That’s what I love about you, that you focus on beginners. Just keep being you! I see so many RUclipsrs change over the years. From being themselves to being more ridged. You always come across so genuine and it’s like listening to your friend chatting over a cuppa.
When pre treating colors, put a cup of vinegar in the wash. It sets the color. The companies used to put out color proof fabrics, no longer. This got left when so many fabrics came in from Asian companies.
I love that you spend the time to explain everything in detail. Also your sewing is beautiful, and I love the fabric choice. I look forward to more of these videos, I have been sewing for over 50 years and I love everything to do with sewing. ❤️
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for focusing on the beginners! Anita your videos are always inspiring, helpful, and detailed…..you left no stone unturned!🤩💯❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I love how you walk us through how you deal with all the inconsistencies that pop up while trying to make a garment. You make me feel like, "ok, I can do that. It may not be as hard as I thought." So thank you so much for this behind the scenes walk through. I absolutely love all the things you make. Your taste and style is impeccable and will never go out of style.
Yes, I like the idea of the behind-the-scenes and the sew-a-long video, because as a beginner, those step-by-step videos are priceless. I like the pattern reviews because often there might be errors in the patterns and it's best if a professional can catch those errors early on. That shirt fabric is beautiful!! Its the buttons that terrify me. And look at the direction of those buttonholes, oh Precious Lord, help me.
Awesome! Thank you so much for your feedback. The buttonholes become less intimidating once you start sewing them. Just practice on scrap fabric. That's the best way to get comfortable with making buttonholes. Practice a lot before you have to add them to a garment. 💕
You are a talented seamstress, but also a very gifted teacher! You are so clear and relatable. What a pleasure it is to watch you. You are thorough and easy to follow.
Hey Anita! SWEET INSPIRATIONS! I’m so glad you are BACK!!!! You are my inspiration to sewing! I have watched you for awhile & taught me a lot! Your make, is simply lovely!🥰
Love the outfit! You're such an inspiration. I've sewed all my life and have always felt a sense of lack when it came to fashion and looking wonderful. Back in the day: As a single mom I walked around in frumpy clothing as if I didn't know how to sew! And! Now! I still have the frumpy look because I've allowed my life to be interrupted with drama for others. But! God is using you to convict me of the unused gift He gave me at the tender age of 12. May you always be a blessing! Love you my dear sweet sister in Christ!
Oh my goodness! This really touched my heart. I totally understand what you're saying. I have been there more than once. I'm so glad God is reminding you of your gift. Let's get back to it sister. Get that machine out, have it serviced, and get to sewing. I'm really excited for you because I know the excitement you're about to experience. I love you too, my sister. 💕💕💕
Anita, that whole outfit is just fire! 🔥 I'm looking forward to making that blouse pattern over and over again. Something I learned: I bought the blouse pattern months ago. When I finally opened it to cut out the pieces I discovered they accidentally packed the pattern for the other size group. So I couldn't use it. And I couldn't find the receipt to try to exchange it. So tip: open the package in store and double check that the size is correct on the pieces. 😊
As a fellow sewist, I really enjoyed the attention to the preparation. When I think of my fails, it is because I failed to prepare. I really like your content. This video inspired me more than the other one. Thanks Anita!!
Oh my goodness! You've made a great point here. Preparation makes all the difference. I always prepare ahead of time and take my time during the entire project. I enjoy the process this way as opposed to the occasion here and there when I rush to get a garment sewn.
Same! I’m usually too lazy to prewash, and I have paid the price. It just isn’t a big deal, and is well worth the time. I’m so glad Anita shows this step!
😂🤣😂 You just made me laugh. I love it because I feel the same way sometimes when I'm watching people share what they've made. It's so much fun. Thank you so much. 💕
Gorgeous ensemble, Anita❤❤. The Vogue pants are my favorite and the fit is amazing. As for the bleeding, I find using Color Run Remover by Carbona removes the stains! Great advice for purchasing extra yardage. I always do because I’m greedy😂😂😂. Thanks for sharing another great video❤✂️😀🧵
Your sewing is impeccable... The style absolutely fits the fabric... Use of the delicate buttons... Perfect. I'm so amazed at the amount of dye extracted... And the bleed into the cream. If you had more areas than this what would have been your solution?
Thank you so much. If I had more bleeding, I would have tried a product that removes the dye that bleeds. Someone told me about it but I don't know the name of the product.
I love love love your videos and I’m learning so much. Thank you so much for helping us beginners especially with the sew along. This blouse and pant set is gorgeous I can’t wait to continue with the videos. God bless!
YES! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy the videos and are actually learning as I share. That's my heart's desire, is that new beginners can find inspiration and learn from what I share. I'm glad you're here.💕
Great video content as always. I enjoy your clear and precise instructions as a guide for my own sewing projects as well as completing your sew-a-longs. I am not a beginner at sewing but I believe that you can learn something new every day in the sewing world. I have the pants pattern and have made the pattern twice but will watch you sew along. Thanks again, Anita.
Anita, You did a FABULOUS job on this outfit. I love the pop collar. Thank you for inspiration I have vogue 8772 and will pull it out. You've given me some confidence to attempt view D. Thank you 😊
Thanks so much for that hint about the salt. I had the thought that maybe the fabric shouldn’t have been soaked and wondered if that was the cause of the dye bleeding. I have had care tags on a garment that said no soaking. I usually prewash but I’ve never soaked because I worried about the dye bleeding.

Thanks for this video Anita. Whenever I do this pre-soak almost 90% of the time the fabrics that have a bleed end up being useless after or they loose the vibrancy in their colour. I even tried adding salt or vinegar. I avoid a lot of the rich colour fabrics that are always so beautiful and tempting to buy because they tend to bleed. Oh no! My experience was good with the pre-soak method. Maybe it's the fabric quality? I'm not sure. The color is still vibrant and the fabric is in good shape. I've heard of the dye catcher sheets but I haven't tried them. Some people like them so maybe give that a try.
I try to make sure my gathering line in directly on the seam line. I use lots of pins and sew with the gathered side up. Then I sew really slow, watching to make sure I'm not getting puckers. Sometimes I have to lower the height of the sleeve cap to reduce the gathers.
Hi @AnitabyDesign! What if someone doesn't have a serger (or access)? How do they finish the edges? Also, are you pre-washing "all" of the fabric? or just the yardage that you needed for the pattern? Last question, what if we have fabric from a while back and don't have washing instructions (mainly cotton). How should we wash? 🙂 Thanks so much!
Great questions. 1. You can use your regular machine to insert a zigzag stitch across the cut edge if you don't have a serger. This also will prevent the raw edge from unraveling. 2. I usually prewash all the yardage when I bring it home. Nothing gets put away until it is pretreated. That way I don't have to guess which pieces are ready and which need pretreating. I could easily mark the pieces to help me distinguish, but I prefer to have my fabrics ready to go at all times. 3. You can follow care instructions from similar fabrics if you don't have the care instructions. I recommend pretreating a scrap piece if you have enough to cut away. If not, it's always safe to wash in cold water.
Large leg pants : the more large are the pants, the longer they have to be. I think that yours are too short. They almost have to touch the ground… almost.

Love the advice on how you pre treat your fabric. And buying extra fabric for just in case!
That is no outfit. It’s an ENSEMBLE! And lovely! The work you put into this project made for a flawless presentation! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I love the blue!! The outfit does look high end~ You could easily spend many, many $$$ in a boutique on something like this. Very inspiring :)
Your fabric / pattern matching decisions are excellent. This has been a challenge for me and I appreciate your expertise.
There’s nothing more elegant than linen trousers. I bet they feel wonderful with the lining. Ooh. You need some lovely red pumps. 😊
Ok… Whew!!! I thought we no longer would be getting the sew alongs. Well then, I love this new behind the scene series. Keep them coming.
Thank you!
You are so very welcome. I'm excited to bring more sew alongs. 🤗

A tip: instead of losing the dye like that, wash with plenty salt to "set" the dye 😊 thanks for another inspiring video!

@@AnitabyDesign Thanks, also what sewing machine would you recommend for a beginner?
Thanks!
Oh, thank you so much. I really appreciate that. 💕
Lovely outfit! Is the pant zipper in the back or the side? The pattern envelope says it has a side
zipper but the line drawings show a back zipper!
The zipper is in the back. I think it may have been an error on their part because the pattern and website both list a side zipper.
Fantastic outfit, suits u so much !

Do you or commenters have a recommendation on how to deal with these fabrics that bleed a lot?
Oh no! My experience was good with the pre-soak method. Maybe it's the fabric quality? I'm not sure. The color is still vibrant and the fabric is in good shape. I've heard of the dye catcher sheets but I haven't tried them. Some people like them so maybe give that a try.
Love your makes!! Have you ever used color catching fabric sheets?
No, I have never used them.
You made the vogue 8772 pattern for the blouse, I need to know how you made the pants. Thanks.
I shared all the information about the pants in the video too.
Does the lining keep the linen from wrinkling as much
I think the lining helps to lessen the wrinkling, but it also gives the pants more weight, which I love.
Hello Anita. Did you prepare the rounded hem in the same fashion as you prepared the hem for your shirt dress (McCalls 8030).
I used a 5/8” narrow hem on the shirt hem.
Hello Anita, I meant to say did you sew a gathering stitch along the hem first so that you did not have any puckers when turning up the hem
Why do you conserve the fabric by laying out the pieces closer? Still learning but that’s what I do. Looking for guidance.
That is definitely a good practice. Keep doing what you do. 💕
Do you have any advise on sewing in gathered sleeves? I have a hard time not getting puckers and just having the sleeve cap smooth.
@@AnitabyDesignI serge the edge of my fabric then wash it as soon as I come home. Always wash fabric, even wool and silk.
If you add the lining to the linen pants, will you recommend dry cleaning them?
You can definitely dry clean them, or wash in cold water.
Sorry why don’t you lay pattern closer?
Revelation 9:12-21
Large leg pants : the more large are the pants, the longer they have to be. I think that yours are too short. They almost have to touch the ground… almost.
I disagree. My pants are exactly the length I want them to be.
