pain reliever when I got a headache and instead starting asking myself, "WHY do I have a headache?" 9/10 it was sleep deprivation; my body was telling me I wasnt getting enough rest to function properly. I realised I was taking medicine to stop the symptom and ignore the problem. Drugs and medicine have their place, but they should not be treated as the main solution.

    • @corackadile
      @corackadile Месяц назад +2

      I don't think people realize how important sleep actually is for your body's recovery. Most people are so used to being deprived of good sleep, that they think they can function normally, but they can't. Sleep deprivation can cause digestive issues, headaches, hallucinations... it can also contribute to obesity because we tend to make poor food choices when sleep deprived. It's almost like a competition these days of who can do the most with the least amount of sleep.

    • @stephanieveloso5326
      @stephanieveloso5326 Месяц назад +1

      @@corackadile 💯 agree, especially with the obesity part because I've experienced this with my weightloss journey. I noticed that I would slim down much faster when good sleep accompanied good food choices and exercise. Sleep plays a huge role in health overall.

    I'm 24, have never been to a hospital or had any serious sicknesses, diseases, or problems, and have never suffered from any kind of mental illness at all. I'm the picture of health. And I really believe it has SO much to do with the fact that my incredible mom of 9 took the time to feed me and my siblings healthily all my life. We ate clean meats, lots of plant proteins and good carbs like beans and brown rice, and very, very little processed snacks or sugar. It was spinach-packed green smoothies and homemade bread for us! And while I didn't appreciate it sometimes as a kid, I'm so grateful for it now. Food really is the gateway to being healthy and happy... or disease-riddled, in the mind AND the body.
    Keep in mind, she had _9 kids._ You can _absolutely_ feed your kids healthy, both with not very much time AND while on a tight budget!! We helped her make the food, and when some of us were teenagers, we partially took over food prep to help her. I learned to make healthy food from scratch because of that. It's worth it. And if my mom of 9 kids could do it, so can you!
    I'm fully planning on doing the same with my future children, and already do so with my husband and I. I have been learning to scratch-bake our bread, we only eat snacks without seed oils, and have given up ice cream for frozen berries as dessert!
    But I thank my mom for all of it. She was ahead of her time.

    My daughter was born in 2013 with Spina Bifida. In 2014 I got a phone call from the state university doing research on the increasing rates of Spina Bifida in our state. Their first question was asking if I worked near a farm with pesticides during my pregnancy. I never got an explanation nor did any big initiative occur to remove pesticides from our area. They also asked if I ate foods with folate and I realized I have no clue what foods have folate. I did everything I thought was right during my pregnancy, followed all the rules, took my vitamins and yet still my daughter suffers. I'm so grateful for her life but if food and pesticides play a part it's criminal that no one knows.

    I’m working with my two older boys who are getting old enough to learn about making healthy food choices. I’m not naive enough to believe that if I get the junk out of our house that they won’t have disordered eating if I make our home so strict. But teaching them about macros, how to make a balanced meal and pick something that will fuel them over making them hungry an hour later if they want snacks. Giving kids critical thinking tools and the information to make good choices and learn you can have some balance is important. Our next generation needs classes in nutrition, how to improve their own mental and physical health and cooking.

    His experience with his mother being pushed to undergo long (and very painful!) cancer treatments that actually had little chance of extending her life even by a few weeks is crazy. It matches my own family's experience with cancer during covid. We had to fight tooth and nail to get them to release my opa from the hospital where he would have died by himself (they wouldnt even let his wife visit him!!), and they were nasal swabbing him twice a day for covid while he was there!

    As a lower income American after a horrible back injury, make it easier to buy the non fast food! I am still a person that cooks organic and doesn't usually buy soda. It's so expensive for actual food right now! The government honestly should have classes that teach how to cook good foods before you receive any food stamps!

    • @ellinan.espinosa2289
      @ellinan.espinosa2289 5 дней назад

      I totally understand and empathize with you. It is hard when you don't know where to start.
      In the short term yes it's more expensive to buy REAL food at the check out line. BUT in the long run it's actually cheaper.
      What happens if your body is nurished with whole foods packed with vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, healthy natural fats and carbohydrates. So you actually end up eating less! You get full and stay fuller longer 😊 your body is satisfied ❤
      So you end up not needing to snack all day and you don't consume as much. This means you and your family can have left overs and just reheat the food. 🎉
      See when we eat low quality crappy ingredients our bodies use in that really quickly and we immediately get hungry again. Also those bad foods contain MSG and tons of sugar which are actually addictive so you end up eating more than what you need (overeating = wasting food = wasting money = get fat), but then you will be hungry again very soon since the crappy food doesn't have real vitamins, minerals, proteins, etc...
      Start small with some simple recipes. Cook 1 or 2 large meals that can be eaten over the next few days with the leftovers. And then do the math. (Example, bad food cost $20 but feeds you just 1 time only... So that's $20 multiplied by how many times you eat in a day and who else also eats... It can add up quickly) (Good REAL food may cost $60 at the register, you go home and make a delicious meal and it lasts you and the family a day or 2, so it's actually so much cheaper). You can really save money! ❤🎉😊
      Good luck on your health journey!

Not thinking about how lunch meats have preservatives in it… of course now I know that but I just thought it was a better choice than other things. It’s like we don’t even know what to eat… I pray they start teaching children and us parents on how to prepare foods and what to eat. I can’t believe how our government wants us to die all for money. So greedy and so sad! I got off of cokes and started drinking water with crystal light… then I found out that crystal light has aspartame in it!! 😮 so I got off of that. It’s so frustrating! I was cooking baked chicken one night, looking at the seasoning I put on the chicken- teriyaki sauce had all kinds of color additives and chemicals. It’s almost impossible to cook anything healthy! My.moms rule was always "eat as close to the natural source as possible." So think whole fruits, veggies, grains, meats. Shop the "outside" of the grocery store- produce, organic dairy if you can afford it (go for whole milk! Not the watered down stuff!).
      You don't have to be elaborate in your meal making either! Pick a meat for protein, some vegetables for sides, and some rice or whole grains if you need it to keep feeling full.
      ❤️ Small changes help a lot!

      All the drink "enhancers" and most condiments usually have lots of garbage in them. Maybe try researching better condiments and drink enhancers? For the drink stuff, look for clean electrolyte sticks (or cannisters). LMNT is a popular one and so is Redmond Real Salt's line. Myoxience has a good one, too, that also uses Redmond Real Salt. For spices and seasonings, Redmond Real Salt has some good organic ones. You can also mix your own seasoning and spice blends by looking up recipes online. A favorite spice source of mine is The Spice House. They grind their spices to order and they also have delicious blends and dip/dressing mixes. There are also a lot of great recipes out there for homemade condiments from websites like Pro Home Cooks and so many others. Pro Home Cooks has some great tips and recipes for making eating healthier, homemade food a lot easier. 😊

    My husb and I spend SO MUCH money on supplements that our Integrative doc recommended. None covered by insurance, but the visits and labs are covered. We feel so much better with the supps, so it's worth it, but like damn, thousands of dollars yearly on medical expenses that aren't covered by Insur (thankfully we do have an HSA that helps pay for them)

    My husbands doctor at VA did routine colonoscopy & perforated his colon & he had emergency surgery to save him. Healing is slow. I also wonder if things like that are scams ? for money? seems like most people have polyps & they say are pre cancer so screen sooner next time. But are they really? I do think cleaner eating & eating meat from local farmers would be best but so far i havent. Idk what to believe anymore. Just like mamograms idk seem to save lives as do colonoscopies but do they really?

She got early alzhiemers @ 69 & died at 70!!! she loved being in yard and lost lots of weight a couple of years before she got alzheimers. her lifestyle of not eating meat & just eating veges didnt help her live longer. My husbands grandma was 103 when she died... was overweight but ate alot & cooked lots of breads, meats & stuff. idk what to really think about what we eat. But I try to eat more fish & rarely bread . etc

Bottom line in 2014 significant increase of 6 month old obese babies. Now big pharma raking in the money with all these GLP-1 shots, that in another interview is changing economies in western countries.

      False. Yes, seek good quality local sources for sure but refined carbs and wheat based foods are not an ideal or even good source of nutrition. You only absorb about 50% of plant protein as it’s not bio available like meat. Animal protein is almost fully absorbed (95%). Your body has no need for carbs but it is essential to have protein and fat. Meat is far far more nutritious than any other food source and less prone to allergens, has no lectins, oxylates, phytic acid, or any other inflammatory components like plants can have. Meat should be at least 60-80% of your diet. Everything else is trivial.
