The fact that these men were able to do this without any armor or protection besides a helmet that barely kept you safe from getting shot in the head and won is still incredible to me.
WW2 helmets wouldn’t stop a bullet, other than a 9mm at a distance. Mostly protected from fragmentation, if you were lucky. Really explains the high casualty rates.
My Uncle, Jim Hutchins, Uncle Peejee as we call him, is 102 years old. He was there on the beach, storming off of the boat on Normandy Bay. He's told me his stories and there is no one I respect more than him. He is one of the last members of a fleeting generation. Thank you for keeping the memory of his and many other's service alive.
The extraordinary thing about this re-enactment is that we're all used to seeing grainy black and white footage of D-Day, and cinematic portrayals of the landings with lots of cinematic effects, but this is what it must have been like at the time... the sound of the landing craft motors, the drone of aircraft overhead, the wash of the sea, bright blue sky, sandy beaches, bright natural daylight, realistic gunfire and explosion sounds. A mesmerising video. It just goes to remind you that those kids must have had balls bigger than King Kong's.
"Bright natural daylight" Usually you would think of something happy when you see that, when we fail to realize all the horrors of that war occurred on a bright sunny day.

There are actually several D Day veterans who are still with us, They have been interviewed and you can see them here on RUclips
Member of BSA troop 194, we were holding the rope line behind the german trenches to the right of where you advanced, Loved the event! you guys did awesome, Will come again. I wish I saw you and got a photo.
this looks fun would love to try this :D
2:53 hold on sir - I just got my weapon through Temu
Is for the water
Thank you for taking a picture with my boy. He's only 8 and it was one of the highlights of his weekend.
I would absolutely love to see something like this in person!
Nice job! If world history has a crucial day within the dark events that had the entire planet plunged into Nazi horror and Stalinist terror, that day was D-Day. One of the greatest acts of bravery of all time carried out by those young men willing to give everything for the good of the innocent. Greetings from an admirer from Argentina.
Jesus and God loves everyone so much turn to them before its to late
i am only watching and i know this is a reenactment but the adrenaline is real, i hope you post more content like this.
From the German side view Your brain reacts and energy moves you to react to the attack. Hard to describe but the adrenaline is up. You also think about your brothers in arms beside you, and how you can defend them or they defending you.
@@johnbarnett7092 exactly brother wow the feeling.

9 year olds holding back the urge to say “only in Ohio”
These are so neat. Thank you for keeping these reinactments coming.
i tried to go to this this year and sadly some really bad storms canceled the event right before the landing was supposed to happen. drove an hour and half for nothing. it was cool to see what little things we did and to be a part of that atmosphere, though, and i'm bettin' on next year!
i hope you do get in one that would be cool
Such a great video I love your vids but yea I’d love to attend one of these events when I’m older!
They should put LST 325 with the reenacting crew. that would be pretty awesome to see an LST launch Higgins boat off of her and hit the beaches!
The individual boats are owned and transported by individuals
Even just get an LST underway for a weekend event would be cost prohibitive
Yeah... they better make an purpose built LST for such events soon
Love seeing the planes. Im a WW2 plane guy. Seeing the First person view was crazy too! Love your content man!
It was a surprise seeing this man at Conneaut, I was awe struck and I hope to see you next year my man
Man This Is So Sick Love It All, Makes You Feel Like You're There In The LCVP & Landing.
I always go to the Ohio d-day re-enactments, they are so cool😊
what bullets do they use? cos it seems real
@@SteckoDaDonnnthey are real guns but blank bullets
Are the blank rounds very loud?
Not quite, they don't have the compression of a live round so there a little quieter not by a lot though.
@@Predator-yc5up does this mean they can lose their hearing with blanks?
@@darkwall1551yes
@darkwall1551 Well, I don't know about losing it, but yes, it would do damage without ear protection.
The anxiety of a Soldier on the ship is just insane
My great great grandfather was the battle of Iwo Jima and my as a great great grandfather was at the battle day who was shot in the leg, but refused medical attention and bought, but still survived and saved a bunch of people
That looks like a ton of fun! I'm in Canada and would love to attend next year since we don't have anything like that here. To the best of your knowledge do some units have spare weapons to hand out just in case? Or should I start working on a non-combatant role impression?
Could start out as a cook
@@maxwellharris507 Oh that could be fun! From period pictures I saw some cooks had aprons and some didn't but I can't find any info on if they were standard issue, or any regulations regarding them really. I saw At the Front had an apron at some point but it was described as a fantasy item. Any idea of where I could look at to further my research?

How is the enemy notified when you're coming or if there's a delay with the boats
We "The Enemy " have a commanding view of the coast and beach. We see every movement
The fact this was recommended to me on June 6th
did that one once and rode in a jeep with a 50 cal of the landing boat
i have got tears in my eyes for all of those brave soldiers who were K I A and to the survivors god bless them all
7:37 man that’s a war crime 😂😂😂
WorldWarWisdom,
Did you go to Ohio with a group of folks with a plan of what your going to dress like and what your going to do, or did you go by yourself and just join whoever was there?
I went last year as a spectator and want to get involved myself but no info on logistics or groups.
Hope you can help, thanks
Find a group online. Join and train before you go. It's not as easy as it looks.
Agree,,, I doing a German impression, start getting into physical shape about 4 weeks ahead. I lost almost 10 lbs in weight and practiced running and hitting the ground, because of moving around on the sandy beach. @@michaelstaton4956
When i get older i want to do this
same
@@cromwell1243yeah it seems really cool
You can usually start at the age of 16, although you will probably be playing medic until you turn 18 and can legally own a rifle. You just have to find a group.
@@2LTHelman_505_PIR That's super cool is there many requirements?
@@mrtunasandwhich6799 It all depends on the unit. I’d suggest looking to find what reenacting groups are in your area. Best way to do do is to attend local events. Once you find one you want to join, they should have a list of what uniform parts you will need to buy.
I went a few years ago (pre covid) I'm glad this is up n running again. Can't wait to go again
My great grandpa was at Pearl Harbor he used to tell me the stories of how he had been way late to his ship and he didn’t get there and that ship he was supposed to go on was the USS Arizona he also talked about how he could see the pilots in the planes and they looked like a car next to you on the freeway He passed away in 2015 RIP
I should quit airsoft and do this instead
Airsoft hurts bullets can kill
There not real bullets😂
I like to see the young generation of today at least showing interest in what the Greatest Generation went through to save the freedom we have today.

This view was a lot cooler😂 You guys did a great job, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and spent way too much money than I should have at the vendors. It was also nice to meet you 😊
"everyone who moved up with us isnt movin' any more"
it's actually terrifying how real that sounds and how real people actually went through this
Thank you for your service sir!
