I hope you tried replacing just the microswitch first (vw part # 1K0962103). If that fixes it, you won't need to replace the entire latch and won't need to remove or loosen the rear wiper motor assembly.
One of my T25 screws was rusted solid. Used a solid driver and technique, but couldn't break it freee, even after soaking with liquid wrench for two days. Eventually stripped the head. Very awkward, but was able to cut a slot in the grade 8 screw. But still couldn't turn it with a big flat blade screw and wrench. Even tried an impact screwdriver and hammer. It only cammed out or chipped the head. I finall drilled out the screw, breaking a new drillbit in the process. If I'm lucky, there's enough threads left to hold a new screw.
This is the easy bit. The hard bit is trying to find the correct part. Why is there so many part numbers and variations of the same boot lid for a MK5 golf ?
If i put another boot catch from another mk5 golf, will i have to have it coded in as i have had to change the rear hatch on my sons car as another vehicle crashed into the rear, whenni tried to put another catch on it wouls not work.
Can anyone recommend me a decent website to order a new handle from? I tried replatching the latch but then it wouldn't open and heard a buzz coming from the handle,so most likely handle motor is gone.

I'm not sure if you can get a brand new one anywhere. You should be able to get a used one at a car dismantlers or maybe on Ebay.
You should have labelled which size screw driver you need
Excellent
Thanks !
I just want to replace the badge on mine. Whiteworn :(
I don't think you can remove the badge separately but here's a link that might be of interest: mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,8746.0.html
