That intro was wild 💀
Deadass 😂
Even better 25 mins in
She actually kinda looked like Dave Bautista holding the Gune Bucket.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Holy shit that was a jumpscare. I was not expecting Trin to be halfway to Trixie Mattel out of drag
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
trin found a way to make the dune popcorn bucket not the most out of pocket thing about this intro
😂
i love that trin knew how to spell every single name and term from the dune universe correctly but not emperor / empress
The anya taylor joy fetus was good because in the books she’s like a 2yr taking like an adult so I think denis knew it would take the seriousness out
She also wields a knife to stab the baron, that part had me wondering what I was even reading lol.
@@Makaneek5060She uses the gom jabbar
@@YVLIVS to be fair, that's even weirder
She's also born a reverend mother and has all the thoughts of the previous mothers.
Why haven't I heard anyone talk about the part where the Harkonnen's go "CLIMB!!" and mothertruckers FLOAT
What an incredible first few minutes of the film. Those were one of the parts of the film that really stuck with me.
I was sitting in the movie theater thinking- if they can just float, why do they even need to go to the rock?
One thing I was thinking- where the hall did Chani get that onothopter? She leaves on a sandworm and then just shows up to save Paul from the work juice in the ornothopter. Where did that come from and why did they not show it at all? It just felt so much like a scene was missing.
I whispered to my brother “those guys are Not climbing” when they started floating in that scene 🤣
@@Emjay.dremember in the first movie Paul escaped with his mother in an ornithopter the Fremen had (assumingely) stolen and fixed. I believe they "own" some ornithopters.
@@nicolenoemi7869 that makes sense- but it just comes so out of left field with no scene showing where she came from. I started laughing like wth- where did that come from. I am sure there probably is a scene that was cut for time that showed it, and it doesn’t take anything away from the story, it is just funny to me.
Bald Feyd made me fall in love with Austin Butler YEAH I SAID IT this is my truth
you’re right and you should say it!
speak your truth
Louder !
I want him to call me pet😂
The camera shot of his muscly back 🤤🤤
Spice is so weird bc the movie portrays it as essential to travel (which it is) but it makes it seem like the spice is the fuel. However, the navigators take the spice (bc it’s a drug) and it gives them the ability to think of new innovations and travel routes and stuff
I don’t think that is the case. They don’t specify it enough, though.
@@DlES-IRAE from the books at least, it’s true - the part about it being a drug that enhances their mind. However, I understand why the movie didn’t specify because spice as a wanted entity is enough to drive the plot, it’s really necessary to know what specially it does in terms of space travel
@@flippedwafflesokurr728 nono, I just meant I don't think its the case that the movie suggests the spice is needed as fuel :)
@@DlES-IRAE oh okay haha. I just meant that because the movie leaves it ambiguous, I think a lot of people might assume that it is fuel
have i seen dune multiple times? yes
do i still want to hear trin’s summary? yes
NOT the sandworm popcorn bucket 💀 The Shai-Hulussy 😀
Oh gurl no! Florence Pugh is Princess Irulan, not the Padishah Emperor's wife and empress. Shes his daughter lol. 😅
It really can't be understated how a big element of it's success is the fact that it's made well with a clear creative vision from people who actually give an ish about the material. They put respect on the material, set out to represent it for what it was, akd wanted to do it as best as possible. That's something that franchises like Marvel and Star Wars used to have. It's what made them great, and they simply don't have that anymore.
i would argue that what dune did in terms of film making and what marvel and star wars did isn’t super comparable, i think seeing dune in theatres is like getting to see the lord of the rings trilogy firsthand when they came out
One thing I have seen a lot of is die hard book fans hating on the movie because it isn’t beat for beat like the books. But this ish is long as f. The books are soo detailed and so complicated. There is no way to explore every single aspect in a movie that isnt just wildly expensive, long, and honestly hard to follow. They really have done a great job translating the story to film and choose how to best stick to the source material in a way that makes sense.
I mean, it is hard enough to follow with a lot of stuff being in a different language and the little nuances of everything is so specific. I loved the movies and I don’t think I am a dumb person. If they got any more detailed I probably wouldn’t be able to follow.
@Emjay.d you had that with LOTR too. I had my gripes as a book fan (changing characters like Aragorn and Elrond, Sam and Frodo fighting, cutting out a ton or explanations for why they do a lot of things they do, being more anti war and strategy based fighting in books) but it’s still by far the best adaptation and fantastic films just on their own.
@@mggardiner4066 after we went and saw Dune 2 my husband said he thinks that Dune is his second favorite franchise behind LOTR because of how good the world building is.
He is deep into the Brandon Sanderson world right now so that also might have played into why he liked it so much too lol. No one knows how to weave the most complicated stories in just shy of 50 hours like Mr Sanderson.
Dune succeeds knowing that it has every potential to reach the standards that qualify beyond Star Wars level. Everyone's raving about it, and it's definitely something we should all look forward to.
Star Wars was heavily inspired by the dune books 🏃🏻
@@tannerv259agree
Dune is one of the greatest pieces of science fiction the world has ever seen the books inspired franchise like Star Wars, mad max, alien and the original blade runner. The book was said to be impossible to adapt and we kinda saw that with David lynches dune but Denis…the talent is unreal everyone who worked on both movies should be so proud literally created the best pieces of cinema I’ve seen in a while deserves all the “glazing” and praise it’s getting!! Dune messiah is going to be a storm of emotions. 😮💨
I think David lynches version would have been much better as a show or miniseries.
@@lindseystein9676I wish there were a miniseries from like the 2000s that was pretty book accurate but still kinda goofy with the budget they had
@@lindseystein9676the biggest issue with Lynch's version was making Paul a savior
Asking if Feyd is sexy is CRAZY (he is-)
My friends thought I was insane when I said hear me out guys
@@julissaramirez3538they just don’t get it
I think you were right on about how it takes itself seriously. It's a blockbuster-scale scifi movie that doesn't treat its audience like its stupid. Usually blockbusters are expected to hold your hand through the story and I think that's why so many people complained about the first Dune: they were expecting it to all be spelled out for them. But Dune trusted its audience to pay attention and figure stuff out for themselves. And I'm really glad that there was enough of an audience who appreciated that to make it a success.
I think what makes dune great is that it is not just one thing. It has a storyline and sticks to it but is not afraid to take risks and trusts it’s audience to know the difference between fantasy and reality and doesn’t cut corners in terms of craftsmanship. It’s a creative piece of work that is based on concepts that have existed since forever.
Clicked on this video at a bar and turned my phone over out of fear when it started
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the most crucial part to the Dune Movies..Hans Zimmer.
TRIN!!!! im fucking CRYINGGGG at the beginning 😭😭😭😭
Guys this MIGHT just be Feyd Rautha
This is the funniest fucking movie breakdown I’ve ever watch
Holy war written in red marker in all caps and circled multiple times on a mini white board for some reason has me fcking dying
Feyd was doing something to me the entire movie i can’t even lie 😩😩😩😩
Not you as Feyd-Rautha at the beginning lol 😭😭
9:25 Embryo Alia is a deviation from the book (and probably as freaky as child Alia) but I still think it's a smart tweak from Denis, not only for the sake of pacing and brevity but to enforce Frank Herbert's warning on human's overreliance with thinking machines, only for other humans with machines to enslave them several centuries before the movies (imagine Remy controlling Chef Auguste like a robot in Ratatouille).
I'm thinking an awesome twist could be that her abomination could be the now super evil Rev Mother Jessica instead of the Baron. The Jessica in her head vs the Jessica IRL
Embryo scenes were CRAZYY CREEPY but I was there for it
Especially when Lady Jessica was whispering to it about converting the non-believers
How come i didn’t know trin was the voice who sang all the “ahhhs” in the movie. Shes really got that lisan al giab in her
So I saw dune in imax, and the sound design and cinematography and colour/lighting work was just incredible. It was an experience which, for me, surpassed that of any other. I'm not sure if I would have felt the same if it wasn't in imax, but I am pretty sure it still would have been awesome. That being said, the standout features for me were sound design (including the way the score worked), cinematography and the colours/lighting./
i felt like it was up there with interstellar for me
14:47 your ‘haaAAAaaaAAAAA!’ is so good 😂
If you were my history teacher I would have passed with flying colors. You explain complicated stories so well ... with the exception of your spelling of course lol.
I’m the same I looooooved the first Dune remake. So fucking good. THE SOUND DESIGN??? THE SCORE???? SO GOOD!!!
dune is so brilliant in how it doesnt spell things out for you, there are many layers to each scene and conversation, which the books take to another level, but i really did enjoy the choices that denis villeneuve made on depicting each emotion and character. i completely agree that watching the movie after seeing villeneuve talk abt how if he could do a movie with no dialogue he would was so interesting and it completely changed the way that i watched it. the movie is so visually impactful, it really could hold itself without dialogue imo
And it perfectly captures all the text of their intrusive thoughts from the book with no dialogue as well. Peak cinematography.
INTRO 😭😭😭
Concerning the fetus - Jessica does talk to Alia in utero, but there is a two year time skip after her birth and she grows double speed, so she's about 6yo by the end of the book, but speaks and acts like a grown woman because she has a bunch of old ladies in her brain.
I think Denis was just scared that he wouldn't be able to pull it off, but skipping Alia's childhood removes so much of her personality (she's feared among the Fremen and is the one to kill Baron H)
Water of life is sandworm bile, not pee btw 😅 drowning the worms causes a death spasm where they vomit up their stomachs because water is poisonous to them.
So what does Paul become since his sister killed Baron H?
@@TimeIsAnIllusionBCipher Nothing really changes for Paul, it just detracts from Alia's narrative. Killing her own grandfather has some pretty messed up ramifications for Alia down the line.
@@LordVolkov oh my god. Like psychologically? Or because she’s known as the one who killed her grandfather?
@@TimeIsAnIllusionBCipher Frank Herbert - Why not both? 😅
Alia is so interesting when she grows up, which is why I am hoping DV can stick Messiah for the book fans with a decent adult Alia. I do have faith in ATJ's talent, it's just a matter of what they choose to do with her.
@@LordVolkov 😂😂😂
That just sounds absolutely amazing. Makes me want to read the books.
Hans Zimmer did a great score for the first one but he outdid himself this time, you can tell he is a true fan boy
I think the seriousness of it 100% made it stand out to other franchises. Lately, most big franchise movies try to be comedic and have some 'witty' one-liner (it always ends up being "he's right behind me, isn't he?" tho 💀) but it falls flat because it doesn't come naturally--it's so calculated and forced--but Dune takes itself seriously and deep-dives into grim themes, so any comedic lines or moments felt genuine. Like a real person cracking a joke rather than a big corporation trying to come up with the most generic 'joke' possible that they've already tested and is proven to make 90% of the audience chuckle.
TRIN HELP THE INTRO
Tell me why you SLAYYYED the vocal cries of the FREMEN?! Just out of nowhere like it was NOTHING??
AND AUSTIN 🥵🥵🥵🥵
20:58 this take is 1000% 🔥. Consistency of an earnest tone without plugging in out of place comedy (even though Dune pt 2 does have some specific organic funny bits). It also respects the audiences’ intelligence which it doesn’t feel like larger franchises really do anymore
Couldn't have said any of this better myself. Both the Dune films are absolute masterclasses in how to create, market and assemble a true quality high budget film.
As a person who did not really care when the first one came out or even the second but I gave it a chance and I can say no regrets you can just tell that these movies are not just a love letter to dune but to film as a whole ❤
I hope you can see the vision though. It was necessary
This video is so memeable yet so accurate
When comparing Dune to other sci-fi franchises like Star Wars and Marvel and how dune goes for a more serious high brow instead of comic and inviting identity also comes from the studios their coming from. Where Marvel and Star Wars come from Disney who focus sooo much on younger audiences or families and Warner Bros has a more grown up personality within itself so they can definitely take the risks that come with marketing and even making more serious movies targeted to a specific audience instead of such a. Broad one because their brand is not and hasn’t been devoted to appealing to younger audiences like disney
It’s kinda like dune is thinking the arts will bring the charts whereas disney is making it for the charts and sometimes forgetting the arts
lol, the pee thing was a dismissive joke in the movie about the Water of Life, it's actually the worm's bile, which is possibly worse. 😅 Anywho, your energy is awesome, this was great.
embryo baby is supposed to be creeping you out
While I am happy that non-book readers enjoy it, there's a lot of important stuff left out that kinda messed up Pt2 for me.
I'm hoping Denis can stick the landing with Messiah, but jumping straight to adult Alia (ATJ) is gonna be interesting if they are going to age everyone else up. It's a twelve year time skip in the books (plus the 3 years they cut out) but Alia grows at double speed until puberty.
That was not the plot, that was the whole story😭 GREAT VIDEO!
5:58 She’s the Emperors daughter, so a princess, the title Empresses is used for a sovereign female monarch with the rank Empress or the wife/mother/widow of an Emperor/Sovereign Empress
Somebody discovered Quinn's Idea's! Excellent breakdown
i would've never watched dune if it weren't for you and this video and now i looove it 🥰
love these longer videos Trin!! please make more long form content and I love hearing your personal opinions about celebrities, PR, random stuff etc keep it up!!!!
I live for Trin’s whiteboard summaries
TRIN THIS IS WHY YOU ARE THE BEST MOVIE COMMENTATOR 😂 YOU'RE SO REAL AND U STAY TRUE TO UR OPINIONS.
I love this video. It's clear that you had so much fun doing it haha
New sub! That story breakdown on a whiteboard was kick ass! I love the dune books and that visual delivery is going to be super helpful for new dune fans. Well done!
this whole recap you're doing of the 2 movies is amazing lol, I'm definitely subbing, please analyze more of my favorite movies
Love coming home to a dune vid by trin after just seeing the movie, sm better than the first I was actually invested this time and the cast is hreat
i love how you explain everything. subbed
you're so well spoken and well researched, the best film channel!!
4:14 as a bisexual who has a very high standard for men- and didn’t like his look as Elvis(I just don’t like Elvis) when I saw him in the movie I full on said “put him back in Elvis” I was actually fearing for my life 😭
The fear made me attracted to him tbh. I was like waaait a minute when he was first on screen. I loved the weird animal roar head twist he did during his birthday "fight" scene. Where the supposed last remaining Atreides men were drugged (except the one doctor guy).
this was an amazing and informative video, thank you trin!
Thank you for being a voice for a very complex, dense, decades-old IP with lots of history, politics, economics, dialogue, etc. when in the past 10 year all they want to see are laser beams, superhero stunts and explosions in 90ish minutes. Now I like the MCU and I like Infinity War, but we can have movies and stories that are adjacent to their narratives with characters and worlds of greater depth at 2:30+ runtimes and plot points that aren't necessitated by what limb or body part one protaganist may cut off the antagonist.
So thankful for this video since i was able to watch dune 1 and 2 with a clear idea and appreciation of what was going on
LET’S GO! I caught this video immediately after leaving the movie theater
Everyone’s talking about the intro… but the ending 😭😭
And Austin 🧍🏼
"And Austin" *killed me* 😂
this intro 😭😭
seeing trin upload makes my day
In my 40s and grew up with the David Lynch film and only read the first book. Everything that Denis has been able to do with such dense material is nothing short of miraculous.
(Longtime viewer, first time commenting! I have loved your videos forever!!) thank you so much!! My husband is so excited for this movie, but the first part was just so confusing and uninteresting to me, so I am so grateful for your simple and enthusiastic explanation! Please keep it up for the girlies who married cinephiles!!
That summary was very helpful!
Bruh that jump scare when the video starts
how did you know i was looking for a video to watch 😭😭
girl your summary of the movies, I live💀💀
Director of Photography Grieg Fraser 🎥 ❤!!!!
This is a great video. I loved your whiteboard plot recap
Embryo gave me Blonde vibes but it was a creative way to avoid having a 1-3 yr old having full blown adult conversations. Also pls pls pls I would love a video of you watching the OG dune. 🙏🙏🙏
Timothee was mewing since he was in the womb to develop that Atreides jawline and prepare for this role.
Thank you for making a point about why this franchise will succeed now and long into the future - and it's because of all the talent and participants in making this with such passion and attention to detail.
Trin's frantic explanation of Dune is everything I didn't know I needed
this is the most brilliant movie breakdown i need trin to talk abt dune all the time
Awesome breakdown. Maybe the best one out there.
i’m litt so proud of denis bc dude is from my hometown of like 12 000 people 😭 like his family lives like 10 min away from my house
watched dune part 1 and 2 today so I could fully appreciate this video 🥰🥰
intro made me laugh so hard, this was so great !!
I haven't seen the first of these Dunes yet.
I've seen the 80's Dune movie, which I love, so I need to see the new Dunes!
There were a lot of people who loved the first dune movie.
ITS TRIN 👑✨ my day is made ❤️
love the way you highlighted how dune show and dont tell. trin i say this once i say this again, you should watch succession
Of course you have the bucket Trin 😂
I love how chaotic your recap is for a second I thought I turned on double speed lol
I was to watch this until I saw the second one with my mom! Now I’m watching this video right after the movie! Been looking forward to it!
VILL-UH-NUEVAY 😭😭 I can't believe it every time I hear someone say it like that
I loooooooooove Dune & Dune 2!!! It’s so exciting to finally feel satisfied in a film again! It’s been too damn long! I can’t wait to Part 3 and the rest of the lore!!! 🙌🏽😆💖
That whiteboard recap was actually good and explained some of the Emperor and his house stuff
Yep, I’m excited for part 3. And I’m gonna be reading the books. I’ve heard that once Paul has a Son the story starts to get very strange. I’d like to read about it.
