    Hello MotorInc Fam!
    It's been fantastic to see the appreciation for the C3! I sit in the same boat - to drive, to be driven around in the C3 is incredibly admirable. I expect it to be hassle free to own too. It's a car I would like to see centre stage, on a pedestal, with a spotlight on it. Instead, it feels like it's tripping over itself in the wings. The value equation needed to be stronger - do check out the Nissan Magnite/Renault Kiger. Those of you who own a C3 or plan to get one - would love to know how you made that decision, like - 1) How far is the dealer? 2) Thoughts on the brand 3) What was a must have for you 4) What won you over? Thanks a ton in advance. I really hope the C3 gets the shot it deserves.
    Thanks + lou.

I really like the soft, calmness, editing & the story telling. U guys are really fascinating when it comes to seeing an automobile from very different perspectives. Be it in reviews, or Podcasts. Have done a test drive of the C3 Turbo. Coming from a Diesel Swift, the car really brought a smile... Nay, a grin on my face. I was harking about the cars prowess (engine response, the chassis, the comfort) all week to my colleagues at work. But, it was exactly those missing elements which have stopped me from picking it up. You can ask my nephew who's about to start working for you. Hope the C3 Aircross gets it alright

    The C3 is a great car that should be considered. Great value. The Shine variant addresses the biggest drawback of missing features. It is easily recommended for the good ride and handling and engines and great price. Now, they should add one more variant that has all the remaining premium features. It would be just great. Of course, they should follow up with a good service network.

      Fiat, they made great cars, Indians loved it, yet they didn't upgrade their portfolio and had to shut shop. Look at how many times they came to India. Same with GM. Sub par products from China is not going to work in India is it. They were highly inconsistent as a brand. Be it Opel, or Chevrolet. Next is Ford. They came with Good products and high maintenance costs. Even though eventually they kind of fixed it, they blew their money elsewhere. They build a plant that was not at all necessary for India. On top of that, it became clear that they can make more profit by selling few cars in the US than by selling a lot in India. So they left. We never got any real Fords or Chevrolets. Most were European models.

    Took a test drive of Ignis, Tiago, Altroz, i10 and c3 and c3 turbo. Felt really happy to drive the turbo, missing tacho or the lack of good (even basic needle meter) instrument cluster left me baffled. Other things i can easily live with. I'm still in the process of making a decision, but my heart is for the Turbo. Honestly, i don't like cars with electronics loaded to the brim. It's just waste to me, I want a fun and robust car which is reasonably priced.
    Also, I like the charm of spotting some cars in the endless sea of staid ones.

    3. Adding more value to the already launched cars

      Now imagine if it had LED lights, a proper instrument cluster and keyless entry, how many more people will the same car appeal to! The C3 is a solid car, held back by its own maker.
      Indians are also wary of cars that don't sell well. We have seen top carmakers from big countries come into India and go back, leaving the buyers in a lurch. So, we tend to distrust carmakers who can't seem to find sales numbers success in India. We worry they will also be forced to close down in India.

    The major phobia of people with any manufacturer new to Indian market is of the manufacturer exiting the market . Rear view mirror I had fixed by using old scorpions it is fitter well with this car..,
    But one major issue is half clutch issue ( engine bite position) is a suicidal tuning.., on a 45degree slope a maruthi 800 will shy you away.., slow speed gear change demand is disgusting.., you will need to be in your first gear to overcome speed breaker..,
    I live in Bangalore and service personnel have no answer to this issue .., literally stopped using the car inside city and i use it only for long drives where it is happy to drive .., to cross Bangalore City i always start as early as possible by 4am from Bangalore home..,
    I do not recommend buying this because of only one reason slow speed gear down demand.

    Great video. For Indians, cars are not just a machine to travel from A to B. They are strongly connected with it. Their cars are their pride, status symbol, a visual evidence of progress and lifestyle upgrade. Yeah, people across the world are like this but we have more of it perheps. And hence, any car which is not upgrading itself fast enough and keeping pace with time will not work here (You will find fanbase of polo and ecosport also in small numbers and that class is also driven by same emotions as described above. They just have different traits of their car to be proud of).

    Spot on and well put together. Being a Fiat fanatic (Stellantis) I was hoping Citroen would get it right and that would set the stage for a Fiat comeback. But the way they are going about it, they are not even in the game. Sure, the car has all the 'old' basics of a car right, be it the chassis, the powertrains, the practicality, but in India the aspirational aspects of a car matter more. Despite KIA, MG and even Hyundai being brands that were butt of all the jokes in the western markets they gave India importance and pampered Indians with features that made them succeed.
    The Western carmakers still continue to lack respect for Indian market with the exception of VW. Look at what Fiat has in terms of product line up in Brazil and its hard to believe that they lack the motivation to replicate that in India. Sad yet deserved failures.

      @@motorinc Can they? Yes. They have the time in their hands still considering the 'Citroen' brand is still new and isn't in the 'rubbished' or 'to be Ignored' list.
      Will they? I have doubts. Stellantis I feel is so busy in their EV transition push abroad that they do not have the resources to capitalise even with what they have for an India specific push. They have already missed some opportunities:
      1. They did not launch the C3 with a fully loaded variant
      2. They did not create a sporty 'GT', 'Sport' variant of the Turbo. Come on! A newly launched brand would have altleast tried to appeal to the youth and fill the void created by the Polo TSI pull out?
      3. The electric C3 loses out against the Tigor and Tiago EVs. Atleast numbers create a perception as such.
      4. Where is the marketing push for Citroen products? Its Fiat history repeating itself. I have seen only 3 Citroen C3s on the road till date. When you tell people about Citroen you get funny 'What's that?' looks.
      5. Stellantis use two different Diesel engines of the same capacity for cars that compete in the same category. Wouldn't it be great to have the supposedly better Citroen diesel in the Compass or the Meridian. I can understand its not that easy, but come on, it should have been on the agenda for the 'not so far away' future.

The market needs variety to mature and not just a few 'Asian only' brands dominating.

    Honda is another one of these manufacturers! The BRV was such a flop here. But I am sure if they launched the facelifted version, the N7X model, it would have been a runway success. I am an owner of a C3 turbo, what a car to drive love it, it's a fantastic car with an awesome engine, yes it is a new brand so it will take time for the brand to grow in india as it will take time for Indians to build some trust especially when this car comes from a new brand with very less features, although they have introduced C3 shine with more features so yes they are improving, but it will take time, although a car enthusiast like me will love the C3 turbo, fantastic car to drive, also they are expected to bring a 6 speed torque converter later this year, they should have brought C3 shine and torque converter at the very beginning rather bringing it in phases, but let's see what happens, all the best to Citroen india.......

    Would disagree with this video. For the longest time I was feeling the same - Citroen has slightly missed the boat by not having a "top-end" variant. But I recently test drove the C3 Turbo and the eC3 and both of them seem like really good cars put together with a lot of thought.
    If Indians really cared about the stuff you are suggesting, the Magnite and Kiger would sell even more, but I think what matters (and should matter) is being comfortable in the city, given our bad roads. It's being able to feel safe. Is being able to drive around with ample power at hand. I love the touchscreen (which, sadly, even the Nexon misses - which they are correcting soon), and at 13 lakh rupees, there is simply no better electric alternative.
    It's a nice, peppy, fun, small car - perfect for Indian roads. LED headlamps are not at all a dealbreaker as you are making out to be, it just sounds shallow.

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  Год назад

      Happy to hear that! And we admire the C3 too. Just look at a comment from Nikhil - such a mature shopper. For him, the C3 is it. But, that is a minority. To get mass adoption it has to appeal to the masses first, after which they can discover the beauty of the machine. Hope that makes sense.

    • @Cla55icG00se
      @Cla55icG00se Год назад +1

      Indians DO care about the stuff the video is suggesting. That is why Kiger and Magnite are one of the best sellers for their brands. That is why Tata Nano failed. Putting tags like "build to a cost" and "for budget buyers" with the car is a sure formula for low sales in Bharat. Which Citroen did when the release interviews happened (Videos are on youtube). So whoever is buying it (I am sure there are 30-40 people in each city), will mostly go for the cheapest version and negotiate a lot. I live in bangalore and I have not seen a single shine/turbo variant on the road. 2 C3s I have seen in last 7 months were the base variant and were driven by 60+ years old people (at least they looked like 60+).
      Funnily enough my office is just above Stellantis office. All I see are 4 C5 Aircross parked in their parking lot. Even their own people dont drive C3s LOL. Jokes aside, I hope they find success. Always saying about "Best suspension" will only take you so far. The engine is also not best in class and "sporty" (I didnt feel the "excitement" other reviews and some people in the comments mentioned and 12 seconds to 100 is not sporty). Gearbox is lame. If other brands replace wood for suspension tomorrow, they will surely find instant success.
      Now that the latin NCAP results are out with ZERO stars for Brazilian model (Unlike others I doubt Indian model is better), more people will be turning away. And yes I know latin NCAP is very strict. Citroen India got their definition of "value" wrong. 10 Lakh maybe cheap/value for citroen, but for most of Bharat, its not. 10 lakh is a lot for average indian car buyers and they want to feel like they have spent that much on a car. So does their family. Citroen India lead was talking about how this is targeting young 19-28 year old people. Sadly for them its not europe, most 19-28 Indians cannot afford 10 Lakh rupees car. Those who can, they are well off anyways and they dont want the word "budget car" associated with their ride. This is what I see. They will just sell like 300-400 cars on a good month. Maybe that is what they are after.
      And yes, people will definitely buy the C3, but sadly owners will only remain in the comment section and very hard to find one IRL.

    • @deepaksrinivasmondal
      @deepaksrinivasmondal Год назад

      @@Cla55icG00se I actually agree with everything you have said. What I was talking about was the eC3. I am in Bangalore too, and I have seen some eC3s going around (though I have seen way more Comets, and no questions about the Tata.evs). I haven't seen the interviews, but yes, saying "built for budget buyers" will never work in India. And I got to know about the Latin NCAP after I had written this comment, and I will never, ever recommend something that has 0 stars to anyone. So, yes, you are right.

    Confused strategy. The rare Citroen India dealers are in urban areas, yet no automatic with such good engines. the C3 (and its electric cousin eC3) should have been positioned as the comfortable urban car. The C3 makes you feel all over that it is designed to be cheap, yet the electric version is priced at a solid premium to its main rival.
    Somebody needs to take Citroen India/ Stellantis global team through the story of Tata Nano. A great car, killed by the fact that the maker positioned it as the cheapest car in the world, or the one lac rupee car. When the retail price after the initial offer was closer to 2 lacs. A car, even in the nano category, is still an aspirational product in India. Who wants to buy a car with their neighbours, friends and relatives thinking - Oh, poor guy could not afford a better car! Had it been marketed as the stylish small car for Indian cities yet strong enough to take on the town roads... Tata Motors might have become the largest carmaker in India! By now, we would have an electric nano, perfect for scooting around the neighbourhood, daily or weekend chores, short city commutes etc.
    That's the scale of the opportunity if you "get" the Indian consumer. Citroen needs a course correction, very quickly. We are not kind to the cars that fail initially and then try to recover. Go ask Honda about the Jazz story in India.

    I'm from Singapore, and am a Citroen fan. I think the mistake is comparing the success of the Korean and Japanese carmakers with Citroen - they come from intrinsically different perspectives. While an Asian carmaker is likely to go all out to woo a customer in a conventional manner with power snd lots of equipment, the French, and Citroen in particular, is going to be different. Instead, comfort and the composure suspension is going to be the stand out quality of a Citroen. And once a customer has experienced this unique aspect of Citroen ownership, all other cars, no matter how powerful or well-equipped are going to feel crude by comparison.

    Our Fascination with cars is young but it's also true that it is tough to encourage us or convince us for being potential buyers. Now of course Citroen really is not that effective and functional in actual circumstances like the Kia, but Hyundai formed a base for Seltos. If the product makes the brand then once more it's stuck between the diversion of localization
    which these foreign brands don't grasp immediately. As far as design is concerned, Whether you find a flyer on the ground in a subway station or see a clever social media post on Instagram, great design can be found everywhere we turn. C3 surely is the design inspiration. It's both subjective and objective, and surely hard to convince the neighbor and people. In opposition to the notion of maximizing utility and in consideration of human emotion for a car, the understanding of any decision had to account not just for the financial consequences but for the emotional ones, too. And I agree Citroen would have done more to C3.
    As far as their formula for India is concerned, they first need to hand out changes in government regulations, altering the country's economy, relative prices, and market dynamics therefore it becomes difficult to adopt strategic planning to sustain with the rivals, especially with Maruti and Hyundai.
    Good Luck

      Thank you for the message! We seem to have crossed a tipping point as far as personal mobility is concerned… if they get much more expensive, then the accessibility of four wheelers will be reduced. And the trend reversed. It’s already seeing some hiccups.

    In 2019 on their 100th anniversary Citroen claimed to sell 1 million vehicles globally. Unfortunately 825,000 were sold in France and 114,000 were sold in China of all places? Their global sales have in fact been declining for a very long time. Why? Poor quality control, poor reliability, expensive maintenance and repairs out of warranty.

    According to Citreon they want to localize their operations, hence if they arent making a certain car component in India, they arent going to sell cars with it.

    They really need to add tachometer from c3 Aircross atleast as an accessory. Atleast it will complete the overall package.

    I am going to buy a car very soon and I was seriously looking at the C3 as an option. However the feel variant doesnt justify its incremental price over the live variant and the live variant doesnt get central locking and rear power windows, 2 things I am not comfortable retro- fitting. Also the recently launched shine variant is priced so stupidly I dont know who will buy that over the turbo variant.

      Yes I have a Citroen dealer near me, but right now I am just waiting for hyundai ai3 and upcoming nexon base variant, since punch is underpowered. I will compare the C3 with them when they are launched, so I am not rejecting C3 completely.

    I have driven and tested many cars in the past. But none gave me the satisfaction of owning my Citroen eC3. I had 02 Hyundai cars in the past. And Tata, Renault and Maruti in the family and with friends. They might be good in features. But the driving comfort and feel at this e/c3 price range, for me was a deal breaker. I have tried magnite and kiger both AMT and CVT transmission which simply was garbage when compared to eC3 drive quality. Brezza was good but didn't perform this well. Grand vitara with its 3 cylinder was not ideal with vibrations at low revs or while the engine started after the electric motor in the hybrid. In eC3 acceleration was well calibrated that the pull was gradual till 25 km/h, ideal for lady drivers and city traffic. Past which it just performs like anything. On rough roads, it feels like gliding which even Nexon couldn't match (my brother owns one). And it climbs effortlessly. Build quality is solid, you could feel it. Especially when compared to kiger and magnite. Maruti !! I might not have to explain, you know better.
    Citroen might lack in few features, for those who could look beyond that and considering that they are just new in the Indian market. Note It is a 100 year old company with many patents to their name. You could feel the brand quality.
    Though I was skeptical of the low spec of the motor when compared to tata EVs and it's profile. In the real-world it just performs so perfectly. And has better claimed/real-world range and decent ground clearance.
    If you are looking for great drive quality, good build quality, a premium sales & service experience. I will recommend eC3 at its price range.
