Tips like this are brilliant, they can be done on a Sunday morning when you are doing other little tips and tricks to your vehicle to make life easier. Thanks Rich.
As an IT guy, I can tell you that doing this did NOT speed up Windows. Now my 24" G-Sync monitor has silicone all over it! Your eye looks like it healed up well too, awesome! I need to go do this on my 2002 BMW. God I cannot wait to sell it!
When you sprayed at the bottom of the track in the door and said "let it flow down" - was truly a Eureka moment... I've taken door panels off, I ought to know this already but - only now do I realize THE TRACK GOES DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR and is the exact same material as the rest of the track... the light bulb finally went off for me - thanks for that.
2013 ford escape. Driver side just started going up slow now that it's cold here in Illinois. Went up a bit quicker when the car was warmed up. Did what you said with regular lube spray and it worked! Thought I was going to have to take window apart or take to dealer. Thanks sooooo much!
Another nice tip for simple periodic maintenance. I use silicone spray annually on all of my window glide channels as well as on the doors & trunk lid weather stripping seals.
100% correct fix for this problem. The silicone spray lubricates the rubber window seal. I am in the autobody business and we use this all the time. Over time the rubber seal dries up and this restores it to like new condition.
Yes, those felt runners and the guides get dry over time and weather. We use the CRC HD Silicone Spray on those and it keep them soft and supple so they give as the window goes through them vs. the stiff and hard felt that will bind. Sadly, the felt materials used today just don't last as long as they used to. The silicone spray works well with all weatherstriping and seals etc. Even around ignition wires and electrical connections, it helps keep moisture away while preserving the plastics and flexible materials. Vacuum hoses etc benefit from it just the same.
I always sprayed the silicone on my own car doors, for decades, from the first time I read you ought to do it. My dad had an old Dodge Mirada though, he never bothered doing that. The result was predictable, after 20 years they crumble like crepe paper. Ever tried replacing weather-stripping/door seals?? UGH it's the worst job I can think of almost... just one try at that, and I never forgot to treat the seals ever again -
Thank you got the excellent tip!! Gonna add this to my twice a year maintenance schedule that already includes lubing all the lock mechanisms from the hood to tailgate, cleaning and lubing the spare tire cable and locks and other stuff.
Just sprayed silicone a few weeks ago. I was already cleaning the weatherstripping so might as well spray some silicone down the window channels. Thanks for the tip on the Napa lubricant, I will get it now.
Once again, great advice 👍 I also use syl glide along the weather strip of the doors on the car to help prevent them from freezing shut. A little goes a long way as said, too much and it will get on your clothes if you brush against it.
I use the silicone spray for my storm doors at home bc they have the interchangeable screens/glass that drop down or pull up in guide channels. Works wonders in terms of minimizing resistance.
I’ve seen plenty of window motor concerns in my dealership most are bad enough that the motors are over heating and stop working. Let them sit for a minute and they start working again. Clean and lube the seals and channels and they work perfectly fine. Learned my lesson after warranty a regulator and motor and still had the same issue.
Alot of great info! I have a window that shutters. It has been cleaned in the groove, opening and siliconed it a few times. It improves, but doesn't get better. I have Sil glide, so will try that. 🙂🐶👍🏼
Had the same problem in my Ranger. Had to remove the door panel then clean and re-lube the metal slide that the window slides on. Now it seems weird that after 15 or 20 years that the window once again works right...
Now I don't really care about the overspray though it doesn't hurt anything you just have to wipe it down when you're done I actually wanted to spray kind of a little wide it'll get two sides of the felt and it'll come out in more of a concentration form thick mass If I felt like it was a problem I would jot have done it this way...
When replacing the door actuators on my 2000 F250 (and had the door panels off) I lubed up the window tracks inside the door as well. The windows all work like new now.
I lube my window guides every spring but, this spring will be different bc my new/ used van has crank windows so, I'll have clean the crank mechanism bc I could barely move the windows.
Silicone will make 20yr old windows work like they are new. Stops squeaks on the door seals as well, without degrading the rubber and foam the way petroleum sprays will. Keep up the good work! Free Tip: use it on your camper slide-outs for smoooooth operation.
I have a 99 solara and my windows are doing this same thing makes an awful noise too I'ma give this a try idk if it will work as well because the frameless doors but I'ma definitely try it out thx for the vid
Can you explain and discuss/demonstrate the F150 "frozen door" problem and recall/SB? My 2018 Raptor Super Cap freezes on cold days such that doors will open, but will not latch when closing. Dealer did a service for this which did not work, then the recall or service bulliten came out and they did that (or so they say), ut it did not help at all. I have to park close to my house to use a heat gun on the latch to get the damned doors to latch on cold days.
I already have videos on that if you look in my library you'll see I've already taken care of this type of stuff I have one coming in today I'm actually going to be doing the Frozen door latch recall on 18N03

I wouldn't use sil glyde for that application after while sil glyde gets sticky just use the silicone spray.i use sil glyde to lubricate the o ring on my oil filters just the same as aircraft mechanics do..
