Older video I know, but I am currently deciding between the same trailers you went over & I REALLY appreciate the honest, straightforward, reasoning you went through to come to your decision. I have 0 time for people who try to be "influencers," or part of a "Fan Club," and trash a company/product to artificially inflate another. I was dead set on a Meaner Bean for a very long time because of all of the really quality things you get with them, but simply couldn't rationalize the purchase price for something I can't stand up in, lol. Cheers.
I really like your setup and it looks great. Curious if you looked at any of the companies in the southeast. There is the XTR made in either Georgia or Alabama and there is the Tiny Camper Co in Florida. Just curious. Thanks
Great review. Im currently in the research phase of picking up an off road trailer. Ive been looking at High Altitude Trailers partly bc I rented one for a few days while camping in CO. I dont like the nobo 10.6...construction just doesnt seem off road worthy. The Mean Beaner looks good but a long wait time...which brings me to the Escapade...any reason you sold it off rather quickly? How are the seams? Im in PA...us east coasters get a lot more rain than those CO and Utah guys. And with our east coast humidity...AC is a must. The High Altitudes dont offer it...no reason for it camping in the high rockies. Just really wondering why you didnt keep it...love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
Thanks for your comment! Selling it for us had nothing to do with performance or quality but mainly use. My teen boys are just not into the outdoors like they were when younger. So rather than tie up cash to this setup, we downsized to a rooftop tent on my truck. With the seamless fiberglass shell, you should be worry free about leaks or water. I have no reservations about the product or recommending to you. Good luck with your purchase!
How do compare sleeping in the trailer vs. the rooftop tent? I've been looking at the Escapade with a similar set up. I like that they have a bunk option as we have 2 small kids.
The insulation inside camper is great in cooler weather. it is also quieter. ARTT will give you a more connected to the outdoors feel. The bunk bed option is a great add on if you have little ones. You really can't go wrong with either but the camper trailer is definitely a more comfortable set up.
I sold it because I have 3 teenage sons who seem to have temporarily lost interest in the outdoors. I'm hoping they get it back but until then, we have downsized our setup for 3. I didn't make any profit but didn't lose much either :)
I've recently looked at the Escapade Camper and am still considering it. In hind sight are there other options you would have selected and why? Other than the vent fan, any items that you were disappointed with?
Thad, Good question! I actually wanted the Meaner Bean camper beantrailer.com/meaner-bean-off-road/, but with much longer lead time and slighter higher pricing (but more options available) I went with the escapade. Other than the fan, the one important thing I learned was that one AGM battery wasn’t enough to comfortably run the fan and fridge off grid when we were overcast with a 100w solar panel. I would go either two batteries or lithium and 200w panels. Hope that helps! Good luck with your search.
@@thevarsitydad6634 I may also add if you're going more the solar route items like the Jackery 1000 are a lifesaver. I started out with just a deep cycle battery and one 110w panel and was kind of disappointed with the performance then I got my Jackery and 3 more 110w panels now I can run a window AC unit just on the panels and use the battery later that night.
I'm wondering if your composite floor continued to off-gas when you owned it. I'm asking because we bought the Backcountry X in October and the floor still stinks. I think I will have to put a vinyl floor down on top of it to 'seal' it in. I do love the build quality otherwise and I've done a lot of mods to it.
@@thevarsitydad6634 I did about a month after picking up the camper and Briana said to air it out and it should be gone in a few weeks but that has never happened. Did your camper have 'the stinks', too? I'm considering laying down a nice vinyl flooring over it to seal it in.
Hey@@gyposse , it still has the odor although it has dissipated over time. Having the insulated floor is a nice feature. We make a point of airing it out every nice day just crack the windows and truthfully, when we're camping it's generally open so we don't smell it. However, after we parked it and it's closed up for a while, you know it's off-gassing. With that said, we absolutely love that rig. I've done a lot of mods on it including blowing out the back wall and moving it forward 3" so I could fit heavy duty pull out glides for the refrigerator and camp stove/kitchen I built. I dropped a custom built 30-gallon water tank underneath, water pump, propex heater, quick disconnect propane with lines running to all three devices and I'm in the process of wiring solar to a new lithium battery. We just came back from a few nights on the Outer Banks and are planning our next venture out. Knowing that the floor is off-gassing, the real question is, would we buy it again? Yep, absolutely.
Have a question.....with the rooftop tent on the camper can you feel it when people are moving up top in the tent and you are inside...just wondering if you feel alot of movement Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. Glad the review was helpful. Enjoy the outdoors!
Great review and points that helped you decide. Thanks.

I looked at pretty much all of them...but when I factored in price, design, and lead time, the escapade was hard to beat.

You sold it already? Did you get a chance to use it? Did you make any money on it? I bet it went quick.

Hi BruLew, do you still have your escapade camper? How long did it take for the smell to go away?

There is a subtle shift if you have adults on top. Less with children.
Yeah....It's a 18month lead time now...screw it my kids will be grown...haha - Sweet rig and nice vid - Subbed
yikes! good luck with your purchase and thanks for the sub!
Holy crap I just picked up my Backcountry in January and the wait was 3 months. Demand must have exploded. Probably for the new no wood version.
@@jasonb2934 not surprising. they make a great product!
