Thank you so much, really nice explanation how that part works that helped me fix my car. Issue with my switch was that it was stuck up too much so that it was permanently pressed. Broke all the legs of that part to figure out that switch works fine and just needs to be slightly more back so that the microswitch can be pressed.
1:22 that white plastic, thats my problem... I dont understand is it glued for "slightly yellow plastic (inside circle with cross) or how its connected... Im in temptation to superglue them together
Super video exactly my problem and I think will solve the issue that has suddenly come into my Mk5 😄👍👍Actually my issue happen to be the loom after all.About a 2 hour job to repair .Someone had been in there probing the wiring loom years ago by the looks of things all wires had to be cut out and replaced to allow me restore the lock and what appeared to be a malfunctioning back window wiper 👍done at last
Hi just to confirm I have mk5 golf same problem 8ve removed the trim and removed the badge is the micro switch supose to be touching the metal pin or there should be space from the pin to the small metal plate
I have a problem with my boot too I can only open it by putting a screwdriver from the inside and pushing it open I don’t know if should get a new lock or just the switch one thing is that when trying to unlock there is no sound would it be the switch then ?
Neil Magill thanks for your help I’m going to try this today do you have a video on how to get the tailgate latch out as u did I mean Volkswagen logo thing u push to open boot
What could be the problem when I have no power goin to the boot handle? I am going to take a live from somewhere else but I dont know which of the 2 wires running to the switch should be live? Fuses are all good.
@@NeilMagill got it sorted, none of them have to be live all the time. I crossed the wires and the boot opened so it's the switch in the badge, same as yours. Thanks for the reply. 👍

HI Mate, honestly don't remember... it seems pretty close in the video.
Another well presented, informative video. Have you done a video of a front strut brace install on the R32?
Thanks Scott, appreciate the feedback. I haven't done a strut brace install. I dont feel that it would benefit the car (real world) to be honest.

If the emergency release is working, the lock or latch itself is probably mechanically ok. Worth testing the switch to see.
Neil Magill how can I test it if u don’t mind do i get a new one ?
@@zaedious5839 I show how to test it in this video... short the two switch terminals together.

My boot light isn’t working.. apparently the bulb is fine, would the latch be the problem ? 😒
Not too sure, sorry. Worth checking though.

Check the cables running into the boot for a brake. Peel back the black rubber sheath and see if you can find something there. It's quite common.

Hi Neil, Do you know what the part number was on the microswitch?
Hi Blake, very good question. I'll look up what I can find... it was very expensive from memory.
