- From the Nov. 18, 1970 edition of "The Johnny Cash Show," which I only have in faded black and white, although it was broadcast in color. Backed, as always, by the Carter Family, the Statler Brothers and the Tennessee Three. After Elvis, Cash is my favorite Gospel singer and this clip is a good example why. The black & white only adds resonance for me.
My dear Lord, if only we could see and hear this on TV again, back when America was great, because there were people who lifted up the name above all names, Jesus!

The first Johnny Cash concert I ever attended was back in 75, this song was sung that night and the next day I was shopping for it. I found it on a LP and bought it instantly. The fourth man was another song I heard that night and also bought.

great words who wrote it.
Don't watch that movie they made about Johnny Cash. They told 1/3 of the story and NEVER mentioned that he came to Christ long before he died. That is pretty important in a movie!!!
True dat! But to be fair, at the time they were marketing the film, that fact was up-front in all the press. They claimed that Cash's life couldn't possibly be done justice in two hours so they focused on the love story years. Mel Gibson should make a Johnny Cash biopic about the years starting just after this show was canceled until he passed. (Yes,.Mel is a deservedly controversial figure but by God can he direct epics! I feel bad for him that he holds those beliefs, and I feel bad for us cuz that means we, the culture, lost a master filmmaker just at the beginning of his directing career. Maybe the lesson is don't drink and drive. Hey, maybe it's "don't be an angry drunk.' If only he'd have gone along civilly at his DUI arrest...)
