Damn, things like that really mades you miss Jason in the band...
20 years of naff backing vocals since he left.
Yep.. That Jason energy was insane!
Rob is now 18yrs with Metallica, Jason was 15 years. But Rob to me still looks like a placeholder
Jason.... Just a bass-beast!!! They sound so fucking lame now... The guitar tones are complete ass these days...
Jason sings better than James.
89-93 metallica were absolutely untouchable
I literally said this yesterday to my buddy after watching my dvd version of binge and purge lol
You mean 89-94 ?
1980-2030 were best.
I would go back to 86 because of master of puppets. Their live performances were just as strong. You could make the argument there was a lull after master and before black due to material (not a fan of the 5.98 EP) though again live shows during the justice for all tour were not bad.
This is the year Hetfield's voice was at it's absolute peak.

I would not mind if Jason did vocals for Metallica. He's such a fucking beast.
@sluana1 I'll definitely check it out, i never knew.
I think anyone who has watched these old live shows would absolutely lose their shit if he did vocals on a new album
@sluana1 I hope you don't mean that as a bad thing. Jason is a great vocalist!
On the first S&M record, he does some backing vocals.
Check out a concert from Atlanta in 2000 James sat out with an injured back instead of canceling the show Jason took over on lead vocals and bass and members of kid rock helped out on rhythm guitar and vocals too
Jason is a pure beast. Best Metallica bassist in my opinion.
Well and your opinion he's pretty good but unless you seen Cliff live you really don't know what you're talkin about as a matter fact Cliff beats them anyway I was there
@@paulettelamontagne6992 R.I.P. Cliff. Taken away too soon.
*best metallica member
My favorite bassist from Metallica. Of course Cliff was the best. Rob is dope too. He brings his own extra energy.
Having hard time deciding which version I like best.
-Studio - Guitar sound so clean
- Seattle - So fucking fast
- San Diego - Jason is insane, solo sounds amazing
if you beg Bryce Barilla or Warhedd they might do an album cover of Whiplash in AJFA
Cliff era. Lars hammers the double kick right through the first guitar solo, whereas originally that section is single kick.
Absolutely correct

He was the glue that held them together and they shit all over him. Which is ok cuz they turned to absolute garbage after the black album
I have a feeling we'll see him on stage with the boys again one day....possibly on a farewell tour. I have faith that will happen.

Its funny cause in a interview Kirk says "Kurt Cobain is waving his arms asking "Will you play wiplash?" And thats just what we did that night for him." So Kurt got his favorite song played by Metallica. Pretty Damn Cool.

Jason kicks ass here. Best bassist they had I think. Controversial I know but he was great.
Just my opinion here….When it comes to the technicality, and sound that comes from Rob, it’s insane, he sounds a lot like Cliff, BUT Jason’s energy and vocals are out of this world!!
Thousands of people, not one on a cellphone,FUCKING GLORIOUS
+Skidtire Because this is way before cell phones. lol
+Rob Covello First cellular phone was made in 1973 buddy.
Yea I know. But they werent as widely available and had by everyone in 1992 than today.
Buddy.
Rob Covello I Know, but you said this was before cellphones, However they were not mainstream till much later.
I love how whenever they play this song live James says "We'll never quit, we'll never stop cuz YOU'RE Metallica." They're definitely a band that loves their fans.
But James is right!! Metallica started out as just 4 dudes in a band. But Metallica grew larger than life with their fan base. Those original 4 guys were the spark. The fans became the flame that has NEVER burned out.
Metallica will live on forever.
@@gingerwood1969 I find it hilarious that you think this old Metallica still exists. They were great but turned into a bunch of sore losers who didnt hesitate to bash their own fans. Yeah that's why they sued their fans who were downloading their songs.
@danijel8593 They only sued Napster because they were leaking songs before they came out, Lars said himself that he didn't care If people were downloading their music, just wait till the album came out.
I really think this band is going to be famous one day. These young men definitely have something
Nice try they were pretty famous at that date.

He was a beast back then , now hes just an old man who plays drums but no where near the drummer he was in the 80/90s
i don't understand a single thing Jason is saying but boy howdy am i loving it
As much as I like Trujillo, every time I see Newsted do things like on this song I wonder: why the fuck did they let him go, why the fuck did they treat him like shit? He was fucking epic.
Jason was such an underrated bassist. Too bad the rest of the band treated him like shit for so long. I don't blame him for leaving at all. Newstead was a beast though!
Well, he is probably their worst bassist, but in Live, he was worth 12 persons
Well let's see, if I was the greatest band in the world and lost the greatest metal bassist in the world, I'd act like that too. Jason was good but Cliff was better and faster and he only used fingers, no pick.
All bassists who plays with a pick are underrated.
If "Jason" feel shame about how they treated him, he was a free guy to leave the band in 1990 and not 2001.. But i guess the money was very high to did such a thing and i dont blame him.. Yeah they did to him very bad things but i believe any person on this planet can protect himself and jason did the opposite. And when the band was in very deep s*** in early 00s he decide to leave with purpose to disband them.. That was bad.. Very bad and for that "James" cant forgive him.. Because he waiting the right momment to hurt the band and all fans out there.. For that i cant respect jason too .. If he leave in the beggining yes im pretty sure i was with him.. But now not.. And if you have a little mind in your head perhaps your comment never exist here..

While Rob is a better bassist than Jason, Jasons stage presence and charisma is unmatched. Thats why I miss him in Metallica so much
Both great bass players for Metallica, just different styles.
just because jason didnt show all his skils performing with metallica, doesnt mean that rob is better. people really think that jason couldnt play with fingers..
Call me crazy, but I think his stage presence is more powerful than that of James.
Im 43 and I've been a fan since I was 18. This is still brutal.
im 19 now recently been getting into metallica so good.
Im 46 and Jason is GOD
I fucking love the little growls he used to do 1:53
Tom Angelripper still does it
do that for 2 1/2 hours 4 nights a week for the better part of 15 years.... and you can understand why Metallica is what it is today...
Nice to see someone with a bit of sense on a Metallica video.
+penoyer79 They're still the tits today
No excuses, man. Although the 'tallica boys are my fav'rite band of 'em all, they don't get a free pass. Most of their contemporaries still do this, and they're not lacking. Metallica just got lazy and comfy, once they decided to become Metallica, Inc. fulltime after the Death Magnetic album cycle.
you could say the same for slayer
penoyer79 no excuses. overkill, testament, exodus, flotsam and jetsam, etc. play sets that are just as long and are just as old as metallica. metallica just got lazy and are too rich to embrace the passion they once had
2:57 holy shit jasons vocals were insane!
Jason newstead best Metallica bass player who still alive.
Look at the people literally just running around the arena jumping, throwing their arms in the air, spinning and just fucking THRASHING around while giving high fives to the people in the upper rows.
Everybody who attended this concert went home and woke up sore as fuck the next day lol
Hahahahahaha, I won't be surprised if that is what happened
Kurt sure was having a blast! 😁
I think RT is a great bassist but Jason man, he is on another level in this live performance, 100% attitude
They were all crazy back then. But they are still Metallica 😌 even if the boys are in their 50s. Still bringing metal to us 🤘🤘🤘
Roberto is a great bass player but Jason is just next gen.
Cliff was the best musician, Jason was the best performer, and Robert is the best player

1992 was when Metallica rules the world. Jason newsted vocals are incredible whiplash is his song on the vocals live. Mosh pits were popular because of Metallica they started a revolution and it still true today. Love this guys Chicago 2024.
