- Hey everyone! Thanks for coming to the channel!
Todays video will talk about my process and becoming a private pilot. I talk about the cost, effort, time, and what you can expect in flight training.
Everyone’s process is different but this is how mine went to show a real unbiased view on flight training. If you like the video please SUBSCRIBE, COMMENT, & LIKE. Help me grow the channel and follow me through the rest of my training!

Great job keeping at it!
Was waiting for your next vid! It’s great to see your progress 🙌🏼. I start my training in April
Thank you! It’s been way too long lol goodluck in training
Awesome 😎😎😎😎😎😎
Congrats!
Thank you!
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you!!
Congrats bro, thank you for the update. Your instrument rating is waiting for you just around the corner
Oh yea! Can’t wait to keep making videos. Past few months have dragged by lol
lol just now seeing this. Yeah bro you gotta post more! Were invested. Been subscribed since like day one. I’m starting in March!! Really hope it don’t take me 7 months tho
I took like 2 months off and waited 2 months for a checkride. Just go full throttle into it brotha!
Congrats Luis!
See you around in KVDF, Juan from GPA.
Thanks brotha! See ya
LESS FUCKEN GOOOOOOO!
Congrats on getting across the finish line! I'm hoping to start my training this spring. But first I'm going to try to learn some of the skills in my new home simulator! I hope to shave some hours off my training that way and also to become more proficient and confident.
Yes I’ll talk in my next video ways to help get private done and things I wish I did. But I got a simulator for Christmas and it helped out tremendously with “chair flying” and getting basic flows down pact
@@luisr8_It should be great for instrument! Real Sim Gear is working on a really nice course for PPL for anyone getting started. They teach the real practical stuff that you'd miss if you tried to just do it on your own without an instructor in the sim. The instructor is really good and experienced CFI.
That’s pretty sweet! I’ve been using Microsoft flight simulator
I start at ATP on march 25th! I’m nervous but from everything I’ve seen and heard, I do believe ATP is right for me. It’s a smaller location in Tucson. Good luck with your IFR and future training!
Thank you! I know I talk bad about it in some videos but it was just my personal experience. I often time wish I would’ve stayed but to each there own. ATP is worth it as long as you give it your 110%.
Goodluck in training! Hopefully we meet someday
I have spent 57 years in aviation 39 as active airline pilot last 12 as sim instructor and examiner on B 777 in Canada . ATP is the school is it expensive yes Frankly if you can’t cut the pace this career is not for you . When get to a major US airline like ATP your drinking from a firehouse . Best of luck on your course I loved every minute of my career. Years from now when your wandering around London Paris Rome Hong Kong Sydney you will 13:14 13:14 know you made the right decision. The best part is working with fellow pilots as part of a crew all who maintain high standards . Best of luck
Love the videos man, any tips for nerves on a checkride? I have mine coming up soon and I’m freaking out lol 😂
I was so nervous for mine . For me the hardest part was calming my nerves and being so in my head. Focus on flying and trust your training! Also you can always discontinue and pick it up on another day
Nice man! I actually just passed mine yesterday!
I’m flying into Tampa next week, February 15, 2024. I’ll be there for business, but most of my Friday is free. It would be cool to take a tour of the GA airport that you work at (and if you’re flying that day, I would love to tagalong for a flight). I’m just working on ground school now, so I won’t be doing the flying myself, yet. LMK.
By the way, I also have a RUclips channel and that’s actually what takes me to your area. I’m teaching a class on the software that I train people on, on my channel. So, I’m also thinking of starting an aviation channel, too. Keep up the good work!
I just saw this comment! I would love to learn more though. I hope you had a good experience when you visited
Should start training by march finger crossed 🤞
You got this!
Congrats Luis. Was waiting for an update. Did you do the private pilot test (theory) while doing the flights or did you get done before joining the second flight school? Is instrument rating next?
Yes I will be continuing my videos now that I’m in instrument training. I’m not too sure what the theory test is but all I had to do was complete my written test then I started flight training after. I did the written before both schools
I pay $172 wet but that's with high fuel costs. $150 otherwise. $68 for dual.
Glad to see this price is "normal"
Yes! But then I talk to an older pilot that says they got their entire private for $850 😭
Congrats man!
I've got 11 hours right now myself
Thank you brotha! Keep it going and get er done
@@luisr8_👊
Same happened to me I have been rescheduled 5 times
It sucks 🫠 gotta see it through tho!
Thanks so much for the video. I did send you a message on Instagram, but I can ask her a question here: I’m thinking of moving back down to Tampa to go to Flite school with a goal of becoming a commercial airline pilot. Would you recommend this school for full-timeaccelerated training? I do much better with deep dive schooling where I’m fully immersed.
I didn’t even see the message! But my best answer is whatever school you choose make sure to find a “career” instructor. You want someone who cares enough to teach and gets you through properly with all the time you need. I learned the hard way with some bad instructors that did not care.
Global pilot academy, Blueline, ATP, and Tampa bay aviation are some to check out. They all offer accelerated training
Are you going forward with INSTR rating (was not covered in the vid). I will be at KVDF soon, in fact just did my Discovery flight in that same Cessna 98Q.
Nice! I’ll see you around. 98Q is my favorite plane on the field. But I’m already doing instrument training so I will start vlogging how that training is going as well
Is that 65 per hour for the instructor or the whole flight? How long was each flight lesson?
Thanks for the update. I'm getting close to my checkride too. But wx delaying me
WX is my worst enemy lol . It was $65 per hour and my lessons on average were 1.5 hours long
Was thinking of leaving my day job and joining ATP, what recommendations do you have now, looking back at it?
Be fully committed. Put aside 10 months to get it all done. If you have any doubt or something holding you back then it won’t work. Also do research other local schools that offer zero to hero programs. I’ve found one for half the price of ATP and I love it. Definitely tour different schools
How the faa check for color blindness from your experience? What test do they do to test for color blindness?
They had me cover each eye and stand 10’feet from a poster and say the letters/numbers
May I ask how did you finance your flight training? Is it with student loans?
Yes indeed
So to get the certification does not require theory class, only flights training ?
Yes !
@@luisr8_ would u say that the ground classes are super difficult ? Like many class material , written exams etc etc
Great question. From my experience the ground school can be difficult but it was much easier than many college classes I’ve taken. The hardest part is just that vast amount of knowledge you gain. It’s a lot of stuff
Would you recommend your school in Tampa, if yes let me know the name.
If you’ve got a better school in Tampa, get me with their name.
I love the journey vlogs, thank you
Some I’d recommend include Tampa Bay Aviation, Superior Aviation Gateway, & Global Pilot Academy
@@luisr8_ stud, I was wondering if you could work your network on getting a “recommendation” for an A&P school, I am willing to relocate for an A&P school,
Which of the PPL schools would you choose if you were gonna school for PPL again?
Thank you.
You did the loan for ATP, were you able to transfer that loan to the new school?
No I had to get a new loan. They only charged me for the hours I used though and got refunded the rest
@@luisr8_ are you going now to a university or private school?
What is the name of the school you attend in Tampa?
Global pilot academy
so why no vids in 3 months?
Soooo many delays. Just dropped an update and got another one coming soon though
If you'd have stayed with ATP you'd probably be done by now~! lol I understand why you left tho
With a lot more debt too... $6000+
I think about this all the time lol but honestly I’m a lot happier this way
Hey Luis
Congrats!!
I’m from Tampa as well I would love to ask you some questions about the schools, do you have Instagram?
Yes I do! @pilot.Lrod
Congrats!
Thank you!
