I do fifo work as a diesel fitter, it’s not that good trust me. I’m don’t have a short term plan, I’m just doing it as long as I can, smashing debt down. Salary sacrificing to super and sending kids to a good school. I’m hoping to retire on time owning a good sized family home with healthy super. I don’t have the mining stickers( Tatts) I don’t smoke or gamble, or drive over priced cars and have the toys, but a lot do. I see a lot of waste by other FIFO workers

Mate I’m an Aussie who FIFO’s 4/2 and I live in Thailand (mostly). One bonus you non AU’s may not realise is while earning in AU you pay 10.5% superannuation and because you will not be retiring in AU you can collect that cash on the way home. 👍

How can you be on a working holiday visa mate you look 45 haha also you can only be there for one year on that visa and you have to actually be holidaying not just working full time. On another note people, I personally know about 15 blokes that have at least one divorce and live paycheck to paycheck as ol mate says in this video the FIFO lads just blow all of their money on their time off whther that is just partying, gambling, going to bali or Thailand, getting tattoos, paying for a hotel on their time off as they don't have a permanent rental cor example or in most cases a combination of all of that. The most common story goes like this "ill just go do FIFO for a few years and save enough to get ahead then come back to a normal job" what ends up happening is 15 years later no missus divorced lonely some kind/s of addictions wosre off then when they started. And $33.50 per hour is almost minimum wage granted they do more hours and have no expenses but as i said they bjlowmit all on their time off ffs people earn that working in hospitality heck traffic controllers form roadworks can earn $50 an hour plus all of the penalties he just talked about

      $33.50 does seem pretty ordinary..
I suppose no cost of living expense takes the sting out of it though. In the city would a pissy 1 beddy would be worth $300/400..then utilities and food..vehicle,rego and fuel..

I was wondering why you hadn't grizzled about the tax side of things at start of video. Most fifo's are in the 37% tax bracket(over $135k/yr) & a lot get into the 45% tax(above $190k), which hurts after doing 6 x 12hr days & living in what's like a voluntary prison only to have govt take a big chunk. Also end of year tax time you might find your employer has claimed the tax back on your flights, which the gov't will now seek to be reimbursed from you.

But why is difficult to earn a FIFO job when you're not in Australia?

It’s not, monkeys get hired on minesites.. you just got no employable skills or experience.
