Dune novel was written in 1965 so star wars ripped off dune if U think about it. Both films dune part one and two together adapts the first novel dune again written in 1965.

Their shields are set to block objects coming at a specified speed. They can't block everything because then air wouldn't go through. The imperiums fighting style revolves around fast movements with slowed strikes at the end. One of the reasons fighting in the desert is so tough is cause shields can't be used due to them attracting the worms. And since imperials are trained to slow down their strikes at the end, it gives fighters like the freman an opening to dodge (Paul would've beaten Jamis sooner, but his slowed strikes gave Jamis the chance to parry).

The book Dune came out in the 1960's and influenced generations of authors and film makers. From Star Wars to Game of Thrones you can trace back to Dune the influence the book has had on both and many many more. The book is considered a science fiction classic.

The reason why Jessica use the voice sparingly is because if the use it to much the Bene Gesserit would create too many enemies to exist as an Order, that was the purpose of the Gom Jabbar test. They plot and scheme from the shadows.

Star Wars borrowed a lot from the Dune novel and Frank Herbert (the author) even considered suing George Lucas.

The inhabitants of the Dune universe trace their ancient ancestry (more than 20,000 years) back to Earth, which is almost completely a myth to them. After all that time, Earthling names like Paul, Duncan, and Jessica could easily be obscure and exotic to these futuristic people, the same way ancient Roman names like Tiberius, Scipio, and Agrippina sound exotic to us.

The basic story line dates all the way back to Homer's Odyssey. It's called the "hero's journey" idea that is more than 2000 years old. That's why so many stories have that similar plot - Star Wars and Lord of the Rings for example.

nope thats exactly how you train with swords (apart from the hi tech shields) ;) generally you use a blunt metal or wooden/synthetic sword if you did it with sharp blades you would kill a lot of trainees

Shields protect against kinetic energy so it stops/slows down fast moving objects, that why they don´t use guns. If you shoot it with a laser it would explode in a nuclear fashion, thats why the swords.
And Paul was trained by the only two warriors KNOWN to have repeatedly killed Sardaukars, at the time universally known to be unbeatable: Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck.
Saddly they don´t really show how dangerous the Sardaukars are as in the books.

Interesting, we didn’t even realize they weren’t using guns, but that explains a lot!

Yes, the Bene Gesserit Voice is pretty much lie the Jedi Mind Trick. Where did you think Lucas got the idea from?

their names are "human" because it is humanity 10 thousand years. Second Lucas stole or leaned heavily on Dune to produce a watered down, more digestible sci-fi called starwars. but really is just a carbon copy of dune.

Cool discussion/video. Definitely recommend Part 2, the first few books and the old movie to check out. There's even a show that was done.
If you guys do the 2nd part, I'd like to hear you talk a bit about the politics/religious aspects

I hope the newer generations will forget about superman Marvel DC and star wars.
all those are completely unnecessary. old, decrepit, dying from the POV of the brighter minds.

George Lucas stole everything from Asimov, Herber, Valerian, Metal Hurlant, Moebius and many others. If you read their creations, books and comics, you'll painfully discover how mediocre the SW saga is.

I love this movie but, somehow, the action scenes are the most boring parts of it.

The "original" from the 1980's sucks. Don't bother. Read the book instead.
