Thanks for the 1 hour therapy session. 😅 I bought my first car (WagonR) in 2015. I didn't even know how to drive a car, so during the test drive it was sales consultant who drove the car and I was sitting on the passenger seat. I knew nothing about the cars or engines. I just like the dashboard and practicality of wagonr, decided to book it. Its been 9 + years now, still going great. Clocked around 70k kms. Bought Honda City last year, still using WagonR as secondary car for local commutes. Although I didn't do much research, I could relate to everything discussed in this video. Love you @motorinc
Being an avid rider and driver for over 15 years now, most of my friend’s have reached out to me to help them out buying their first car or first bike, the one thing I have noticed is that is the biggest constraint for them is the budget. Everyone isn’t able to stretch that 1-2 Lakhs and for them it is huge money specially considering that 1-2 Lakhs money you can end up putting huge amount of petrol over the years. Second thing I have seen is, most of them already have their eyes set on a particular vehicle based on their budget and they just need a sort of validation from us to give them confidence on the choice they are about to make. Over the years I’ve seen manufacturers coming up with great cars. And I’ve been telling people to go for a test drive and see which car or bike they connect with the most. Engine, transmission, comfort/suspension, safety features for me come as the top 3/4 things that I always prefer and comes the shiny stuff in terms of connected car tech and other features etc. This was a great video and is definitely something I will be referring to my friends moving ahead. Waiting for it to be available for all on RUclips before I can share it in my WhatsApp groups.
@@motorinc which car would you recommend for a person of the age of 65, long term use atleast 10 years, mostly city use and upgrading from Maruti 800.Budget around 7.5 till 8 lakhs. Some short listed cars ignis Zeta ( hopefully will be getting a good offer on this otherwise have to consider delta), Swift base, Baleno base( if price is not increased).
I bought a petrol hatchback because I looked at my use case and that looked best. Primarily long drives with a bunch of luggage, plus me needing as much performance and not liking CNG due to queues, gas scent etc. Also with simple petrol engine, less of a chance of things breaking - as I prize reliability and don't like service center visits. 4 years and almost 50000km later, I am a happy guy. Of course I have spent a good amount of money in petrol, but thankfully my raises have been decent enough for me to afford that.
On the discussion on safety, I bought my first car in 2019 after becoming a CA - The Tata Nexon. In 2021, we (5 people all family) were coming back from Shirdi to Mumbai and we were on the Ahmednagar Kalyan road which is a two lane road with no dividers in between and we were travelling between 70-80kph in our lane..A Bolero pick up truck doing approx the same speed came in to our lane and crashed into us because the driver dozed off while driving it seems..Our entire right side of the car was smashed but nothing inside the cabin…My Maama ji who was driving the car was able to get out of the car on his own and no one in our car was severely injured…You may say that car which gives control to the driver should be prioritised over passive safety but there are situations where the driver is just helpless if he is in a situation like this and you need a car with good passive safety to atleast give a chance of survival. Our family always recommends Tata’s products now just because the Indian market is an oligopoly, No two cars in the same segment are priced far apart so it is the manufacturers choice where he wants to allocate his cost and I would chose a car with better safety even though fit and finish is not up to the mark today
Funny, because back when I became a CS I bought my first car and have a similar story as well. I need a big car because of my height (6'6") so I bought a XUV500. Similarly I had a crash and only survived due to the build quality of the car. Years later I have a XUV700. Now I only consider Mahindra and Tata in cars. Recently I got a Tata Punch EV for the city, love it.
@@akshayagarwal129 Not always accidents happen due to our fault. Many times people just do wrong side driving and all the unpredictable things. I've even faced a fortuner jumping small median
@@yellowflash511 Waiting for Tata and Mahindra's hybrid cars. Under 10 lakhs with least features But same Car safety and low running cost. And then I am happy 😁
One of my friend worked in sales for car dealerships and he mentioned that you could receive discounts from the dealership if you buy a previous year’s model in the new year. There might not be highly customizable options available for it but if you buy the model as is, you could get some pretty good discounts for taking it off their hands. - When we bought our first car in 2019, we did this. Got a 2018 model from Maruti which coincidentally happened to be in the exact spec we wanted and the showroom gave us a 10% discount! It’s one of my core strategies now. I will always keep an eye out on previous year’s models if they have them and bargain a good discount. - For a first time car buyer, the options and frills aren’t that critical so if someone is willing to make some adjustments, you could find some pretty sweet deals which make the purchase that much more worthwhile.
Rear wiper and washer, rear defogger stuff like these should be standard across variants remove the infotainment system (or give a cheap infotainment system) to keep the cost the same but give this basic safety features. Manufacturer are prioritising sunroof. Therefore the mid specs has sunroof but no rear wiper/ washer
I like it in Magnite. Nissan give rear adjustable head rest, washer wiper. i20 sportz gives wireless charging and stuff and no rear washer wiper. I don't understand this. Washer wiper is more practical, safer. Sunroof things is crazy. Manufacturer may give you sunroof and keep engine as option in coming days. It's that crazy. Sub 4 m getting panaromic. Huh
My priorities list goes like this: 1. Suspension 2. Engine Responsiveness 3. Steering Feel 4. Crash Safety 5. The basic feature set that Kartikayee mentioned: Adjustable Head Rests, Rear Wiper, Steering and Seat Adjustment and then for a new driver: hill hold assist and Android Auto for the excellent navigation.
@@jayantsharma2669 I use a i20 n line; in Bengaluru without AC, I get around 10kmpl (driving with a light foot), with AC the max I've gotten in the city is around 9kmpl (when the roads are relatively free, but I'd expect somewhere around 8 on most days). If you want to enjoy the few empty roads or the paddle shifters/sport mode, that number goes down quickly. On highways you can get 15-18kmpl easily though.
When I watch other automotive channels for research I get a version of opinion that the Manufacturer PR team has come out with and the channel is the mouthpiece. This is why I love MotorInc. You share an honest opinion behind which you stand. ❤
I am a first time buyer. Every minute spent listening was worth its weight in gold. I have thoroughly enjoyed 3 episodes specifically, in this particular order. 1. S2E3 (How to buy your first ever car) 2. S1E8 (You can afford it) 3. S2E1 (How to run in your new car/bike) This is what I have wanted from motoring journalism. You have helped me a long way in cementing my purchase. Thanks a lot, guys! ❤
I bought my first (and only) car in 2017. It was a Baleno. I didn't have any idea about cars then. Bought the Baleno just because of looks and Maruti's peace of mind ownership experience. Feels good to be vindicated today. Could relate to many points Kartik was saying. Well done Sir!
I also bought Baleno Alpha Petrol in Aug 2017 without knowledge abt cars.. fortunately, full peace of mind till now..but my maximum run is on highways around 600km(one side) with my max speed 90kmph & as it didn't perform well in ncap(in safety), I'm stuck in doubt that I made a good choice or not?
@@vinayv9445 Hey Vinay, as u heard safety comes in parts: 1. Active & 2. Passive... U can't control the passive one cause it's from manufacturing side, but what u can control is 1st one, so try to as confident as possible, cause NCAP or anything tests all the vehicle withing a given range of speed which goes up to 64 kmph, and as u said it's average 90 in ur case, so if in any situation something wrong happens with you then definitely those ratings is not gonna save you from the impact, but confidence in ACTIVE safety and ofcourse if the basics on the car is ticked off, survival chance increases by a lot... Does that mean, we shouldn't depend on the rankings definitely not, The rankings are there to provide a general idea about how that car is made to protect you in initial stages, so yeah consider them as your understanding of the product but not a super deciding factor. I hope this answers your doubt...
I used to be a sales person in various car showrooms and I've dealt with so many first time buyers... it's amazing how their mind and thought process works... and to convince/ help them to buy was so fulfilling i miss that feeling....
I resonate with this video, I went for TAIGUN 1.0MT Highline , driven 35000km till now, fully satisfied. Driven my Fluidic Verna diesel for 2,00,000km now it is my secondary car. still love it due to its diesel engine. My priorities were 1. Solid built quality and safety 2. Solid engine which should provide whenever demanded. engine should not be dull, i was finding a versatile engine which can provide good fuel efficiency whenever driven sensibly, and it should give good power whenever you rev it. 3. Solid stiff suspension which gives huge confidence on high speeds 4. Good break bite and confidence in breaking , which i missed on my previous car Verna Fludic 4. It shouldn't have rubbish features like ADAS but should have good infotainment , fog lamps , reverse camera , alloy wheels 5. I love manual so went for manual transmission 6. I do not follow herd mentality , highest selling car can not be your ideal car , one should consider car as per the needs. What I missed is Cruise control
By God the best ThisConnect episode of all the great videos. Have seen numerous nonsense videos on YT tagged "Don't buy before you watch this" and I always avoid any video which has this clickbait text. 😅😅 This is the video that truly justifies the sentence - Don't buy before you watch this... This is will be very helpful for everyone, even for the know it all guy... Thanks MotorInc 🙏🏼
First car in my family was maruti 800 and then we got wagon r in 2011. Clocked over 1.5 lakhs kms, i clocked almost 50k kms in last 4yrs since i learned to drive Amazing car with 900cc it's still gives me enough performance to maintain 100 kmph on highways for long duration I took it with me from gujrat to vaishnodevi with 4 more family members and it never let me down
1. Thoroughly enjoyed the video as someone who went through this process recently . Felt like a special treat on sunday morning immediately after a 100km pleasure drive on wonderful Hyderabad ORR on sunday morning in my new honda Elevate CVT 2. Please make shorts for 1) heart vs brain & emotional part 2) engine responsive part of video. Wanna share with someone. 3. Disagree with your view on the importance of passive safety. I know you probably won't change your mind, but still putting a couple of arguments ahead, a) When you crash, you won't crash at 120kmph but you will try and brake, then crash at ~60-80 may be. A vehicle with a better crash test rating will likely give you a better chance of survival. b) We are humans, so we will make mistakes, other people on roads make mistakes. So having better passive safety does play a role. 4. My list of priorities when I bought in that order, are, a. Reliability and ease of ownership b. Design and build quality (interior & exterior in that order) c. Passive safety d. creature comforts e.Performance
Hullo Sudhakar, awesome to have your take. We don’t have to agree on everything. But, being able to discuss it and give each other a listen - awesome! Wish you awesome travels!
As much as I appreciate Shumi coming out with all the technicalities and nitty-gritty (I'd appreciate if you tell me what the plural for that is) I love how Kartik comes back with a soulful point bringing nostalgia to the table. His inputs feel like a cool breeze on the beach.❤
Thank you for the kind words @atisarcastic. Glad you enjoyed. As for the plural, we're not sure if it's grammatically correct, but commonly we just say 'nitty-gritties'.
36:31 talking about fitting aftermarket parts, generally insurance companies reject your claim and void insurance altogether if something aftermarket was installed. Case in point, Mahindra's car was on fire a couple of weeks ago and the claim was rejected because the owner had a reverse camera installed by the dealer itself, but it wasn't there by default.
Motorcycle culture primarily in india has 2 extreme ends to it 1.) over speeding , spiked colored hairs , r15 mt15 duke 125,200 (all dukes ) rash driving , custom exhaust and stunts . Nuisance on the roads 2.) the uncle gang with splendors ,platina extreme mileage bikes . No moderation , lot of taxes on two wheelers , scarcity of good options in the middle . Bikes here are more utilitarian then for fun Wish taxes on two wheelers were not so exorbitant and we get kore options and more brands that are present in most cities .
What a fantastic conversation. I have driving experience of 24 years, just bought my 5th car, Citroen c3 shine which is my first new car and I still throughly enjoyed your conversation which made me further assured that I have made the right decision. Keep up the good work, cheers!!!
The video was extremely helpful and precisely met my needs. As a first-time car buyer, I'm learning as I go through the process of making my initial purchase. Priorities (in order of importance): - Lively, enjoyable engine - Efficient controls - Basic safety features Main Usage: - Commuting to the office, covering about 60 kilometers on Mumbai roads. @@motorinc : I’ve set a budget between 5 to 10 lakh. It took me a while to understand what you meant by a “pivot car” 😅. I’d really like to get something like a Polo-preferably a hatchback or a sub-4-meter SUV. Apologies if this seems a bit confusing.

I am planning to buy my first car next year. My requirements is mostly for family use, i wont be using the car daily but ocassionally, need good comfort, good driving experience. From my research and my logical decision ive narrowed my pick down to (80%) citreon C3 aircross, but only thing is that it has 3 cyl engine.
I learnt riding and driving in my teens in the late 1990s. I started with bikes. My Suzuki Samurai made me understand the basics of how a vehicle works as a machine. And more importantly, how to conduct myself on the road - how to overtake, how to join a main road from a side lane and so on. Later I moved to learning how to drive a car. My first car was a second hand Maruti Zen. After several mistakes and scratches and dents and scrapes 🤕, I became what you could consider a sensible rider and driver. I recommend this process to everyone who wants to make the most as a motorist.
I have been a huge fan of this series for some time now. Last week I met with a rather bad accident on my motorcycle while cornering which led to fractures and surgery. Three months of complete bed rest and an end to a long and fun motorcycling journey of over two lakh kilometres. I would definitely still tune in to the channel just for the love these people share for the machines, but it does hurt that I’ll be looking in from outside. Guess I’m a full time cager now. Thanks guys for all the brilliant content. Keep em coming. Might need a distraction now more than ever. ❤
This is a conversation about buying a first car. Here are the key points: * Don't be nervous, buying a car is easier than ever before. * Consider a smaller car (hatchback or sub-4 meter SUV) for a new driver as it will be easier to maneuver and park. * It's okay to stretch your budget a little bit to get a car with features you'll want in a few years, like more space or power. * Reliable brands like Maruti, Toyota, and Honda are good choices for first-time car buyers. * Consider your needs (how much will you drive? what will you be using the car for?) before you decide between petrol, diesel, or electric. * Do your research before you buy a car. Read reviews, watch videos, and take test drives. * When evaluating a car, consider how it makes you feel as much as the specs on paper. * Choose a car that is responsive and feels controllable. * Avoid a car with a dull engine, you may get tired of it quickly.
Exactly last year, I purchased my first vehicle, that too a car, grand i10 nios. An emotional decision (obviously), as my family never had a car till I purchased. The only sad part is I never took a test drive of it. I only watched reviews and compared with the Maruti cars. I feel now it turned out to be a great decision. I learned how to drive with it and it fits my needs. As Shumi said, now I do have a clarity with what could be my next purchase. Totally resonated with the discussion. Have been motorinc subscriber since it's inception and now putting my first comment on this video. Thanks for all the content you created.
I used to listen to long videos with screen off with YT premium. But sadly I can’t with the members only videos. I guess background play is disabled :(
Loved the discussion about picking a car keeping in mind both safety and driving experience. My father and myself had the same discussion while we were thinking of whether to buy the seltos or the 1st gen Harrier when it came out. When I brought the discussion regarding the tata having 5 stars and seltos just managing to get 3 stars my dad said that he believes in active safety rather than what the crash tests show. And also the seltos gave us much better driving experience than the 1st gen Harrier. So we finally bought the seltos in 2020 November the 1.5 CVT variant. And it's been amazing till date
As a owner of 1.5 NA from Verna, test drive was fine but yeah after some time i thought i needed just a little bit more, and then i handed that car to my dad with around 40yrs of experience 😂, and he drove how i wanted that car to perform. Catch was that me as relatively new driver who learned from a Diesel engine switched gears under 2k rpm resulting in smooth jerkless shiftes with great mileage 17-18 in city, but my dad shifted all gears atleast 10-20kmph above the recommended speeds and around 2.2k rpm and stayed there and this same dull NA engine was flying off. Not that i didn't know how to drive in same fashion but i was so used to low end torque of duster at 1750rpm that it was just not clicking for me. Once i learned how to build power in a NA engine without worrying about jerky shifts or mileage, oh my god this thing felt so amazing to drive. I don't always drive spirituality like that because traffic wouldn't allow me but if i wanted, now i know how to get the satisfactory power out of it and I'm very happy with that "dull engine" because it can do both for me, mileage and thrill. Of course this is not as same as turbo but again, extra 2 lakhs on exshowroom and 2-3extra on loan and that black interior 🤢 not worth the money. Also i got the top model with ventilation on front seats and it has been a game changer!! And fun part the heated seats can be used in summers here and it'll give you a very warm fuzzy feeling and your aching back will thank you 😂❤
This video came at such a right time for me, as I'm planning to buy my first car by next month & booked the Baleno Alpha (top model) with AMT. All the criterias which were mentioned are more or less fulfilled by this car & this was a nice open & candid discussion to watch, which felt educative without too much jargon. Thank you guys :)
AMT is the worst automatic mate. For that price you can get a much better automatic transmission. AMT’s are fine till 10 lakhs but beyond that not worth it. Just a suggestion
If you can pls do a episode on maintenance of a bike/car just for newbies.. I bought my first bike it got dirty the other day(within 5 days of purchase😢 ) and my heart just broken.. I am water washing my bike now 😭.. pls help new riders like me

Fell into the safety trap, and sold our old manual Honda Jazz and bought a Tiago for my mom's use. the car is not fun to drive and the amt is so bad that whenever we drive, we put it on manual. The santro felt better but it wasn't as popular. Should just go with the gut once basic hygiene criteria are met, and the EMI point on stretching budgets makes sense as well!

Your next podcast should be on how the car/bike reviewing has changed and the influence you have or don't on the manufacturers/consumers.. coz it's about time some manufacturers took INDIA seriously. Sometimes I feel INDIAN consumers r taken for granted by some manufacturers and if there is any way that you and us together can remind them about the potential that exists here.!! Bikes and cars !!

Not really sure if it will fit but I've a request, I'd like to learn more about the practicality in terms of what to do in case of a crash or after a crash? I am planning for my first 🚗 car. After watching many videos in the YT, this video made much impact in improving my perspective of choosing cars. Thanks a lot MotorInc ❤. But there are things I'm still confused about. 1. Brands: Most Recommended VS Mostly avoided (Maruti, Toyota, Hyundai, etc..) VS (Nissan, renault etc..) WHY? Is that mean they are bad. Or any specific reasons to avoid some brands? 2. Comfort: Does seating comfort should be in the checklist. (ergonomics, some other like ventilated seats). Orelse any after market suggestions for longer and smoother rides. 3. Maintenance cost: when coming to service and operating costs of vehicle which brands can be considered valuable. please clarify me in the above sceneries.
About Bike culture and Riding, I remember a podcast of Shumi from PD. The group riding etiquette is improving. I myself have improved as a rider and now have better road sense and most of the riders are still evolving.
This video was amazing. I really liked the format where you folks were having casual conversation while covering all the doubts that would haunt the mind of any first time buyer
00:35:47 - The unsaid thing to consider is also that every feature (frivolous or otherwise) that is added to the vehicle is money that wasn't spent in improving the engine, or the build, or the basic level of engineering while the vehicle is being developed. Sure, platforming approaches can offset this to a certain degree, but usually, a car which prioritises features over the essentials will feel it, and is almost certainly inferior over a long enough time frame IMO.
If you can stretch for it, go ahead and buy the versatility. I do agree to that statement and did exactly that when I was deciding on my first car back in 2018. My budget was for i20 Asta diesel 1.4, 10.8🎉 something lakhs on road with extended warranty. Situation was If I pay 12.5 Lakhs (including some cash offers) I can get the verna ex, with the 1.6 Diesel. Yes, there was a phase for about 4-5 months where verna Diesel was only affered with 1.6. What was I missing compared to i20? Keyless entry, alloy wheels, projector headlights and a bigger screen for infotainment. Verna had all the basics covered, like seat height adjust, reverse camera (though feeding through a smaller screen) with adaptive guidelines, rear ac vents. So this almost 2 lakh rupee stretch made absolute sense and still does.
Just as an add on.I really appreciate this kind of Long videos. As one who drives to work 3 days a week, Mororinc adds to the joy of driving. Eventhough there are other RUclips channels, none can match this level of smooth interaction, vibe and Shumi's side jokes. Cheers
Thank you for this one guys! I am planning to buy a new car and was struggling with the idea of research! My primary concern was getting started, as to how should a good car feel like! And many of my questions posted for MotorInc were from that purview, you guys summed it all up and helped me greatly in structuring my thoughts around the research. Thank you for listening, and putting this up! Lots of love! ❤️❤️❤️
I truly agree with your comment on how safe and connect you feel when you drive car regardless of safety features. I learnt driving car for only 5 days or literally 2.5 Hrs and went for test drive for my first car. When I drive Taigun Automatic, I couln't belive how connected I felt, I touched 80kmph at Gurugram traffic with only 2.5 hrs of learning. It's been more then a year now and I am very happy with my first Car.
Rear defogger and wiper should be considered while giving out safety rating categories. in a country like India there is cold weather and heavy rainfalls. How is a sunroof given in second base to mid variants but not a rear defogger makes sense ?
This podcast is genuinely good. We have had many cars in our family for years, also I have been a sales consultant at NEXA thus telling from my experience 1. If you are buying an extended warranty don't even think of buying aftermarket electronic accessories like reverse parking camera. 2. Buying an extended warranty is a kinda contract where you are bound to service your vehicle at OEM workshops only, think over it. 3. Most of your needs can be met by a sedan, not everyone needs an suv, let alone the pseudo SUVs which are overgrown hatchbacks tbh. 4. I request the channel to make similar podcast for second time car buyers as well. Every car salesman is selling one line 'upgrade to suv' and people are falling for it.
The Ignis conundrum happened to our family as well - we considered that first as an alternate city car, had second thoughts about it (because grass looked greener elsewhere) and considered the Swift or Baleno (expensive for a compact car), S-Presso (too much of a drop), WagonR (had one before) and back to Ignis. Happy ending!
About suspension, Mahindra says they have made the rear suspension of XUV3X0 (and XUV700) comfortable while maintaining the stiffness. I haven't taken a test drive yet as the demo is not easily available on both these cars. Have you guys driven it? What's your take on their updates?
Hey Kartikeya What is your view on the suspension rubber buffers for a car with a soft suspension? Drove a XUV500 with those buffers and it felt less bouncy I don’t know if its just my mind playing games with me Please help Cheers!
Hey Motorinc family…love your work. I had purchased my first bike duke 390 MY 2019. 3years later I sold off that and now I own R15V3. I was too emotional at the time of selling my duke and downgrading to smaller bike. But what I have experienced in past year is an R15 is just amazing and thrilling bike….it comes down to how you use your bike. In future i will upgrade to bigger twin cylinder bike but I am not going to sell the R15 at all. I just love the way it rides and gives me the pleasure of riding.
Great Video! My first car was an EV. Given no road taxes..the economics of the top end variants of ICE like Creta, Seltos, Vitara cost the same or more VS the MG ZS.Heck even the top end 3xo costs almost as much as the XUV400, Nexon EV vs diesel AMT. The price parity for EVs vs ICE has already narrowed at the top end models.
Fair but the percentage of people buying top ends is very small. It still doesn't make economic sense for the larger population. Not unless you are doing a lot of KMs daily.
@@aBrokenShardNexon creative+ is mid variant on both EV and ICE For ev, OTR price Mumbai is 15.33L For DCA petrol, 15.5L For AMT petrol, 14.98L For AMT diesel, 15.8L The EV model is steady cheaper than diesel auto, and that’s the laggy AMTs we are talking about, so intangible disadvantage right away.
I made many mistakes while buying my firstcar. Here are some 1. Don't fall for EMI prices as final price. Calculate every single thing on a yearly expense including insurance, maintenance, fuel etc 2. While test driving, drive the route you frequent and test mileage. 3. Pick your fuel type on your real world usage. If you just drive to office 5 times a week, pick an EV. If you do long road trips frequently, then pick diesel. For petrol, if you can afford an hybrid, go for it since it's a balance of both worlds. 4. A new car depreciates 25-50% in the first 2-3 years. Keep that in mind while buying.
I am not a first time car buyer. But this is my first 'New' car. Confused between Fronx delta+ and Xuv 3xo petrol in the same price point. Heart says Xuv for better interiors and performance. Mind says Fronx for ease-of an NA engine, good FE and long term reliability. Very confused
Shumi, you asked about motorcycles but I've a questiom about the aerox scooter. This is the first purchase in my family and I'm happy with the scooter & it's new suspension. So the question is I bought it like 3 months back and the front disc is having rust on it, is it normal to have it? what should I do to avoid it? PS: Your reviews on aerox was really good detailed and it really did helped me in making the decision to go for it.
Great convo as always... 👍 Anyway i am bike guy (never bought a car).. have 3 bikes RTR160 from 2016 ( gonna ride it till its last breath ) new Himalayan 450 and a scooter to run errands.... Now a kid is coming... So CAR IS A NECESSITY.. i have finalized on the triber just coz of the boot space....😂 Car buying based STRICTLY on NECESSITY..!!
Video Idea Rate all the car and bike manufacturers in different categories like value, service experience, parts, reliability etc. As you always mention that people give feedback in comments section about different manufacturers so combining all these feedbacks into one video and making it available for everyone will be great.
This is a gr8 video. I am planning to buy a car and the discussion immensely helps. Few observation - It is rightly mentioned that car buying is an emotional decision and the choices we make drives heavily on emotion than on logic. Lets say for me I would like to have -- Big screen with CarPlay / Auto (this helps me in creating a statement...(you know what I mean huh!) -- Sunroof...absolutely Yes -- Being a first time car buyer, I will not be confident in driving so things like Hill-assist, ABS, a stronger outer shell, rain-sensing screen wiper, defogger, tubeless tyres and I think most importantly anything that makes me feel I am in control while driving (this is what Kartik mentioned as well) Anyways, keep making such video serieses and more power to you both. Regards Rup
Absolutely feel the same about why fundamental features are decided across variants while being a first time buyer. It’s hell to compare all these, even after when we have details online as opposed to brochures like before
These guidelines are quite intriguing! However, when it comes to budgeting for their first car, many buyers overlook additional expenses such as insurance, RTO fees, running costs, and maintenance charges. Often, they solely focus on the ex-showroom price and assume they can afford it. However, there's a notable disparity between the ex-showroom price and the on-road price, which can further increase with financing. Therefore, it's crucial to consider all these factors to avoid any negative impact on your experience or financial situation.
True @neo4646 but we believe that most people are now aware that there will be two different prices for a vehicle. What most people seem to not account for are the running costs, which we've covered in Season 01.
I wanted to buy the Ignis. But better-half wanted Baleno. Being first car and both of us being newly learned drivers, I was sure of scratches and dings to be added to the car. So finally we settled on a Celerio. Of course, both of us managed to rip off the front plastic bumper once each!! And every 6-months I evaluate the question that should I change cars thanks to Maruti's legendary metalwork.
Hello Mr Fox, It’s a sensor in the seat to identify whether a person is sitting there or not. Which helps the car computer decide whether the seatbelt reminder alert needs to be played or not. If a seat is empty (no load), it won’t. If there is someone there (load is sensed), it will. Hope that helps.
I have a h'ness. Have a meteor and a bullet uce in the family. They are nothing alike. I bought the h'ness precisely because of how different it was. It was my first motorcycle and at the time of purchase I really loved how much easier to ride and sedated it seemed. 15k km what I love about this bike has changed completely. I love the agility and the fact that this engine can be kept at higher revs. I drive it more spiritedly than I do the meteor. Puts a smile to my face. It is a slow bike that can be driven fast, and that is a lot of fun.
Only reason for me considering buying say a variant above the base for Infotainment/speakers is that for the price I pay, I want the warranty to be active if I need it. And read that aftermarket additions makes the warranty void. Is this True?
I find Android auto/Apple carplay important. For navigation most of us are dependent on Google maps and if that can be within the infotainment, it's useful and safe. Second option is to use phone, mount it somewhere on dashboard, but it's inconvenient as well as phone heats up a lot by the sunlight coming from front. I own Ford Aspire with touchscreen infotainment but it doesn't support Android auto/carplay, that's something I badly miss in Pune as I need navigation not just to see direction but also to find the best route as per traffic conditions.
Brought baleno base model this year as my first car. On road Price 7 Lakhs negotiated with multiple owners. I am happy with the car. It feels more spacious than brezaa.
Beautiful episode guys! Reminded me of the confusion I had when I was planning to buy my first car in 2013-14 period. I had just learnt driving and as the saying goes, "हाथ साफ करने के लिए" I was planning to buy a second hand car, and initially my plan was to buy either a second hand Ritz Diesel (loved the space inside and practicality as we had gone on a road trip from Hyderabad to Munnar and back) or a second hand Punto 90HP (I was a childhood Fiat fan from the Padmini days, I loved the design, which was beautiful and loved the relaxing feeling of that car during my long drives in that car with my boss or the couple of times I drove that after I got my license). Then reality hit me, I didn't have that much money as both of them went for 3.5-4 lacs and I had to lower my budget accordingly. Then I turned my gaze to some 10 year old cars, Fiat Palio in specific, for three reasons, childhood FIAT love, aforementioned "हाथ साफ करना" and the last was to drive it for a year or two to save up on money for the budget for my next car. Test drove a few as well but couldn't find one. Then in April, Tata Nano XT with the Power Steering launched and we did a test drive after the launch. This remained in my mind while I was TD'ing the other Palios. I was blessed with my son in August of 2014 and in September, after taking some financial help from my father, I went to a Tata Showroom and took a spot delivery of a Dazzling Blue Tata Nano XT (I wanted a Yellow but the color was discontinued, the next best was the blue as it came with Black interiors while all the others came with a beige interiors). Had that car for 4 years when I sold it in Sep-2018 after enjoying 45k KMs and doing multiple trips like Hyderabad-Bangalore, Hyderabad-Ramagundam, Bangalore-Coorg, Bangalore-Thiruvannamalai-Chidambaram-Cuddalore-Bangalore on it. Loved it to the core and felt that it was an under appreciated piece of Indian Engineering probably a result of the लखटकिया car tag which wasn't true because I bought it for Rs.2.37 lacs on road with 4 years AMC. The space inside surprised a lot of people and the AC was one of the best units I have experienced. My next car was a Ford Freestyle which was a heart decision as well because I wanted a Ford, but Ecosport was out of the reach but I loved the Freestyle (my Greyhound), now 62k kms! Could you plan an episode of under appreciated cars / bikes in Indian market?
@@motorinc You can try also a discussion on brands which have left the Indian market like Ford(with rumours of coming back), GM, Fiat etc. Why they left our market? Some of the models were awesome!
Guyz definitely my favourite episode in ThisConnect the things I got to learn from this episode was immense. Today I realised that I don't even know why vehicles have suspension or headrest. I never thought that headrest can be so necessary. Guyz pls make a perticular ThisConnect on facts like this. Thank you guyz for the amazing content

Loved the 3 priorities from Kartikeya. Very similar to the ones I had as well, the 1.2L turbo from Hyundai is the best engine in its class. The DSG gear box is the other thing I particularly wanted to avoid the head bobbing but that combination was only available in the top most variant which comes with the Sunroof (though I haven't used it even once). The only reason for selecting the Asta(O) variant vs. N-line for the i20 though was the suspension. Thanks for the validation Kartikeya! The problem is as a buyer I have to pay a premium for a bunch of things which I will never use just because the options are only available in the top most variant!
My 1st car was a used car and it turned out to be great, but it was through a reliable reference and not through platforms. This is 2011 I am talking about. However, not sure if still the used car platforms have evolved today so much that one can discard the doubt of buying a proper car 2nd hand today.
44:10 i think its a must since Google maps is most updated than any other Map providers, plus it's ability to "upgrade" solely relies on the phone you use rather than upgrade the infotainment (hardware) system itself. Plus music etc in already on your phone and makes it more interactive.
I just love the way you guys explained about the active and passive safety, because the ncap ratings are making fool of the consumers. The customers prioritising the ratings too much. Though it matters, should not be that much. Also the explanation for how the suspension works is brilliant. And the sunroof factor, hate that. It should be optional, should not be forced. But most of the people prefer sunroof blindly and just dont use it. Just loved the content. Also i found that most of the videos that are accessible for everyone become members only why so?
Hi Shumi and Karthik.. I could completely resonate with your views.. when I bought my Jazz in 2015 it was my second car. I would like to add another dimension to the conversation which I applied in my decision making. Consider the 80:20 rule. Consider where do you drive 80% of your mileage and choose the car that makes you comfortable in the 80% situation. If you are in tier 2 towns where you drive a lot on bad roads and on no roads, a Bolero Neo fits the bill than a Baleno.. if you are an urban user and you drive 80% of annual mileage within the city then you would do well with a sub 4 Metre car than a large car considering narrow roads and ease of manaevouring. My Jazz worked out great in 100% of my use case considering the versatility in city and stability in highway. Been on more than 2000 km road trips and it's been a great companion. Of course I admired the first Gen Jazz in India and didn't think twice when the second Gen launched in 2015, emotional decision partly..
"What is the need and want?" This is the question I answered for myself when I was buying for the first time and it's what I suggest when people ask "What car should I buy?" For me, it was easier to answer because I had been driving the family car for 5 years. That experience gave me what I was comfortable spending on fuel and maintenance, and what I wanted from the driving experience. When helping new buyers, I walk through their considerations before narrowing down to the best options for them. One friend wanted a more spacious car as an upgrade from the Kwid but also something safe for the family they were planning for. Another just wanted prestige of owning a cool car. Both of these are different cars but they are right for them. That advice would not have worked interchangeably.
Im a noob to cars and still dont have my own car .But besides countless variants and all ,what i get most confused between is Manual ,AMT ,CBT etc etc so if u guys can make a video on that plus on Hybrids then that would be useful. Anyways, another great video lads ,
Hi Kartikeya! I also face this issue in the Baleno where the seating position is a bit low even with the seat height at the max. I'm relatively tall (5'11 ish) and am unable to clearly judge exactly where the left side is. I'm also a relatively new-ish driver. So what do you suggest about this problem?
Hi Dhara, here are two things to try. First - adjust the mirrors properly. You should see the front door handle in the lower corner (the side closer to the car). That way you will see a bit of your car and the rest will be what’s behind you. Once you can see clearly you will feel more confident. When parking near a foot path - adjust the mirror downward - so you can see how close the wheels are to the kerb. Last - but most importantly - do this exercise. Practise parking close to something. But get out of the car and go take a look at the left as many times you need. Once you do that a few times you’ll have a “sense” of the size. That should sort you out. Please let us know if we can help further.
Hi Guys, Excellent insights. My suggestion for future topic: Which cars should people who stay in city and drive in bumper to bumper traffic in narrow lanes, look to buy? Here factors such as car dimmensions, right engine become imp. 80% city and 20% highway, rural roads is a sweet spot where high percentage of new car buyers would fall.
Heya Akhil, the advice will not change dramatically. You have to pick your priorities. And they will differ for some. We will prioritise good engines, suspension and reliability.

I bought my first car (WagonR) in 2015.
Thank you for joining us @santhoshkalisamy!
Thanks for sharing @HasanAmirVlogs and for the kind words!
@@motorinc And yes mileage should be good.
Hi Suraj, thanks for sharing that with us here. And glad to hear that you all were safe.
Recently I got a Tata Punch EV for the city, love it.
you should have been more alert while driving...sed!!

One of my friend worked in sales for car dealerships and he mentioned that you could receive discounts from the dealership if you buy a previous year’s model in the new year. There might not be highly customizable options available for it but if you buy the model as is, you could get some pretty good discounts for taking it off their hands.
-
When we bought our first car in 2019, we did this. Got a 2018 model from Maruti which coincidentally happened to be in the exact spec we wanted and the showroom gave us a 10% discount!
It’s one of my core strategies now. I will always keep an eye out on previous year’s models if they have them and bargain a good discount.
-
For a first time car buyer, the options and frills aren’t that critical so if someone is willing to make some adjustments, you could find some pretty sweet deals which make the purchase that much more worthwhile.
Thanks Sanmaan!
So true!
Huh
My priorities list goes like this:
1. Suspension
2. Engine Responsiveness
3. Steering Feel
4. Crash Safety
5. The basic feature set that Kartikayee mentioned: Adjustable Head Rests, Rear Wiper, Steering and Seat Adjustment and then for a new driver: hill hold assist and Android Auto for the excellent navigation.
Thanks DJ! Always helpful to hear your take.
So i20 will be a better choice considering these points, just asking for my 1st car as I have a similar list
@@jayantsharma2669 with i20 petrol you'll get a mileage of around 6-8 in city. So you've to watch out for that.
@@avitoislive really 😳, is it that bad ? But someone told me that i20 gives around 10-12 in the city & near around 16-18 on highways

I resonate with this video, I went for TAIGUN 1.0MT Highline , driven 35000km till now, fully satisfied. Driven my Fluidic Verna diesel for 2,00,000km now it is my secondary car. still love it due to its diesel engine.
My priorities were
1. Solid built quality and safety
2. Solid engine which should provide whenever demanded. engine should not be dull, i was finding a versatile engine which can provide good fuel efficiency whenever driven sensibly, and it should give good power whenever you rev it.
3. Solid stiff suspension which gives huge confidence on high speeds
4. Good break bite and confidence in breaking , which i missed on my previous car Verna Fludic
4. It shouldn't have rubbish features like ADAS but should have good infotainment , fog lamps , reverse camera , alloy wheels
5. I love manual so went for manual transmission
6. I do not follow herd mentality , highest selling car can not be your ideal car , one should consider car as per the needs.
What I missed is
Cruise control

Amazing car with 900cc it's still gives me enough performance to maintain 100 kmph on highways for long duration
I took it with me from gujrat to vaishnodevi with 4 more family members and it never let me down
1. Thoroughly enjoyed the video as someone who went through this process recently . Felt like a special treat on sunday morning immediately after a 100km pleasure drive on wonderful Hyderabad ORR on sunday morning in my new honda Elevate CVT
Cringe 😂
Hullo Sudhakar, awesome to have your take. We don’t have to agree on everything. But, being able to discuss it and give each other a listen - awesome! Wish you awesome travels!

Hey Doc! Good to see you here!
Motorcycle culture primarily in india has 2 extreme ends to it
1.) over speeding , spiked colored hairs , r15 mt15 duke 125,200 (all dukes ) rash driving , custom exhaust and stunts . Nuisance on the roads
2.) the uncle gang with splendors ,platina extreme mileage bikes .
No moderation , lot of taxes on two wheelers , scarcity of good options in the middle . Bikes here are more utilitarian then for fun
Wish taxes on two wheelers were not so exorbitant and we get kore options and more brands that are present in most cities .
Trigger warning! 🤣

Heya Nitesh! We’d be happy to help. Any budget in mind? And have you any pivot car?

Buy a baleno instead
I learnt riding and driving in my teens in the late 1990s. I started with bikes. My Suzuki Samurai made me understand the basics of how a vehicle works as a machine. And more importantly, how to conduct myself on the road - how to overtake, how to join a main road from a side lane and so on. Later I moved to learning how to drive a car. My first car was a second hand Maruti Zen. After several mistakes and scratches and dents and scrapes 🤕, I became what you could consider a sensible rider and driver. I recommend this process to everyone who wants to make the most as a motorist.

Regular care is the trick!
Sorry to hear that @HarikrishnanandIceman. We hope you get better soon!

This is a conversation about buying a first car. Here are the key points:
* Don't be nervous, buying a car is easier than ever before.
Thank you @NaynishBalasahebLadkat.

Thanks for sharing! And loved hearing about your conversation!
And fun part the heated seats can be used in summers here and it'll give you a very warm fuzzy feeling and your aching back will thank you 😂❤
Congratulations! And awesome to get into the test drive flashback with you!

AMT is the worst automatic mate.
For that price you can get a much better automatic transmission.

Thanks for sharing @ntsikha. Glad that it works for you.
Just as an add on.I really appreciate this kind of Long videos. As one who drives to work 3 days a week, Mororinc adds to the joy of driving.

I truly agree with your comment on how safe and connect you feel when you drive car regardless of safety features.

Rear defogger and wiper should be considered while giving out safety rating categories.
in a country like India there is cold weather and heavy rainfalls.
How is a sunroof given in second base to mid variants but not a rear defogger makes sense ?
😑 Agreed.
Does adding aftermarket info screens and sound system with coupler to coupler fittings void your warranty in suzuki or toyota?
This podcast is genuinely good. We have had many cars in our family for years, also I have been a sales consultant at NEXA thus telling from my experience
Thank you so much for the advice! Super helpful!

It may be of help with the XUV 500 as the suspension can “crash”.
Totally get it! R15 is ❤️
Great Video!
Awesome TEM! Good to hear about your garage life!
Fair but the percentage of people buying top ends is very small. It still doesn't make economic sense for the larger population. Not unless you are doing a lot of KMs daily.
@@aBrokenShardNexon creative+ is mid variant on both EV and ICE
For ev, OTR price Mumbai is 15.33L
For DCA petrol, 15.5L
For AMT petrol, 14.98L
For AMT diesel, 15.8L
The EV model is steady cheaper than diesel auto, and that’s the laggy AMTs we are talking about, so intangible disadvantage right away.
I made many mistakes while buying my firstcar. Here are some
1. Don't fall for EMI prices as final price. Calculate every single thing on a yearly expense including insurance, maintenance, fuel etc

Rate all the car and bike manufacturers in different categories like value, service experience, parts, reliability etc. As you always mention that people give feedback in comments section about different manufacturers so combining all these feedbacks into one video and making it available for everyone will be great.
Processing… Ideating…
That's a great idea. Motorinc can even put manufacturers in tiers like S tier, great , fair & Avoid
This is a gr8 video. I am planning to buy a car and the discussion immensely helps. Few observation
- It is rightly mentioned that car buying is an emotional decision and the choices we make drives heavily on emotion than on logic. Lets say for me I would like to have
-- Big screen with CarPlay / Auto (this helps me in creating a statement...(you know what I mean huh!)
-- Sunroof...absolutely Yes
-- Being a first time car buyer, I will not be confident in driving so things like Hill-assist, ABS, a stronger outer shell, rain-sensing screen wiper, defogger, tubeless tyres and I think most importantly anything that makes me feel I am in control while driving (this is what Kartik mentioned as well)
Anyways, keep making such video serieses and more power to you both.
Regards
Rup
All the best Rup! And thank you!
Absolutely feel the same about why fundamental features are decided across variants while being a first time buyer.
It’s hell to compare all these, even after when we have details online as opposed to brochures like before
should i consider amaze as my 1st car. I do not like anything hyundai, suzuki's offer in that same range. What are other options.
Could someone explain me what this load sensor is and its functionality? It was discussed around 40:00 minutes mark.
Considering motion sickness for the passengers, can a new/first car buyer, specifically limit to certain type(Sedan/Hatchs) of cars?
I have a h'ness. Have a meteor and a bullet uce in the family. They are nothing alike. I bought the h'ness precisely because of how different it was. It was my first motorcycle and at the time of purchase I really loved how much easier to ride and sedated it seemed. 15k km what I love about this bike has changed completely. I love the agility and the fact that this engine can be kept at higher revs. I drive it more spiritedly than I do the meteor. Puts a smile to my face. It is a slow bike that can be driven fast, and that is a lot of fun.
Thanks for sharing @rajveersingh95, glad to know it's working well for you.
Nice to get that insight. And valid point!
Brought baleno base model this year as my first car. On road Price 7 Lakhs negotiated with multiple owners. I am happy with the car. It feels more spacious than brezaa.
Glad to hear that @GauravTraveller. Congratulations! Thank you for sharing.
Best conversation ever. Cleared lot of doubts which doesn't come in mind generally.
Thank you for sharing your experience @BhaskaraVenkatesh and the suggestion too.
@@motorinc You can try also a discussion on brands which have left the Indian market like Ford(with rumours of coming back), GM, Fiat etc. Why they left our market? Some of the models were awesome!

That's a problem for sure @surajshanbhag. Companies definitely need to do better than that.
My 1st car was a used car and it turned out to be great, but it was through a reliable reference and not through platforms. This is 2011 I am talking about. However, not sure if still the used car platforms have evolved today so much that one can discard the doubt of buying a proper car 2nd hand today.
They do give you more peace of mind for sure. And many more options.
44:10 i think its a must since Google maps is most updated than any other Map providers, plus it's ability to "upgrade" solely relies on the phone you use rather than upgrade the infotainment (hardware) system itself. Plus music etc in already on your phone and makes it more interactive.
44:45 I agree to this as well, but a well thought out approach on what is needed vs what is wanted is a must !

"What is the need and want?"
This is the question I answered for myself when I was buying for the first time and it's what I suggest when people ask "What car should I buy?" For me, it was easier to answer because I had been driving the family car for 5 years.
Very true! That's the next question one should think of after sorting out their basics.
I bought the new creta as my first car. I wish this video was released earlier.
However, Any tips to keep in mind now that I did this?
Im a noob to cars and still dont have my own car .But besides countless variants and all ,what i get most confused between is Manual ,AMT ,CBT etc etc so if u guys can make a video on that plus on Hybrids then that would be useful.
Anyways,another great video lads ,
Any recommendations for after market TPMS for a 4 wheeler?
@@motorinc Thank you so much for this! I'll try it out and let you know how it goes
@motorinc we could do one about our pivot cars and bikes.
@@motorinc exactly, thanx👍
