    I got a couple brothers who were fifos and as a 12 years sailor with 7 years of seatime, the grind is real. Every day is the same for weeks at a time. Long ass shifts, little downtime for gym and rest. No days off until back to shore. Seeing what it's like for FIFO workers really makes me appreciate you boys more, knowing what it's like to do the grind. Much respect!

      With so many aboard ship, how limited were your duties? If you're not driving, navigating or operating radar, it might be a lot of drill? Sorry if this is out of line, just curious.

    • @arefrigerator396
      @arefrigerator396 Год назад +3

      @@Jimmy911ism There are many roles on a ship in which you're tasked to. Your rate may take up most of you daily duties, but depending on what you're doing, it will mean you're either working 5x5, 4x4 shifts of something similar. Working four hours on, four off. That sort of thing. Or you'll do daily duties then go up on the bridge for Quartermaster tricks til early hours of the next morning. Some rates are good hours where they're just dayhands while others have such static hours. For example: a Coxswain will work early morn thru the day doing their duties and after dinner will be up in the bridge for the evening until very late. Finish, might go back down to their office to play catch up on paperwork before putting their head down for a few hours then wake up to do it all over again. On the other hand, a stores sailor is just a day hand with ancillary duties at night in case something goes wrong, or a sea evolution/exercise requires them.
      (Other ancillary duties such as Standing Sea Duty Watch, Fire party, ships medical emergency team, flight deck team, Boarding Party and others. They will often run these exercises and drills after hours so you're often up late practicing flood drills, fire and toxic gas drills or assisting in helicopter (helo) takeoffs and landings)
