    1st off Woody, don't get serious. Our world right now is 95% serious, 5% fun, easy going & stress reducing. You are such an accomplished professional on a multitude of fronts. What's most impressive about you is how real you are, the at times child like enthusiasm you have for life, you're one of a kind. You make us laugh, you teach us, you learn from us. We love you the way you are. You and Gus are phenomenal. You both have made an important impact on people through your humor, teaching and caring. Never, ever bend, never, ever change. Either one of you.

    The reason the LIDAR mapping device isn't "on all the time" is because it sends out pulses of light and reads how much light is reflected back at the device. It pauses between pulses because it needs to read the reflection of the last pulse before it sends out another so it can accurately tell how far away objects in the cave are.

    • @MegaFPVFlyer
      @MegaFPVFlyer Год назад +5

      I know this is old, but it's likely that the flashing is to conserve battery or something similar. The light takes microseconds to return at this distance, so if they wanted, the laser could be flashed hundreds if not thousands of times per second. I'm guessing that they took a hit on resolution to improve some other aspect of the device.
      One thing thats strange, however, is that they're using visible light. Most LIDAR systems I've seen use invisible lasers. Perhaps those wavelengths don't travel as well through water? I'm not sure.

    • @Nilboggen
      @Nilboggen Год назад +2

      @MegaFPVFlyer I agree I think its in the visible range of light due to it having to go through water.

    • @MegaFPVFlyer
      @MegaFPVFlyer Год назад +3

      @Nilboggen did some digging and it looks like blue light travels furthest through water. I guess that's kinda obvious in hindsight since everything looks blue once you go down a bit.

    • @Nilboggen
      @Nilboggen Год назад +4

      @@MegaFPVFlyer Oh and I almost forgot as far as the flashing, don't forget we are watching filmed footage of the light blinking which is probably in 30 or 60 fps and although we can see the blinking in the footage, actually being there you may not be able to perceive the blinking.

    Gus - whatever you are doing right now is working bro. You look fantastic. I'm on a similar journey right now.
    I'm a former professional athlete. As a young kid I was grossly overweight, but seemingly overnight I grew into my body. I was 6'2" by age 13. Started lifting weights and playing basketball and everything just fell into place. By my mid 20's my professional athletic career was over, but I was still able to eat and do whatever I wanted and still easily maintain my physique.
    Then I turned 30 and things started becoming more challenging. Still though, I was more "in shape" than 90% of US adult males.. then once again, at age 35, seemingly overnight everything changed. I once again became grossly overweight.
    I'm 37 now, 6'4" and 300 lbs. This is after losing almost 30 lbs over the course of the last 2 weeks. My blood pressure was hovering around 160 / 120 for about a year (completely untreated). I was drinking 6-8 diet cokes every single day. Working 60+ very stressful hrs in retail management every single week. I was literally standing on the edge and primed to stroke out at any moment. I was terrified to go to the doctor and I kept putting it off.
    The funny thing is how quickly I was able to turn things around. Once I was basically forced to see a doctor by my family, I learned that my health situation wasn't nearly as dire as I expected (outside of the Stage 3 Hypertension, obviously). Cut out the diet cokes, started drinking a gallon of cold water every day, stopped binge eating altogether, stopped eating late at night. Found the motivation to get back in the gym. It sucked for 2 or 3 days but then I was all in. Now I don't even want any of that garbage because it would compromise the results I'm already seeing.
    Getting the ball rolling is always very challenging, but once you've got some momentum it isn't difficult. I have no clue why I felt compelled to share all of this with you, but here we are. I love hearing all about other people's weight loss journeys so I figured I'd tell you about my own. Seriously though, you are killing it Gus. Please keep going, you're a huge motivation for me. I wish you the absolute best.

    To answer Gus's question i think you can see him activating the scan with his right hand on the footage. Awsome video as always 👌🙂.

    React to some of Xavier Meniscus record dives in France! There is no coverage on this guy and what he does on restrictions at -200m is simply insane.

    If I had to guess as to why he doesn't keep it on is because he doesn't need to, save for the occasional large formation, he only needs to occasionally update the current surroundings for a few inches. Saves on battery and storage, but results in a lower quality image...

    Love you guys and the videos. Just came across you couple of weeks ago. Thanks to you I have a dream of going diving some day. Need to get cleared from doctors first, since I have asthma and some other health issues. And obviously I'm not planning to get deeper than 10-15 feet at first. I'm from Germany btw, guess you like to see what audiences you attract.

    Imagine this is like LiDAR. Each pulse is a measurement. A consistent measurement would mean you would have to have a lot of battery for the light, and then a big enough card for the data. I’m sure he’s calculated the power and data capacity to time each “blink” of the light.

    Hey guys! Just subbed after noticing I've been watching a lot of videos without being subbed.. And in one of those videos, you guys mentioned you could be scaring people away from caves by reacting to a lot of "grim" stuff, and that reacting to some cave certification videos could be cool. With that in mind, I searched if you had reacted to Jonathans cave certification video from Blue World, and I didn't find it on the channel, soooo?

    Hey guys I loved that intro, I was hanging on every word! Sorry I haven't even seen the video! I'm such a nerd. Watching those bubbles getting sucked into the entrance was about as foreboding a place as you could see. I would always survey the cave before entering it. I would never enter a virgin cave much less an underwater one with suction. hahaha
