I got big Band of Brothers vibes from the whole "brothers in arms" theme they went for, and I liked the dynamic between Turner and Pierson straight out of Platoon. Plus small details like the shell shocked soldiers make it feel much more brutal.

You can clearly see here that they just pause between shots without actually doing anything with the rifle. It looks really awkward and obvious. Maybe the decision to actually arm the Germans with the Kar98k was a late development decision or something (like maybe they were planned to use the SVT-40 in the early levels too?). Either way tho its a very big fuck-up for such a minor detail to get right.
