The tape wrap around on the package is probably there to protect the cardboard from water damage. Otherwise the cardboard can get soggy and lose it's shape.
+ToastedBagelBaconJam Yeah, I'm workin' on it! It's pronounced "Ar-duh-boy", right? I don't think you'll be disappointed with this thing, it's a lot of fun and I'll make another video to cover more games I've found.
This is a good platform on which to learn programming. Rather than attempt to become the perfect programmer first, just start writing games. Programming skills are built over decades. Have fun and you will become better with time.
Yeah due to how Arduino works, it will be non-trivial to create a system which can load multiple games or programs. But perhaps eventually some games will be available as "multicarts".
Arduino boards are really only designed to hold a single program at a time, so I'm not sure they'd be able to hold more than a game at once - unless you were to upload a menu and several games all at once as a single program. That'd be cool if they made it work like that.
@@chloejackson-reynolds418 I'll just clear this up. You are right, Benjamin. Listen to Massimo (the creator of Arduino) pronounce it: ruclips.net/video/2X8d_r0p92U/видео.html It is named after King Arduino of Ivrea, King of Italy from 1002-1014. Massimo Banzi is italian and actually named it after a bar in Ivrea where he was working on the project. So it's named after a bar that is named after a king from the dark ages in italy. And the 'ui' is a dipthong, one syllable. 'Wee' rather than 'ooo-eee.'
+StopDrop I was reading on the forum, that there may not be a v2 Looks like their working on getting 3 colours working, but that eats up a lot of RAM (2.5k isn't much). IMO they could have put more ram or better video HW & screen. And removed a fire button and went with a mono speaker. It's cool tho.. but I'm on the fence BTW, you have the best video about it on youtube ;)
That is awesome! I've just recently learned about arduboy and I think its a great device. I love the oled display! Is that the one with the "1st edition" on the back?
+Logan Troxell Awesome! I got my reward too! It was nice of them to ship the early birds first, you usually don't see that. I hope you found some good games!
You are right on the money about the tape. I buy Ball Jointed Doll Clothes from Taobao through a proxy and they tape those boxes insanely. At least the stuff gets to me in stellar condition but it's crazy trying to get into them.
Back in the day liquidware made a kit like this but it had the arguing mega. It's good to see this is getting some support, but it needs a better way to load the games.
+Mightywhiskaz Well, you have put a membrane that has enough room to sit above the contact without touching it, so it wouldn't be that much of a difference.
I have followed this guide, and I seem to understand it better, but I don't like the thought of overwriting the game that was pre-installed on my Arduboy.... Blob Attack that is.
What happened to this device I wonder? Looks like a brilliant little unit, but probably now way way way overshadowed by the many Pi clones and similar based products.
Since this is an arduino based gadget, will you be able to work within the arduino programmer to make your own games? will you need to buy the dev kit to make games or will can you just own the actual console?
Looking to get my hands on one of these. Says preorders shipping in june. Seems like at this point it should just say order so I'm skeptical. Any info?
They should have been able to send out regular orders for a while now. They even made a slight redesign that looks more like a little GBA with a vertical screen and a licensed version of Tetris. I did get my final backer unit but I need to do a little more testing before I make a video.
+Alejandro Delgado I have a few handheld emulation consoles, so I don't have a big need for a GB Boy Colour but check out one of my earlier videos, I do have a regular GB Boy with the monochrome LCD screen!
+Alexas Murauskas No prob! Sorry again that it took so long! Raspberry Pi 2 is definitely better at what it does, but these two devices do completely different things.
+Sean Ocansey yeah, I use like 4 different pronunciations in the video to try to get it right. I usually say "Ard-oo-boy" but in a video I watched the creator pronounced it "Ard-uh-boy"
Area51UFOGynaecology It isn't junk, it just simply isn't meant for you. This is intended to be very simple, basic entertainment that is rather disposable because of its price and to be educational. It fills its purpose.
you funded the kickstarter but wouldn't pay extra for the dev kit but would go buy one from China really WTF support developers 100 percent not just 50 percent
"arduño" the spanish bootleg arduino rip-off
haha
StopDrop&Retro dare you to pin this comment oh the controversy!
The tape wrap around on the package is probably there to protect the cardboard from water damage. Otherwise the cardboard can get soggy and lose it's shape.
+Gcrowan Ahhhh, that makes sense. I've also received AliExpress items in plastic bubble wrap bags, so that sort of takes care of it too.
the way you pronounced arduino pained me, but great video! cant wait to buy an arduboy and dig into making and playing games
+ToastedBagelBaconJam Yeah, I'm workin' on it! It's pronounced "Ar-duh-boy", right? I don't think you'll be disappointed with this thing, it's a lot of fun and I'll make another video to cover more games I've found.
no, i didnt mind arduboy, its just ar-dune-yo really jarred me. i think im gonna preorder my own real soon
This is a good platform on which to learn programming. Rather than attempt to become the perfect programmer first, just start writing games. Programming skills are built over decades. Have fun and you will become better with time.
This looks really cool, have fun learning to code on it!
+David Knight I will! They're going to make some tutorials as well to teach people how to make games on it.
This system looks awesome! I might just pick one up when it releases.
+Prometheus Darkstar It's been pretty good to me, I'm looking forward to what people can do with this!
It's called packaging tape and it's being used as a moisture barrier

+dity ah, okay. And I have seen one game that has a menu with a few mini games in one, I hope to make another video featuring it soon!
+dity Self-reprogramming from an SD card. Uzebox & Gamebuino do that.
09:13 Yes. You are using 5 different pronunciations and they are all wrong.
Arr-Doo-eeno
or arr-dwee-no

Reverse Mermaid Hockey , is the best kind of Hockey!
+David Martinez It sounds like something lewd but the game is fun!
What a wonderful little thingy!
+Sean Wilkinson I'll be making another video about it soon!
+StopDrop
I was reading on the forum, that there may not be a v2

Is that the one with the "1st edition" on the back?
nope, this is the dev kit. I will review my backer edition in the next couple months, it's way overdue!!
StopDrop&Retro yeah i know its the dev kit. Is it this one those first kits used to be sold on tindie?
Thank you! Couldn't figure out how to upload a game. Got mine today!
At least the stuff gets to me in stellar condition but it's crazy trying to get into them.
what the clothes? or the boxes?.
you could likely boot it up give it your own custom made case and have a customised one.
Now I want to see Sensible Soccer ported to it!
Back in the day liquidware made a kit like this but it had the arguing mega. It's good to see this is getting some support, but it needs a better way to load the games.
Man you should get a better knife! But seriously, thanks for the great reviews!
thanks!
i pre-ordered my unit a few weeks ago but haven't got a tracking email yet, which means they probably haven't shipped it yet...
7:35 is why you are here.
Why use micro switches when a simple contact would work? Makes it thicker
+Mightywhiskaz Well, you have put a membrane that has enough room to sit above the contact without touching it, so it wouldn't be that much of a difference.
Mightywhiskaz it has to be made on a pick and place.
heres a probblem i use linux... so do i haft to get "WINE"(windows environment simulation) to run the windows programs or something?
They tape like that after it passes customs.
+3232mikeymike Ah, that could be it! Others thought it might be to keep it waterproof.
Does you have Arduboy yet ?
Yeah, I got it and I should have a review in the next few months. Other stuff keeps getting in the way
I have followed this guide, and I seem to understand it better, but I don't like the thought of overwriting the game that was pre-installed on my Arduboy.... Blob Attack that is.
this needs an lsdj
+jlebrech That would be awesome. Someone has already made some audio test files, I'll try to show them in the next video about this.
What happened to this device I wonder? Looks like a brilliant little unit, but probably now way way way overshadowed by the many Pi clones and similar based products.
Reminds me of teenage engineering's pocket operator
Is that damascus steel?
+Danny Perski It sure is! My mother found it one day and gave it to me.
Since this is an arduino based gadget, will you be able to work within the arduino programmer to make your own games? will you need to buy the dev kit to make games or will can you just own the actual console?
+Mark Ball the dev unit was just a pre-release, the retail can do everything these dev's can
+xpcoin Awesome. This is such a cool device.
Looking to get my hands on one of these. Says preorders shipping in june. Seems like at this point it should just say order so I'm skeptical. Any info?

That's funny because the website says: Pre-Order Shipping Soon!
Maybe Ill just take a chance.
Haha, now you can play with it if you get bored.
i bet this thing will get 67292086482927 versions of pong
Buy a GB boy colour instead. its really cool.
+Alejandro Delgado I have a few handheld emulation consoles, so I don't have a big need for a GB Boy Colour but check out one of my earlier videos, I do have a regular GB Boy with the monochrome LCD screen!
How much is it?
+Brennan Quick The dev kit was $50 and the console is $35 (I think). They'll be shipping very soon!
+StopDrop&Retro They are shipping! Ordered mine, I hope I will get one, because they said 500
Never use a knife before?
Samsung phone on Sony Bravia tv app
too bad the screen's not color and too bad i dont own a computer. i would've bought one
if you could install a version of Linux on your phone or tablet (if theyre android) and then install arduino on it and install games
meh i think raspberry pi 2 is better.
thanks again for steam code
+Alexas Murauskas No prob! Sorry again that it took so long!
Raspberry Pi 2 is definitely better at what it does, but these two devices do completely different things.
nice vid, but you pronounce arduboy weirdly
+Sean Ocansey yeah, I use like 4 different pronunciations in the video to try to get it right. I usually say "Ard-oo-boy" but in a video I watched the creator pronounced it "Ard-uh-boy"
PCB board printed circuit board board
$50? Jeez
the FUCK is an arduño?
Yeah put it in your wallet sit on it and break it and they get more sales
+allan fulton that's possible, I guess they expect me to keep it in my purse.
+allan fulton Yeah, I think they expect me to keep it in my purse.
what a piece of junk and the screen is super tiny, id rather play virtual boy as a portable system
Area51UFOGynaecology wow, dont judge a book bye it's cover
Area51UFOGynaecology It isn't junk, it just simply isn't meant for you. This is intended to be very simple, basic entertainment that is rather disposable because of its price and to be educational. It fills its purpose.
For a very small amount of extra money you can get a pocket chip, which is extremely powerful in comparison
Sabre MC that's a great argument. and holy crap how did that bye thing slip passed me 😕
you funded the kickstarter but wouldn't pay extra for the dev kit but would go buy one from China really WTF support developers 100 percent not just 50 percent
