Shamir is nicks best student. He listens, inquisitive, gives full effort, good attitude, and appreciative.
True … though sometimes he tends to „overthink“ things 😉 If a stroke feels great, it is great and technique cannot that bad 😎
how about safin? or anna?
He can be a good coach too.
Shamir's videos always tend to help me as I suffer with similar problems. Thanks a lot Nick & Shamir!
SHAMIR! 🐐
I can relate to this video because I tend to overthink these things too like Shamir. I really like Nick’s encouraging teaching style. Great work guys.
Thanks!. Your one handed lessons with Shamir are fantastic
Thank you for the super thanks 🙏
Love the one-handed backhands, they’re the most aesthetically pleasing shot in tennis
The open stance one hander is also very helpful for me with return of serve- especially body serves from the ad side in doubles when I must get the ball cross court. Great lesson!
Yay!! Finally the long awaited video for us one-handers😅
nick this type of backhand on the left leg is something sooo important and no-one teach it, so thank you so much
Shamir has returned! The best content comes with Shamir hands down 💪🎾
Fantastic video Nick, I'm a tennis coach, not been doing it long, your videos have given me much more confidence on court.
Concise information that I believed to be correct and you just put it across so well to your students.
Great lesson again! Now I understand why I do not think about open or close stance: Because I intuitively react to the ball that comes on me.
Crap o la. I’m a ping pong coach. This guys Good. He picks out every little thing. I’m impressed. He thoroughly explains and easily understood.
haha! I liked a minute of philosophy there: recovery is important but you know what is more important?))) I like Shamir's eagerness to dig deep but Nick is a perfect opponent in this game with his straightforward and logical answers :)
Best teacher and perfect student. All the mistakes that were pointed out and corrected in the video are so helpful.
💯🙏
We’re all Shamir! Go Shamir!
The best "stance" lesson of 2022. I need to watch this 5x thank you Nik and Shamir
💯
Thanks you for these tips.. as a player who want improve everytime, i really enjoy that friendship between those two.. thanks Nick.
I love how well the coach volleys. So simple and well placed volleys.
poor guy, he is having so much trouble trusting his body. I feel for you, it’s tough to trust yourself after an injury. Keep at it, as many of the comments have mentioned you are a great student.
The very best one-handed backhand instruction video - ever.
💯🙏
One of the 1st videos I've seen that addresses high and low contact points, footwork, and setup. Best video I've seen so far. Thanks guys.
Loved this lesson. Thank you Nick.
6:01 - I love this. A great teacher will always own their mistakes.
Amazing lesson! Thanks coach Nick and Samir.
Love this! A shot Ive always struggled with is the defensive slice whilst at full stretch. Is this something we could perhaps see a new video for?
Great lesson Nick!
Very instructional and very good player as well 💯 go Coach Nick!!
Another great video from you coach nik and shamir. Would it be possible to do a version of this for two handed backhand? Cheers
Well done!
Great breakdown of the footwork for various backhand shots. I have questioned myself as to which leg I'm supposed to hit off of. Now I understand either can be right, depending on the circumstances. I will practice this footwork.
I've never been show or seen this single hand set up and footwork taught in this detail...and I have a good single hand...but becomes defensive at times...go to slice too often especially running wide on deep shot. Nick's coaching style is excellent.
Love all Shamir vids. Get our boy to 5.0!!
That left foot stance backhand, always reminds me the MP saved by Federer in the 2008 4th set Wimbledon final.
The coaching at this level is mind blowing 🤯!!! Nick is a tennis scientist.
🙏🙏
Great video👍
Nice lesson. The shot that he was learning gives even pros trouble. Shamir with a little more work should get it down. Enjoyable video. Thanks Nick and Shamir!
Truly great advice!
Thank you 🙏🙏 much appreciated
Great video. I unintentionally hit a couple of these open stanced one handed backhands during a match when the opponent was giving me difficult angles and thought I was using incorrect technique. Seems that this is actually a good thing to do in certain situations.
Very specific, detailed, and insightful 👌...,.as usual Nek
Thanks 🙏
Stopped at 5:31, didn't need to see anymore. Dr.Nic..⚕️🎾
i wish i could get a few lessons with nick. would be so useful
Thanks for vídeo.
I’m from Brasil.
I will pratic that moviments.
great lesson, shamir you looked good trust your shots :)
Great video for one handers. On the defensive back foot shots it looks like Shamir is hopping through the shot. Could you also rotate and pivot off of the back foot too? That way the back foot is planted to the ground the entire time for more power.
brilliant
Thanks!
Thank you for the super thanks 🙏
I love my one handed backhand.
the advise with left hand work well, i had try this morning, but im sad my 7 coachs in total, didnt tell me how to fix my backhand :o i think my backhand is getting better, but need more work, Thanks youtube and Tennis coach
Nick, can you address the difference between a pistol grip and hammer grip on the OHBH and where your heel pad should rest on the grip? The RacquetFlex channel has a video where they suggest that a hammer grip be used and the grip should run along your index knuckle and palm, rather than index knuckle and heel pad. Thanks for all of the great videos that produce.
the problem with the one-handed backhand is not the lightly thrown ball but the high deep ball. It is extremely difficult for an amateur to perform a good backspin with a high deep ball.
I don't know why coaches don't run the high deep ball in the back anymore...
interesting learning, greetings from tennis Croatia!
my god Shamir crazy defensive backhand on the run
Coach, Are you using continental grip here to hit backhands here or did you change it as you said you would? Excellent work and thanks to Shamir.
should weight shift to heel or toes of front foot on flat/topspin one handed backhand? Federer was toes. McEnroe, heel, which I like better for balance
how do you hit a good penetrating 1-handed backhand on the run ? its alot easier when standing and only moving step or two
@intuiive tennis Did you teach him purposefully to start with his pelvis not facing the side fence at take back but already slightly uncoiled? I notice his shoulder turn is solid, but on every single ball he hits, his pelvis is not facing the side fence, but actually already 10 degrees open before he even swings forward. Just wondering if you specifically taught him this or if this is just something that works for him?
Great film guys! I have a few questions about Shamir's racket. Is it Yonex Vcore Pro line? Which model? Any thoughts on the racket? Is it a good racket for a spin game, for a baseliner hitter? I have one handed backhand and I'm thinking to switch to Vonex VCore Pro 97L.
Nick you've really come on a long way under Shamir.
Which one---*objectively-speaking*---is superior: the one-handed or two-handed backhand?
(Forgive me, in advance, if this is an age-old controversy that will never be resolved, like Jordan or Kobe, Messi or Ronaldo, DH or No DH, etc.)
Great question. I got a comprehensive video coming on that.
@@IntuitiveTennis - looking forward to it!
it's much easier to hit low backhands frankly because you have to load the front leg in order to get it over the net. At least that is what it feels to me, A higher bouncing ball is more difficult to hit with power imho.
The only word the he knows is YEAH. I think he say YEAH a hundred times hahaha😄😄
Shamir ! Instead of turning immediately towards the court at contact point , stay with your stroke a bit longer , with eyes, head and shoulders , you'll get more consistency for sure ...
06:12 Backhand1
Shamir has a nice looking backhand. Very Federeresque. What level does Shamir play at?
4.0 he used to be 4.5 before his foot injury
Is it better the one handed or the two handed backhand?
There is no "better." The one-handed backhand, at the very highest levels of play (Henin, Wawrinka, etc.) has the potential to deliver more pace and spin than the two-hander because it has a longer swingpath and is struck further out from the body. But the two-handed backhand is inherently more stable and can tolerate more variation in the contact point, especially when players are caught late or dealing with high-bouncing balls. Most players, especially at the recreational level, will be more consistent and have better control with two hands. But a small percentage of people find the one-handed backhand drive to be a more natural motion that they have better control with intuitively. It's also usually FASTER to learn and develop a reliable two-handed backhand than a reliable one-handed backhand, most players need a longer development period to become proficient with a one-hander. But that doesn't translate to "this particular stroke is better or worse than the other." Just different.
@@LunarEclipsism1 Thank you for the reply, now I understand better
Shamir raises his front shoulder on every swing. He should be staying down through the contact on the one hander.
Have to finish high on the modern one hander. More topspin with a vertical swing path and follow through. A lot of pros even follow through lifting high on their front foot toes for more low to high emphasis
@@Tennis214 yea I get that and I know I do that on mine when appropriate but Shamir just doesn’t look like he stays down on his shots consistently. Contact point is inconsistent.
fantastic!
I think Shamir pays extra $$ because Nick is very patient with him addressing some weird concerns and worries 😂
You still approach the ball bit like a double hander, your swing should look and feel simpler and smoother and contact the ball from the outside especially when you are aiming cross court...
Heel to toe is a great way to hurt your Achilles. Shamir ain't wrong. Look at every Achilles pop, it's always a heel-down pattern. Do not put force into the heel. Find a Goata coach.
Good lesson, but I think Shamir should stick to his close stands backhand, this king of confused it all a little...
kind of
Don't know why do players decide to play one handed backhand. Except Federer, who was actually much more of a net player, this shot is truly a weak side. Especially if left hander playing/forcing top spin on opponent.
why are all your students on video injured? Ema, Alec, Shamir,.. Lol
I think Shamir is acting a little bit on his baseline skills before training.
does Shamir have ADHD?
Hey Nikola, can you post more content of you playing competitive matches with good players. I think it's honestly more entertaining to see you in competitive situations than just training tutorials.
Thanks Nick for convicing me it's possible to hit off the non-dominant leg.
