I've learned so much today just by watching a few of your tutorial! I have a question about assigning different tags to external & internal walls... Hi, I would just need some clarification on editing component > make unique. Once you complete editing, how do you save this unique component. Is it saved automatically in components tray? Thank you for creating a simplified version on Sketchup. All the best!
Yes, when you make the component unique, it is considered a new component and you can find it in your Components browser as a separate component from the original instance.

Hi Jobyna 👋, you can find the 2D symbols file on the 3D Warehouse here: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/786f8852-ff9b-4848-9625-e9047efc99da/2D-Interior-Symbols-for-Floor-Plans
HELP! I've searched everywhere I can think of within the application and essentially everywhere I can think via google...how on earth do you pull up the "Components Browser" or "Components Window" on Make 2017? Everything I've looked at seems to show options that don't exist (anymore?)
If you need to create a floor plan at a specific scale, you would want to bring your SketchUp flooor plan into LayOut - the 2D documentation tool that is included with SketchUp Pro. In LayOut, you can set the scale for your drawings.
Mac and Windows is set up different. How do you add tags to groups? Just doing the floor and exterior walls, I highlight and make the floor and walls a group, then click add tag but there is already a tag that is (uneditable?) Haha that tag is attached to the floor, but not the walls, and I can't seem to attach the floor and the walls into one tag.... Do you have a windows version tutorial? Your tags section is different, with more options. I have no drop downs in my "tags" tab (Sketch up pro 2021)
After I draw my floor and go to add the exterior walls, I am told my object isn't solid. I've read elsewhere that it needs to be a group or component in order for it to be a solid. But even after making my floor rectangle a group or component, I'm still being told it isn't solid so I can't use the offset tool. What gives?
You don't need to have a solid in order to use the offset tool. The offset tool won't work outside of the Group - you need to use it directly on the face (if that face is inside a group, then you need to be in Edit Group mode). If you continue to have trouble, send us a message at team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will try to help.
The full set of SketchUp for Interiors courses are available in our Video Course Library. You can learn more about the Video Course Library on our website here: www.sketchupschool.com/video-course-library
The easiest way to do this is to take your floor plan into LayOut (which is the 2D documentation tool that comes with SketchUp Pro). There you can set your drawing scale and your paper size so that you can print out the proper scale.
These are 2 years ago videos. Basic functions remain the same, but how to get to them and use them constantly change. That will continue to be the most difficult part of Sketchup, the useless changes. There is no need or better use for the silverware drawer to be moved.
Yes, we aim to create as timeless of videos as possible, but do have the need to update them when SketchUp changes something about the user interface so that we try to help new users avoid confusion.
You are probably zoomed far away from it. So roll your mouse wheel forward to zoom-in and you should see you have a square... you were just really far away from it.
Please i can't seem to be able to download the 2d products on the 3d warehouse. It keeps showing " it's empty" "try adjusting your search parameters or reset your filter" I clicked "reset filter" but still no improvement
You can find the 2D symbols on the 3D Warehouse here: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/786f8852-ff9b-4848-9625-e9047efc99da/2D-Interior-Symbols-for-Floor-Plans
So here are 2 questions. When working in 2d moving a group or a component often the color of the floor will try to bleed through. Is there any way to correct this without working in 3 dimensions? In other software I would change the layer order. When I have a surface completely encapsulated by lines, like being surrounded by other rooms, sometimes sketchup will not make that area an entity/surface. I can weld all the lines together and that does not seem to fix the issue and just creates others. I often am left with manually dividing the space up with lines into smaller spaces until the whole thing is filled. Then I delete all the lines and that surface sometimes stays. Is there a better way of doing this?
We are happy to try to help. There are enough details in these questions that the best way for us to help is if you send us an email at team@sketchupschool.com and then one of our instructors will try to help.
The best way to add dimensions to a floor plan and then save it to a file format like a PDF would be to use LayOut (which comes with SketchUp Pro) to add the dimensions and export the PDF.
this looks like it's tuned to Mac users or at least a different version to mine, groups don't come up the way as stated & what are components & how do I get the toolbar down the side. looks like it's all going downhill since Trimble bought it out!
While the Mac and PC interfaces differ, the Groups menu should work pretty similarly. Also, if you don't have the tools on the side, that's a setting that can be turned on in your top menu under View > Toolbars... then check on the Large Toolset. If you have any other trouble following along, send us a message at team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will be happy to help!
@@SketchUpSchool Thanks, frustrating to start with, slowly learning. Biggest annoyance is my habit of trying to move the view with the centre mouse button. 😉
@@SketchUpSchool First of all, fantastic video! Thank you! I am a Mac user and also have the problem with not seeing the entire menu which you used to label your groups in this video. The top half of the window is there but the bottom half where you typed the group name is not. I also cannot change the group from untagged since there is nowhere to enter a name. Is this a feature that the free version does not have perhaps?
Is it just me and my newbie brain that find it odd to start measuring the whole floorpans interior dimensions and afterwards adding interior walls? I find it if not hard then impractical to measure an apartments total dimensions because of all interior walls.
You can certainly approach it the way that you are most comfortable. It is easier to learn SketchUp when you start with the whole floor first because you can start with two simple guidelines and then start to add more detail from there. But I suggest you go with the approach that makes more sense for you as SketchUp is flexible to work however you do.
Assuming that you are talking about page numbers in LayOut... So in LayOut, in your top menu go to File > Document setup > Auto-text > Page number, Start page and you can set it to start numbering from the second page.
You'll find them in the 3D Warehouse at this link: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/786f8852-ff9b-4848-9625-e9047efc99da/2D-Interior-Symbols-for-Floor-Plans
Not exactly: We would recommend using SketchUp and LayOut together for the best 2D drafting experience. However, there are a number of people who just want to get something done in SketchUp quickly without having to involve LayOut - so we wanted to show how that is possible.
The rectangle tool does NOT work as in the video. It ONLY worked on the left side of the 2D floorplan's measurements (far left wall), NOT on the right side where the window was to be placed. Why would it act so stupid like that, and only allow use on ONE WALL!?!? Another fun one...at 8:37, it is IMPOSSIBLE to move jack shit..why??...hate to say it, but you cluelessly left out that you GROUPED the window! Sucky video that leaves out some key stuff unfortunately, adding to the frustration that you supposedly are trying to remove.
If the rectangle tool is defaulting to drawing from the center, it just means that you've accidentally hit the Control key (on a PC) or the Option key (on a Mac) which turns on the function to draw from center. Just press that key again when you have the Rectangle tool and it should go back to the original default. Once you have that working, the rectangle tool does work both when you are drawing from the left side and from the right side.

Hey,
I’m wondering how the floor plan is put into the layout for the 1.20 scale rule?
I couldn’t find helpful in myself
If you need to create a floor plan at a specific scale, you would want to bring your SketchUp flooor plan into LayOut - the 2D documentation tool that is included with SketchUp Pro. In LayOut, you can set the scale for your drawings.
Mac and Windows is set up different. How do you add tags to groups? Just doing the floor and exterior walls, I highlight and make the floor and walls a group, then click add tag but there is already a tag that is (uneditable?) Haha that tag is attached to the floor, but not the walls, and I can't seem to attach the floor and the walls into one tag....

Right click on the entity in SketchUp and pick the menu option Entity Info.
On the time: 3:15 - i want to erase an area or use the subtract tool. But its not working. Can some one help me? :-)
To erase a face or surface, you right click on it and pick the option for Erase.
I learned so much. What app is this because I can't find it in the Apple Store.
SketchUp isn't in the Apple Store. You can find it on their website here: sketchup.com/
Please i can't seem to be able to download the 2d products on the 3d warehouse. It keeps showing " it's empty" "try adjusting your search parameters or reset your filter"
I clicked "reset filter" but still no improvement

@@SketchUpSchool ok thanks 😊
Make a group or component and try
@@VV-bp9hq I mean I did and didn't see one. Which is why I thought to ask
How can we save it with all the dimensions listed?
The best way to add dimensions to a floor plan and then save it to a file format like a PDF would be to use LayOut (which comes with SketchUp Pro) to add the dimensions and export the PDF.
@@SketchUpSchool thank you
Can't see any of your comments. Looking for the startup library.

this looks like it's tuned to Mac users or at least a different version to mine, groups don't come up the way as stated & what are components & how do I get the toolbar down the side. looks like it's all going downhill since Trimble bought it out!
How do you label them rooms?
If you are using SketchUp Pro, the best way is to send your SketchUp model to LayOut and label your rooms there.
How do you get page numbers to start from the second page and not include the cover page?
Assuming that you are talking about page numbers in LayOut... So in LayOut, in your top menu go to File > Document setup > Auto-text > Page number, Start page and you can set it to start numbering from the second page.
wahat about the line graphics
Where is the library of 2d items you made?
You'll find them in the 3D Warehouse at this link: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/786f8852-ff9b-4848-9625-e9047efc99da/2D-Interior-Symbols-for-Floor-Plans

So what you are saying is do not use layouts for 2d drafting. Just use sketchup because whatever!
Not exactly: We would recommend using SketchUp and LayOut together for the best 2D drafting experience. However, there are a number of people who just want to get something done in SketchUp quickly without having to involve LayOut - so we wanted to show how that is possible.
mukamu rada tidak bersahabat kak
