      IMO, it goes to show that people don't actually hate changing the race of a main character. They hate when the actor doesn't really bring anything to the role and it ends up feeling like a DEI hire.
      But Idris Elba truly BECAME Roland Deschain

    People seem to think Roland is teaching the kid how to be a Gunslinger. He is not. He is teaching him how to focus his mind and set his intent. The Creed is just the only language he has to do this with.

      @@ThaFashionAssassin I was kinda thinking "Yes, but no" to OPs comment. I DO feel like the books imply that Jake, Eddie, and Susie were born/destined to be Gunslingers.

    This scene had to be one of the best and only right things about this movie. Themes of mentor and father are touched subtlety in this scene, as Roland teaches Jake the lessons of a gunslinger while seeing flashbacks of his own father Steven, reminding him, he hasn't forgotten the face of his father: Not while the Tower still stands.......not while you still stand.''

    • @alexmanning9961
      @alexmanning9961 5 лет назад +13

      I completely agree. It was one of the few things they got right about the film. I don't know why, but when I hear his father's voice cut in it just reminds me of of some of the epic emotional moments of Lord of the Rings. It kind of reminds me of Aragorn giving hope to Boromir as he's dying. Gives me goosebumps.

      @@dreamer2260 Man, I wonder if this was the result of studio involvement or not. Because scenes like this make me think the Director "got it." But the rest was just a muddled mess. But you're right, had they stayed true there would have been so many awesome moments. I mean, the Man In Black's speech about size at the end of the Gunslinger would have been so perfect for MM to execute on screen.

    • @dreamer2260
      @dreamer2260 5 лет назад +2

      Alex Manning yeah it’s a good point about the studio. I blamed it kinda on the director and his team more, but yeah I think the studio definitely pushed to take as few risks as possible.
      Yeah absolutely and it would’ve been absolutely unique in a blockbuster fantasy/action film. That’s what annoys me; the film could’ve been so unique. The books defy definition by genre and throw out convention in a really thrilling way for me, but instead of adapting those books and creating a film people would be surprised by, would get them talking etc., instead they made a film that was basically as generic as possible. So yh a shame. Still hold out hope for a real adaptation at some point tho!

      Those are custom made cartridge conversion double action Remmingtons (at least in the movie). Plus, mind you that the gunslingers trained like some kind of soldiers, and Roland is the best of them (in the book). It's not impossible to beat soldiers if you are basically one of them, just not trained in the same world.

    I have a better version of the Creed, one to remember proper use and responsibility:
    "I do not aim with my gun. The one who aims with his gun has forgotten the meaning of Courage.
    I aim with my eye.
    I do not shoot with my gun. The one who shoots with his gun has forgotten the meaning of Responsability.
    I shoot with my hand.
    I do not kill with my gun. The one who kills with his gun has forgotten the meaning of Justice.
    I kill with my heart.
    This is the Gunslinger Creed.
    May forever be it so."

    Somehow I mean they are very pretty guns but I imagine they're Airsoft or something similar that or 45 long colt is alot easier from a longer barrel
