    Kings and Generals began remaking its animated historical documentary on the history of the Ottoman empire with the early rise of the Ottoman beylik under Osman I. In the first video we covered the early origins of the beylik, its status among the Muslim states in Anatolia and its early clashes against the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire at Bapheus and Dimbos in 1302 ( • Rise of the Ottoman Em... ). The second episode showed how a tiny beylik became a regional power with the continued battles against the Byzantine empire and other states, including the siege of Prusa (Bursa) between 1317 and 1326 and the battle of Pelekanon of 1329 ( • How the Ottomans Took ... ). As the Ottoman entered the Balkans, they had to face the Serbian Empire and the Second Bulgarian Empire, leading to the battles like Maritsa in 1371 ( • Maritsa 1371 - End of ... ). The Ottomans continued expanding both in Europe and Asia, leading to the conflicts with many states, including the Karamanids, culminating at the battle of Frenkyazisi in 1387 ( • Ottoman Expansion in A... ). As the Ottomans managed to defeat their enemies in Anatolia, they now had time to fight against the burgeoning Balkan alliance that formed against them with Lazar Hrebeljanovic of the Moravian Serbia at its head. His confrontation with the sultan Murad I would led to the battle of Kosovo in 1389 ( • Battle of Kosovo 1389 ... ). In the aftermath of Kosovo, Bayezid I takes the power and continues campaigns both in Anatolia and the Balkans. The events in Anatolia culminate at the battle of Kirdilim of 1391, where the Sultan defeats his Turkic opponents led by Kadi Burhaneddin. The Ottomans became the sultans of Rum getting the title of the Seljuks ( • How the Ottomans Becam... ). Afterwards the Sultan continued campaigning in Europe, leading to the first major Ottoman defeat at Rovine in 1395 against the Voivode of Wallachia, Mircea the Elder ( • First Major Ottoman De... ). Despite that, the Ottoman advance in Europe continued and to counter it, the king of Hungary Sigismund called a crusade joined by many nobles and retinues from the Balkans, France and beyond. This led to the so called Crusade of Nicopolis - the last major crusade and the battle of Nicopolis in 1396 ( • How the Ottomans Defea... ). In the aftermath, Bayezid had a free rein and he blockaded Constantinople. The Roman emperor Manuel II Palaiologos decided to travel to Europe to get help, but got no help in the West.

    Great stuff as always. I never knew the Byzantium Emperor voyaged for 3 years while Constantinople was under blockade. Also, one of the reasons why Beyazıd wanted to conquer Anatolian Beyliks is that he wanted to focus on his Western campaigns by getting rid of the Beys that try to undermine him whenever they get a chance. He also needed fresh troops and supplies.

      Anekdote from wikipedia when the two met:
      When Timur saw Bayezid, he laughed. Bayezid, offended by this laugh, told Timur that it was indecent to laugh at misfortune; to which Timur replied: "It is clear then that fate does not value power and possession of vast lands if it distributes them to cripples: to you, the crooked, and to me, the lame

    Contrary to the popular view among Turks today, as a Turk I strongly sympathize and respect the Byzantine people and defenders of Constantinople of its later days. Against all odds and even though near certain defeat is obvious, the did not try to land the city and imperium to Ottomans, they prefered fighting until the last breech. If you compare this to how the Ottoman Empire was ebolished de facto, the last emperor/khalif leaving Konstantiniyye in a British (invader) vessel, leaving the city to become Istanbul under a new Turkish regime who treaded Ottoman dynasty not much better than how revolution era French people treaded French monarchy, Byzantines deserve nothing but respect to me as an armchair nobody from 21st Century. :)

    Some Bulgarian historians believe that a semi-independent Bulgarian state (Tsardom of Vidin) existed at least until 1420s and the last Tsar actually was Constantine II Asen, Ioan Sratsimir's son. Constantine II Asen was crowned co-emperor by his father and managed to consolidate some Bulgarian lands under his rule until his death in 1422.
    He and his cousin Fruzhin, son of Ivan Shishman, were part of the Order of the Dragon and at one point lived in the Hungarian court of Sigizmund the Fox. Fruzhin later on fought in the battle of Varna in 1444.
    In the Boyana obituary list, written in the 15th century in the Dragalevtsi Monastery, the last Bulgarian Tsars are named "Asena Tsar" (meaning Constantine II Asen) and "Fruzhina Tsar", referring to his cousin Fruzhin.

    Is this the first time that this channel is about to cover the same battle (Ankara) thrice? Will be very interesting to see how they handle the aftermath in more detail this time.
    Also, if you guys are looking at other interesting alternative history series I think "Bayezid defeats and captures/kills Timur, goes on to settle his eastern border, takes/starves Constantinople soon after and thus starts pushing the Ottoman steamroller into Europe half a centrury earlier than OTL" would be a pretty interesting one given the lay of the land in Europe around 1400 in my opinion.

And send expeditions to new world

    • @masterplokoon8803
      @masterplokoon8803 11 месяцев назад +12

      Not really at this point the Hungarian kingdom was still pretty fearsome before all the disastrous policies that turned it into easy prey for Suleiman, atacking earlier would mean a much stronger Hungary. Plus Bayezid didn't have yet the artillery to breach the Theodosian walls. Plus that alternate reality is just build on assumptions upon assumptions as if the European powers didn't have any agency. And the Ottomans were never interested in the New World for them the Mediterranean and the middle east were the main goals.

    • @Batuhanify
      @Batuhanify 11 месяцев назад

      @@masterplokoon8803 Ottomans being uninterested in the New World is mainly due to the geographic and technological difficulties to be honest. Western Ship building had already overtaken the Eastern ship building even in Bayezid's time, and the future Ottoman naval dominance of the Mediterranean was mainly due to the amount of ships and ports, and talented admirals, not technology. In the maps of Piri Reis, America is named as a Vilayet, a province. This is indicative that if they had the means, they would expand in the new world.
      Secondly, Ottomans had far reaching interest in the world that wasn't limited to the Balkans and the Middle-East. Expeditions to India and Indonesia is proof that Ottoman Sultans were interested in expanding their sphere of influence way beyond those borders suggest. For these eastern expeditions, shipbuilding technology was once again a deciding factor although not as severely as it would have been in the Atlantic Ocean. I think Kings&Generals actually have a documentary on this.
      Suffice it to say, if the Ottomans had the opportunity to expand into the New World, they would have. A geographical, technological and even economical lack of means prevented this from happening, not Ottomans being focused on just Mediterranean. But OP's post suggests he views the Ottomans as an unstopable force. They were well led, well equipped and definitely were of higher organisation compared to their contemprories at the time, but this does not mean West didn't catch up, and eventually surpass the Ottomans. And Logistic has always been a nightmare of the Ottomans, especially in the Balkans, which was a major obstacle in Suleiman I's efforts to capture Vienna which was never solved.

      Well, Timur was strategically superior and a step ahead of Bayezid, let alone Bayezid's troops betraying him. His army was already exhausted, hungry and thirsty, reducing their fighting power and morale. Timur taught the Ottomans much, especially how to reestablish a nation after a disaster. That's one of the reasons why Ottomans could survive for hundreds of years. Albeit, the Hungarian Kingdom was a remarkable enemy back then, it's not a child's play to stretch your hand to Grenada and America within that circumstances.

      @@masterplokoon8803 he didn’t need to take Constantinople, just keep them in check, the ottoman army was huge in bayezids time and bayezid could’ve crushed the Hungarians quite easily, when he fought timur he had 80k-150k troops the ottoman army decreased in size due to civil war, but had they won they could’ve directed this at europe
      Suleiman just had to finish it off, pretty sure mehmet would do the job for him he could’ve took rome
