Spent some time with this great Italian masterpiece. Beretta has been surprising me of late with how well they manufacture their products.

Renting guns at the range today...I asked for the Beretta PX4 Storm. The guy hands me the APX and says “this is better.” Put a few rounds down range. This is now on my “to buy” list! Feels good in the hand, accurate, nice trigger, almost no recoil. The Beretta APX Centurion is a winner! 👍🏽

The APX is on my "Must Have ...Someday" list, but I can tell you the PX4 is incredibly underrated. Is the APX better? IMHO, no... just different. For $9-12, you can replace the PX4's hammer spring and dramatically reduce the trigger pull weight - particularly the first (DA) pull ...a real treat to shoot with, but the likely reason some may say a striker fired pistol is better. The PX4 takes that argument away, and once you get to the SA pull - no comparison. To me, the PX4 outshines the APX. The rotating barrel lock system is super fast and smooth to shoot - hard to explain - just gotta try it ;)
As for the APX, I thought Beretta really did their homework and delivered something markedly different in a very saturated marked, and I would love to have seen it win the military trials. The looks and ergos are incredible, and I love it, but the PX4 is a very different animal. Give it a try when/if you can! :)

The Compact and Centurion are essentially the same gun with different sized mag wells. The Centurion holds 15+1 whereas the Compact is 13+1. The barrels are the same, the trigger group (serialized part) is identical, as are the slides. I have the Compact and love it. With the magazine in, it's just barely large enough to get my pinky around it comfortably with the small backstrap installed - you get 3 with the firearm, and the medium is installed from the factory. Very easy to change, once you know how.
I can quickly convert my Compact into a Centurion just by purchasing the Centurion grip frame and putting the trigger group and slide into and onto it; the grip frames are available in multiple colors also. It'll still take my 13 round magazines, or I could get the 15 round ones. Either of the smaller sized weapons will also take the 17 round full sized mags.
I'm pretty sure, although not positive, that the trigger group on the full sized APX is the same and if so, you could easily have all three guns with one serial number, although you would need the larger barrel and slide for the full sized version (interestingly, the larger slide and/or barrel will apparently fit the Compact or Centurion, but the smaller ones won't fit the full sized frame). I've been looking for confirmation on that but have not yet found a reliable source.
In conclusion, it's light, it's tight, and oh so modular. Shoots waaay better than I do, although in fairness, I've had to switch to lefty due to physical issues. Getting better though - practice practice practice! Easily the best handgun I've owned, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I have the full size for home defense and general use. I also am looking at the Centurion again for concealed carry. I had a centurion initially but sold it to a friend, and instantly regretted it. The Centurion is such a solid pistol. The other thing I like about the APX line is the minimal need for modifications. Stippling and sights are mostly good already. I also agree with how flat they shoot. I was blown away the first time I shot it.
Pretty much anyone I let hold the APX is surprised by how good it feels in the hand. Same goes for shooting it. It is sad because at all my local gun shops the APX are always in the side sections where the unpopular guns are. They are usually always overlooked by people looking for a Glock or a 320. I think the APX is highly underrated.

I talked to a guy at Beretta USA and was informed that the APX was built ground up for .40S&W. Hence, the wider mags. I am heavily considering adding a Centurion .40 to my collection as people seem to be wanting to dump .40's from their collections. I am finding lots of local guys selling off their .40 ammo for stupid low prices. This would be a good stash gun in my house on one of the floors and an occasional range plinker. Nice review. Now that prices have plummeted on the APX, it could be a best buy.

I agree with you on pretty much everything you ever put out sir. Thanks for another great video! That said. The APX full size is what I have and I say don't waste your money on any springs. After about 700-1000 rounds the trigger gets loosened up all on its own. I actually like a heavier trigger so I'm a little bummed about it but... great video and thanks man.

Damn, this is the gun I went to buy recently, because it showed "in stock" on Bass Pro website, and at Academy, but neither actually had it. Ended up getting the Sig P365XL. It's a good gun, a bit more than I wanted to spend, but good. But kind of wishing I had been able to get the APX Centurion. Oh well, maybe I'll get it when there's not only 8 handguns left in all of Bass Pro.

I agree the APX is an excellent pistol. Carried a Glock 23 for 20 years and put at least 1K rounds a month through it in that time. I have the Centurion 40 and really like it. Waiting on a custom leather AIWB holster and I'll carry it. I bought the Centurion because I did not want the other sizes and still don't. Also agree it is the perfect size. Thanks for the vid, subbed.

    @user-pv9pv4xf9c 5 лет назад +4

I got to try my buddy's 4.25 inch model, which has a very light trigger in it, so maybe they changed it slightly for this model. I didn't like the way the gun felt in my hand, and I disliked the takedown lever, it's awful and uncomfortable while shooting, but oh my freakin gosh this gun shot flatter than my ex gf's chest. I was like, what the hell is this and why did I spend all my money on Glocks?
Glock's like, 'We make the ugliest best shooting polymer pistol that feels weird in your hand," and Beretta was like, "Hold my beer." lol
But I do still love my Glocks, but Beretta did so damn well with this APX line. If they made a competition version that shoots even flatter then it would be such a race gun. Such an awesome race gun. I wonder what Ernest Langdon thinks about it?

I do like that you make the point of "if it was a human body" you'd be accurate enough. I think its important to remember that not all pistols are designed to be bullseye target guns out of the box and that minute of man accuracy is just fine for your skill in rapid fire. Lastly, almost all pistols are more accurate than the person wielding them so personal skill weighs in definitely when trying to shoot holes in holes but you dont need holes in holes for defensive accuracy

I have a full size. I got the competition striker spring. Breaks at 5-5.25 now. Ergos, grip texture are very, very good. I bought mine when they were over 500$, which they should be, they should be priced in the Springfield XD and S&W M&P range. $350 is a STEAL. Not only is a great gun regarding function, it has next tier fit and finish.Going to get a Compact soon. It is beyond me why the trigger safety dongle doesn't go flush. When shooting in cold weather it starts to bother my finger. The serrations can take getting used to for some people. They taper from the top of the slide down. If you usually grab the slide near the bottom there is not much there to get a good purchase on. Took me about 10 seconds to change my grip slightly and it is good to go, even when wet.

When I go shopping non of the Guns shops or sales reps show me Berettas and yet, I have never meet anyone who has shot them or owned them that didn’t swear by them. I know all about the Glock fanboys but their is no way their are more of them the Beretta fanboys.
