There's a recent argument on games becoming more ugly and turns out a lot of complains come from women. They don't play games to be ugly, they want to be a beautiful woman in a game, that's a fantasy, just like men wanting to play muscular dudes. Which is why in MMOs like FF14 and Lost Ark, female characters and sexy costumes are extremely popular with female players. Diaphone's argument is actually very sound and logical.

I generally appreciate variety in a roster, so you never wanna see the same bodytypes for every single character (IE always muscular dudes and slim women in their 20-30s). I have nothing against that archetype, which I think is the part some people miss, just when it becomes a homogenous trait. It's cool when you see characters that break out of that norm. Marissa in SF6, Goldlewis in Strive, etc.

It's great because it's a way for everyone to showcase ideas that aren't quite deep or substantial enough for a full video. Or a way to explore a topic that could warrant a video of its own, like Sajam's. And the cheesy slideshows and contest format add to the entertainment factor, as does the banter between the guests.
Sajam is 100% correct, audio is so important and I've had that exact experience constantly, if I wear a street fighter shirt in public people will imitate the sounds at me lol. Hakan missing grabs and going SERIOUSLY?! is also etched into my brain.
Look at how many voicelines people meme up from Marvel Vs Capcom as proof. Even other stuff like Guilty Gear/KOF/SF has people going hype when someone goes Dragon Install, Terry pulling off a Buster Wolf or Akuma doing a Raging Demon.
Actually, half the reason TF2 stood the test of time when it comes to it's iconic status is how memorable all the voicelines are. The thousand of memes spawned from the Meet The Team videos or domination lines are proof of that.

regarding sajams voice line presentation; i was at a smash tournament (battle of bc 4) when ultimate top 8 was happening. it was the first match of top 8 and the audio was out. one of the players, kome, mains shulk, and he has a move where he gets a powerup depending on which version he picks. he says the powerup as he picks it, so since the audio was out, i started screaming the monado names out loud, and everyone in the crowd follows. it was so good that even when the audio was back for the subsequent matches, we all still screamed the monados every time kome switched. im pretty sure it got picked up by the commentator mics. best moment of my offline tournament experiences by far

I am 30 seconds into the video and as soon as I heard the premise I burst out laughing. I was not expecting powerpoint presentations but I'm so ready to learn!
The sound design one really feels revelatory, even if it's saying something very simple. Like, it's a truth so self-evident when you play you don't even think about it, and then when you don't think you may even end up forgetting it when it really matters. Fighting games and strong one-liners belong together- you gotta make it snappy and ear-wormy so that when players tensions run high, you will have them hear these lines and remember them automatically, no matter whether they got mega-mad from losing or euphoric from winning.
My favorite presentation was definitely from Sajam. The voice lines and noises that characters make add so much depth and enjoyment. My fav noises are from Alpha Zangief. The heavy punch DAAAAAWWW noise specifically.

This was a fun and unique concept for a video! While I agree with Diaphone full heartedly, I think the best way to get women onto the FGC scene is to have less coombait female characters. Loved his ideas for females in that realm, like the granny or mother of an infant/toddler characters. They'd be female, but not someone men will immediately go "sexy lady step on me mommy!".
I'm not even halfway into the video and I just wanted to say this is such a great idea. This makes your personalities shine and offers something unique, fun and even informational at times.

There are so many fun voice lines in fighting games it's ridiculous 😆 Growing up with Super SF4 I always loved Cody's "Get out of my Face" or Dudley's "The End" Zangeif's "Ultimate Atomic Buster" The list goes on. Here's to hoping we get plenty more fun voice lines in the coming years.

Gotta agree with Sajam tbh, noises and voice lines are quite important to characters. I mean this is something that applies to most games imo. As a long-time LoL player I'll use it as an example. I think every Irelia main has heard "Remember the Placidium!" thousands of times before. Sometimes the voice lines add so much to a character. Like when Nasus (essentially League's Anubis) says "The cycle of life and death continues. We will live, they will die." Or when Twitch (a smelly anthropomorphic rat) says "Never trust any liquid you can SEE through". Veigar (a tiny "evil" mage) yelling "Is that a short joke!?", or "remember when the tables have turned, I will show you NO MERCY!". Of course everyone's favorite, Lulu saying "That tasted purple." and to top it off the best unintentional interaction in the game. When Jax (someone who uses a lamp post, just so they don't win too much) says "imagine if I had a real weapon." and Master Yi (a swordmaster) says "My sword, is yours." All I'm trying to say is, Sajam is 100% right. And Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2 is peak.

Diaphone saying we need more women in the FGC is absolutely correct. However, he is wrong in thinking that more female characters = more female players. He is implying, at least that's how I understood it, that women tend to indentify with the female characters in the games. If that is true, than the inverse should apply to men playing the games. But it doesn't, as the popularity rankings showed. Female characters are more popular. But why is that? The answer lies in something called the Proteus effect. It's too complex to explain right here, but basically, it means that people change their behavior and expectations based on the virtual avatar they are controlling. We get more women into the FGC but being more welcoming and supportive of them, not by adding more female characters. Women will play which ever character they like, male, female or otherwise. And yes, I am aware that I am over-analyzing a little fun meme project.

This was a fun and unique concept for a video! While I agree with Diaphone full heartedly, I think the best way to get women onto the FGC scene is to have less coombait female characters.
Loved his ideas for females in that realm, like the granny or mother of an infant/toddler characters. They'd be female, but not someone men will immediately go "sexy lady step on me mommy!".
I'm not even halfway into the video and I just wanted to say this is such a great idea. This makes your personalities shine and offers something unique, fun and even informational at times.
Thank you for making actually innovative content in the FGC. Imo this video deserves a million views but just because it did not this time don't let that detract you please. A culmination of hard work is what eventually leads to success

There are so many fun voice lines in fighting games it's ridiculous 😆 Growing up with Super SF4 I always loved Cody's "Get out of my Face" or Dudley's "The End" Zangeif's "Ultimate Atomic Buster" The list goes on. Here's to hoping we get plenty more fun voice lines in the coming years.

Gotta agree with Sajam tbh, noises and voice lines are quite important to characters.
I mean this is something that applies to most games imo. As a long-time LoL player I'll use it as an example.
I think every Irelia main has heard "Remember the Placidium!" thousands of times before.
Sometimes the voice lines add so much to a character. Like when Nasus (essentially League's Anubis) says "The cycle of life and death continues. We will live, they will die." Or when Twitch (a smelly anthropomorphic rat) says "Never trust any liquid you can SEE through". Veigar (a tiny "evil" mage) yelling "Is that a short joke!?", or "remember when the tables have turned, I will show you NO MERCY!".
Of course everyone's favorite, Lulu saying "That tasted purple." and to top it off the best unintentional interaction in the game.
When Jax (someone who uses a lamp post, just so they don't win too much) says "imagine if I had a real weapon." and Master Yi (a swordmaster) says "My sword, is yours."
All I'm trying to say is, Sajam is 100% right. And Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2 is peak.

Diaphone saying we need more women in the FGC is absolutely correct. However, he is wrong in thinking that more female characters = more female players. He is implying, at least that's how I understood it, that women tend to indentify with the female characters in the games. If that is true, than the inverse should apply to men playing the games. But it doesn't, as the popularity rankings showed. Female characters are more popular. But why is that?
The answer lies in something called the Proteus effect. It's too complex to explain right here, but basically, it means that people change their behavior and expectations based on the virtual avatar they are controlling.
We get more women into the FGC but being more welcoming and supportive of them, not by adding more female characters. Women will play which ever character they like, male, female or otherwise.
And yes, I am aware that I am over-analyzing a little fun meme project.
