- A little tutorial I did on how to fix creaking BMX cranks. Lots of customers complain about a weird noise coming from their 3 piece cranks. This tutorial shows you the proper tools to use to fix these easy problem. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing! My 2 month old big ripper started creaking all of a sudden when I would pedal standing up and it was driving me crazy. I tried greasing and tightening the pedals, and taking tension off the chain. Neither worked. Tried this and viola!! Nice and quiet!

I remember when I had my old gt bmx I was hill bombing and both of the pedals fell right off the bike. Turns out there was a 2 pieces of the thread missing, my uncle welded the pedal on and I sold the bike

Worked, thanks. Thought my sprocket was bent first, then perhaps it was my pedals. In the end, all i needed was some grease on the crank spindle.
Just bought a labomba worked fine took it back the next day because it was creaking and clicking. Now he loosened the chain and it's doing the same stuff all over again . I might try this

Great video. If you wanted to, could you only grease the spindle on the non sprocket side to avoid needing to loosen the wheel?
The side that creaks is usually on the chain side.

Yeah when I ride my 22mm Odyssey bb with my eclat Maverick cranks I get a sound on the right side mostly sounding like creaking but also popping or something so I take everything apart an retighten the sprocket an pedals make sure everything is okay then is fine for about 10 mins of solid feeling setup then happens again

can i use lube instead of grease?
If I do this and something is still creaking, what do you think that might be? I’ve installed a new chain. As bike is second hand but I’ve rebuilt most of it. The chain was originally on the same sprocket on another bmx, jus switched cranks onto this bmx along with chain, the rear cassette is different to the original

I took my bike to the shop and brought a new chain but it still made the same noise they said its the back wheel do I trust them or nah

I have a question... is that a sealed or unsealed bottom bracket?
My $600 bike has the exact same bottom bracket and it’s been making a creaking noice whenever I pedal. My guess is that there’s sand trapped inside the bearings but I’m not sure how to clean it. And how can I replace it with a sealed bottom bracket?
Make sure that it is NOT the pedals. If you greased the crank arms as shown in this video, and are certain that it is the bottom bracket, then you can disassemble the bottom bracket, and grease the bearings. Park Tools has excellent videos posted on RUclips which shows how to work on bicycles.
Ive bought my first bike recently and after a week appears noise when pedaling like at 4:48. Is it okay? Without a chain i have zero noise, rear hub seems okay, bb is sealed. Could it be chain? Sorry for bad English.

Maybe the chain is a little loose. Maybe the chain is too tight. The front chain drive sprocket might need spacers, to line up exactly with the rear sprocket. Sometimes replacing the rear wheel, the wheel is not exactly straight, causing a little offset angle between the sprocket on the rear wheel and the chain, and that will cause some grinding noises.
Also, some chain lubes are heavier, and thicker, and some are thin. The thicker chain lubes can help to quiet noisy chains. Sometimes, inexpensive sprockets, front or rear, will cause chain grinding noises.

My cranks are not creaking but they are making a loud noise when I peddle to the right side I have made sure they are nice and tight and together and they are still making loud noises and it feels weird to peddle how could I fix this ?

Jak Lunt its probably loose gravel stuck on the inside of the bearing just take them out wipe them down with a rag and regrease them.

So my cranks are making a loud strange sound. Last time it made that sound my cranks fell clean off. It's not much of a creaking but more of a clacking, like something is hitting together but I don't feel anything hitting. Idk what to do..

Maybe the bolt that holds the crank arms onto the bottom bracket are loose. Tighten them, and use blue thread locker to keep them tight.
Maybe the bottom bracket is loose, try tightening the bottom bracket, or perhaps the bearings are dry. If so, try greasing the bottom bracket bearings.
Basically, if the crank arms are tight, and the bottom bracket adjustment is correct, not loose, and you are hearing creaking, and feeling grinding, its bottom bracket bearings. The bearings may just need greased, they may need to be replaced. They take a beating!
Where can I get this kind of grease?
I want to have a bmx chrome again probably expensive but that look can last forever care for properly.

That is Park Tools grease. Any grease will do. Its on EBay, but its pricey.

Mario-Gamer Justin It can be considered a normal thing cause it happens over a period of time from the grease drying or turning to shit. and yes people do not like this because it makes there bike sound like shit and im sure nobody like there bike sounding like that

Can someone help? I greased my cranks spindles like 3 times so far. And the creaks go away for about half hour. Then the creaks start to come back. I'm 160 lbs. Got the bike 5 months ago. A fitbikeco
I have same issue so gave up and got mtb hollowtech 2 cranks perfect no issue

Tighten the crank arms bolts. If they are tight, and there is still a creaking noise, grease will dampen the noise, caused from the movement between the crank arm and the bottom bracket. There will be minimal wear caused from the tiny amount of movement between the crank arm and the bottom bracket. So, no, there will be minimal wear on the crank arm, if tightenened properly. The bottom bracket spindles are case hardened drop forged steel, and ain't gonna be affected. In my humble opinion. Ride on!
So I tightened them but it got worse chain keeps falling and keeps getting stuck
For some reason I tried it but it didn't work. When ever I pedal down it squeaks like its coming from the front end or something? I can only think I've over tightened something. Some help please 🙏

Idk but I also had too many spacers lol I had switched out my cranks and kept the spacers
I always tighten my cranks but I never greased it... Finally no creaking.
I got a BMX bike used I tightened the chain I went on a ride and when I go fast something makes a noise and I checked it and my chain was loose again does this fix that problem?
If its a new bike, the chain will stretch. New chains have to be re-tightened a few times.
If its an older chain, then maybe that wheel just was not tightened enough. Make sure there is no grease on the frame, at the wheel drop out.

If just the bolt is stripped, you can buy a new bolt, if the threads in the bottom bracket are stripped, you buy a new bottom bracket. You could bring it to a machine shop to get rethreaded, but would cost too much.

Any grease will work. I use waterproof marine type wheel bearing grease. The same type used on wheel bearings for boat trailers. You can get It at Wal-Mart.
The grease used in this video is Park Tools brand. Its excellent grease, but costs a lot more than buying the cartridges that are sized for use in grease guns.

That particular grease in the video is Park Tool PPL1.
Any grease will work. Waterproof greases work best, like marine type greases used on boat trailer bearings. The particular type of grease that Park uses is a polyurea based waterproof grease.
