@@ayronnreko2345 good to hear youre healing up okay. Take care man, i only have an acl tear along with some meniscus damage and still feel like shit. You got this.
I’m so glad I found this video. Recently tore my MCL and ACL and I’m having surgery on my ACL in about 2 weeks. It’s my first major surgery and the more information I know, the better I feel. So thank you 💕
Glad I watched this! Currently rehabbing MCL (sprained both LCL and MCL, with MCL taking the brunt, but ACL and PCL looked OK in the MRI) and this is the first I've heard about proprioception issues, which explains some of the issues that I'm having
So glad you mentioned the 'grades', as I have several medicalese terms, lol. Meniscus, ACL, MCL, and fractured tibia. 7 weeks out, swelling came down after 2, but if I can find out those 'grades' of my injuries, I will have a better idea of whether surgery is likely. I'm on a walker, just barely put weight on that leg. Cross fingers!☝️
Dang how! I was in a motorcycle wreck and tore my PCL ACL and fractured my tibia in 2 places (was sticking out of my leg) and my fibula (also was sticking out lol)
I have a full ACL year but wasn’t eligible for surgery. It’s causing me to separate from the Marine Corps, but I am now able to jog up to medium speeds, no restriction upper body lifting, and only mild restriction lower body lifting (no heavy dead’s or squats). I strengthen my legs daily with banded exercises and stretch and normal life is absolutely normal, like nothing ever happened. However, I will never play competitive sports or perform duties as a Marine, so luckily I planned to discharge anyway and start my business. What you intend to do in life determines whether the surgery is needed or not
I have a grade 3 ACL,MCL,PCL tear since 6 month and am back to 100%movement after 5 weeks of 5h daily rehab. Now weight bearing, hiking, running even sitting on my heels for 5 minutes without any pain - after research this seems like a miracle and doctors don't recommend surgery. Although I think I should have surgery due to my physical lifestyle and work (rope access/construction, snowboard etc) I have a surgery planned but might opt out of it - really not sure what the best way of action is for me.l but am worried that my knee will prematurely wear out due to my active lifestyle I want to keep.
I was injured in Iraq, doc over there said it was a sprained knee. After a month on crutches, went back to work as an infantryman. For about 7 months did my ruck marches, pt test, and job. Got back to the states, knee started locking. Check myself in, after mri, doc said I blown my acl and tore my meniscus.
@@zaincps3029 Got surgery while I was in. Got out of the military with just 10% disability for my knee. Took a long time, but after many VA claims, at 100%.
I tore my PCL in 1996 playing softball. I was covering home/blocking home (natural catcher reaction), and the girl never slid, she just ran into my leg, hit me right below the kneecap and I just dropped. It felt like my knee was falling out of my leg through the back. Went to 2 different doctors who both told me I had a bad bruise. :( No MRI, just xrays to make sure there was no break. I couldn't walk without my leg giving out forward with each step. I rested with a knee immobilizer for 5 weeks and then just a knee brace, gradually exercising my quads and hamstrings. Fast forward 6 years, playing ice hockey, I went knee on knee with a girl and immediately felt like my knee was on fire. Felt like everything under my kneecap was just swelling up. Went to a new doctor, one who worked for local pro sports teams, and he said, yeah the PCL is completely torn (MRI confirmed it) but there's nothing we can really do because the surgery for this has only 50/50 odds of better recovery than when you went in. ACL was stretched but fine. I am double my age now from when my injury occurred, and moved to a warmer climate....less problems with the knee now so I think it healed on its own. Occasionally, when I'm playing softball it will jerk forward moreso than it should and hurt a bit, but nothing major. I did actually fracture my ankle (talus) on the same leg 8 years ago playing softball, stepped in a sprinkler hole running for a fly ball, and tore my anterior talofibular ligament. Not sure if the history of knee issues had anything to do with it causing that amount of damage, but it has taken literally 2.5 years to recover and not have pain. I've had to learn how to walk properly again because I've been compensating for my knee and ankle for so many years. I have a really high tolerance for pain so even when these injuries occur, it takes years for me to actually realize it. The ankle, took 7 years to realize something was not right because it started healing so quickly after the injury despite being swollen. I've learned unfortunately how to live and play in pain.
My problem is after bike accedent are - minimal knee joint fluid, minimal altered signals along the ACL partial injury , grade 2 tear of horn of medical meniscus, radial tear
years ago I actually injured both my ACL and LCL. playing floor hockey. I was hit with a 2-hand slash across the front of me left knee from the right side.
@@ritikarajput3727 I did get surgery, but several years later. For the most part I was able to function normally with physiotherapy and keeping the muscles strong. It wasn't until many years later that I decided to have the surgery. The surgery is a slow recovery. There are typically at least 3 things you need to be aware of. First, the ligament repair will typically feel good within weeks of the surgery. For me I was able to walk without pain and with full mobility within 3 weeks. However, they typically harvest part of your hamstring tendon to replace the ligament. This takes roughly 3-4 months to fully transform from tendon to ligament. And while you might feel good and strong, your new ligament is not and can very easily be torn. Follow the advice of your physiotherapist. Second, they take part of you hamstring tendon and Thant makes your hamstring very weak. For normal people this can take 9-12 months to feel better. Third, there is always an increase risk of arthritis after the surgery.
Severed my PCL and ACL in a motorcycle wreck. Sucks. No stability. Also broke my leg in 3 places with 2 bones sticking out. Abs my arm.. fingers hand… torn tendons too.. sucks lol
My acl tore completely. First injury mosh pit 16 years ago. "Trick knee" fell down the snowy stairs last winter and lost all stability after that. I think thats went from a tear to a floating freely acl lol... Week 5 post surgery this is a process whew!
My friend has his lcl ligament (outside of his knee joint) that's sore after a wide leg stretch for karate training. Can you please post a video for that please
Love you guys!! I learn something EVERYTIME I watch and I come to your site often for personal help and also to help my personal training clients returning to functional fitness after completing PT. Keep posting! :))
went to see the doctor, I was asking if I had patellar tendonitis, or Osgood slatter. He explained to me that it could be my ACL. He did an exercise on me, where he grabbed my left calf with his hand and his other hand on the knee. Then he pulled against him. The left was coming out way more than the right was, which is a sign that the ACL isn't doing its job because it's the ACL's responsibility that your leg and the little dot slightly below your knee (under the fleshy part) doesn't go out of its place (forward) and it did on my left but not on the right. I'm an athlete who normally plays football(soccer) every day. basketball here and there. however, when I tape the fleshy part of the knee it does hurt when I run or play basketball or football. It reduces the pain levels very much when I tape it when I'm doing everything related to football. I can squat on 1 leg usually with the other leg stretched out completely forward and squat, but now the left leg when I squat hurts when I go down to a certain point, but not on the right. Right now I'm waiting for my appointment for MRI where I take pictures of the ligament and stuff, this is maybe taking 2 weeks - 1 month, I'm training push-ups currently but don't know how to train the ACL, or don't become weak when I come back after resting much, he said rest while we wait for your appointment when we will see what we will do. Do these kinds of pains go away? does it heal over time? he didn't suspect that I had torn the ACL, but didn't mention anything about levels 1, 2, or 3. but 100% I'm on 1, or 2.
Long Question: I know this is an old video, but would like your opinion on my injury. Several years ago, I had an acute injury to my knee. I was flying down basement steps with hands full not holding onto the rail. At the bottom I turned to go left, but my toe caught on something left in the floor. In an instant I knew I was going down hard on concrete, so I stiffened my right leg to prevent my knee from hitting concrete. Surprisingly to me my foot was firmly planted on the floor and didn’t budge either. I went down fast and hard and my knee bent BACKWARD and I experienced a very loud and painful snap in the back of my right knee. I couldn’t get up and my son ran to the basement and basically carried me up the steps. The injury swelled and I stayed on the sofa for over a week, gradually the pain subsided. My family begged me to go to the hospital, but I have had bad experiences with doctors and don’t trust them. I recovered some and used a crutch, then cain to get around. After 5 months and hitting a recovery plateau, I went to an orthopedic doctor. I wrote all this down and sent to him before the appointment. His very young assistant (his son?) read thru my note, but skipped over the pop and hurting in back of my knee. He didn’t do any of these procedures to check the ligaments, but pulled on my leg some. I told him that when I sleep on my back it feels like the knee is bending backward, so I have to bend my injured leg to the right to sleep. Then the ortho took an X-ray and told me that I had arthritis and had had it for years and needed a knee replacement. He also refused to discuss how I go the injury and the loud and painful snap. They wouldn’t even look at the red spot still behind my right knee that shows where it snapped and where I still get some swelling and pain. I told him I was not doing a knee replacement, after which he had a temper tantrum and started throwing stuff around. I did a couple sessions of PT, but never back to him. I know this is ligament damage and I’m functional, but standing or walking too long will give me swelling, pain behind the knee and often shin splints on the right lower leg as I use muscles to keep my leg aligned. I also have problems with my knee going out of joint if I walk too fast and sling my lower leg out too far. I am convinced that this is ligament damage and not cartilage. I don not have bone on bone pain. What do you think and how do you pick a competent doctor who will listen to a woman over 50???
I got surgery last year, in April, due to a workrelated injury where i slipped and fell backwards and my knee got twisted as i fell because my foot was stuck in a pallet. I tore my ACL and medial meniscus and had a pretty bad inflammation and bleeding in both the ACL, the meniscus and the kneejoint. I was at home and on sick leave for 8 months, and my knee is still very unstable and hurts alot, even more than before i had the surgery done.
what type of damage can occur if surgery is recommended but it doesn't happen. I had a torn pcl and mcl. I am mobile and it feels okay but twinges on occasion.
Had an injury 11 years ago never went to a doctor, it took me almost a year to walk with out a decent. And it has never felt strong it pops out of place it feels and gives out, if I step with weight not under me it gives out.
My dudes, I had a Grade 3 PCL tear, and a grade 2 MCL tear in November playing rugby. My doc said to avoid surgery, but I'm 5 months out of the injury and nearly 3 months into weekly PT, and I'm still unable to run. WHAT DO? I don't want to go back to playing rugby, but I do want to go back to competitive distance sports.
What is if I partially torn my PCL and LCL? Plus damaged cartilage and Baker's cyst. 6 weeks on and still struggle walking and not able to swim. No physio, no rehab, no surgery. Should I look for second opinion?
@Im here because im bored Fell on my twisted knee with full body weight. Cartilage might had been damaged before the accident. I still can't walk without crutches.
@Im here because im bored waiting for a second MRI and see what can be done. The first dr said I just had 'arthritis' the second said I needed a surgery. Doctors are weird.
I tore my ACL about 15 years ago and have had 3 surgeries. My knee has never been the same. What are the best exercises to do? I used to run and play net ball, both I can't do anymore, nor can I do exercises like squats without being in pain. Such an annoying and frustrating injury. I would rather have broken a leg and an arm :(
I had a CT scan back in 2020 of my right knee after numerous times of my appointments getting canceled because of covid here. I have arthritis in my knee which I'm not surprised caused by the injury. The surgeon advised not to have key hole surgery again because it won't work, so yeah.... great eh :( I should be grateful I can still walk, it's just something I have to live with, others have it way worse than me. So I'm grateful for that.
I'm a professional driver, and I continually push the clutch pedal all day. The inside of my knee is killin me. Limited movement, lying down is a no-no! I ran yesterday and I'm paying for it.
With a grade 1 sprain mcl, should I continue exercise? It hurts and is uncomfortable but is not excruciating. However, I’ve learned to listen to my body when it hurts to prevent further damage and have been steering away from sports and exercise, but I miss it! What should I do?
Thanks for the video, I’ve recently subscribed- from Australia 👍 you’re both very well educated, I’m going through some knee problems and I’m learning a lot from your videos! Thank you 🙏🏻
After all 3 ligament tear ... Wherein surgery is not needed and when you start physotherapy after so is it normal to have a knee pain after exercise ??? . And after a stretch of good one week exercise if there is a gap of 2/3 days in physo exercise and there is a pain in the knee during tat gap is it normal...???
I tore my LCL, MCL and ruptured my ACL along with subchonderal fractures to my Tibia and Femur 4 weeks ago. Fair to say doctors don't care, was told to 'go home and see how you go' and 'maybe you just hurt some soft tissue'. I only know the exact injuries due to booking and paying for my own MRI, still not seen a knee specialist yet...due to see one tomorrow....was told waiting time for ACL reconstruction is a minimum of one year wait here in the UK too.... I'm not a happy man currently..
Hello sir ! What shall I do to my injury? I was injured for 5 mons. Then I still feel the deep pain of my knee I cannot even take a complete jump As I could before. And my first MRI state that just a sprain but i still feel the pain of my knee.

I had the get that redone in a third surgery about 6 weeks after the initial surgeries. I am still recovering. I have flexion to about 90° and extension to 0°, but still not walking or putting much more pressure that a toe tap on that leg. I fear to much pressure will make it fail again. I go to see the physician in about 2 weeks to see if I can progess to putting more pressure on that leg.
@@rchot84 I've a torn ACL and grade 2 tear posterior horn meniscus of my left knee. One orthopaedic surgeon tells me it will heal with extensive excercise and physiotherapy. I consulted couple more doctors who told me surgery is mandatory. My fear is if I don't get surgery done, as my meniscus is torn, it may affect on the long run which may lead to osteoarthritis. I'm really confused
I have a complete ACL tear. I twisted whilst playing squash. I do not want to go for surgery. It's a personal choice and I believe that with my PT and black seed oil I will heal naturally. I believe most doctors are commercial and all the videos on RUclips also hear towards Surgery.
Had a completely torn PCL while playing football. Was able to play again about 5-6 wks later with no surgery and lots of rehab. It never felt fully recovered until about a year later. Now almost 20 yrs later, i need to keep my quadriceps/hamstrings strong for extra stability. If not, my knee will hyper extend slightly every now and then but nothing serious or painful.
Very informative video. my husband has a near complete tear of acl. he was playing volleyball. he is a corporate professional who lives to jog. We really want to avoid surgery. do u have any views?

Hi, The current climate on COVID-19 has meant my ACL and Meniscus tear rehab have both been delayed/postponed or as it seems completely forgotten about by the NHS, which is understandable due to the pandemic. However my Surgeon/physician told me (when i FIRST had my MRI to confirm the tears), that i may be able to return to playing football without surgery due to having strong surrounding muscles and many other soccer/football players have done so (i thought he was just telling me this so that i stayed positive but the pain i felt at the time was telling me different and in no way did i think i would be able to do the things i am doing now without surgery). As I have no physio or anyone helping me due to social distancing etc, i have kind of taken it upon my self to see what my knee is capable of... now almost 4 months post tear with no physio or any external rehab, I am able to barbell squat 120kg+KG for reps (was squatting 180KG prior) and run in a straight line without pain or sometimes both exercises cause maybe a 2/10 pain (sometimes) (i have been running 5 KM in around 22-23 minutes - so a decent pace). When i speak to others that have had the injury or at the same point in there recovery (4 months post trauma), they are unable to believe how much i can do with no physio/surgery/rehab. which is really leaving me in the dark as i just want to play football again... but also i dont want to cause anymore stress to the knee. I would'nt say my knee feels normal at all, but pain is low and stability is nowhere near perfect but its ok. Now because I have no physio due to the current situation in the UK, I have no support or help as to what i should be doing next or what i should actually be doing... Being a student i also don't have the funds to pay extortionate amounts of money to go private. I am also worried that if i tell them this info they will tell me i don't need certain surgeries etc to save money and because i have told them i am ok and i am back running. but in order to play football at the level or intensity as i did i want to do whats best for my knee. I am worried to try any multi directional work or even kick a ball. Is anyone on here able to advise or help me what i should do next? As if i can go back to playing football without having ACL reconstruction it would be a dream. If this is not the place could anyone point me in the right direction? Just to confirm I have had an MRI scan to confirm both a tear in my ACL and medial meniscus. just to note, I am a 20 year old male. I hope everyones recovery is going well and thanks for taking the time to read!
10:00 Aha! Jumped over a fence, lower on landing side, and I came down just the way you showed because I misjudged it, and also turning slightly LEFT as i came down. It was like my left leg snapped twice sideways. Ambulance came, I couldnt move. Anyway, great demonstration of landing from a jump, guys! ( although I dont think I could have done better,-- except, of course, dont jump over fences for short cuts!)☝️😇
Any suggestions for long distance riders (equestrians) with knee issues? We stand or post for sometimes hours, knees bent, of course, but that's a beating on young knees, as we get older, and often more injured, ouch.
i have a high grade pcl partial tear and its been 3 months. its been getting better but man I think i might need surgery it still hurts and feels unstable
My son in an accident at work ( he does live action shows in amusement parks) tore his ACL, MCL, PCL, Posterior Lateral Corner, popliteal artery, poroneal nerve. This happened June 11th, He has had a few surgeries but still no repair of the ACL, PCL, The meniscus was flipped back over. He has a orthotic for his foot drop. My question is can he start weight bearing without the surgery. We are hoping it happens in the next few weeks but he feels like he can put the foot down. But your video seems to say maybe the fluid inside may not want pressure until the surgery is done. We have a good orthopedic surgeon Dr Michael Shepard in Orange Ca., but he is waiting on vascular to give him permission to operate. Can he use pressure?
I fell today snowboarding. I heard a pop on the inside of my knee and have pain. I have stability in my knee. I’m scheduling an ortho appointment. I think that it’s a grade2 tear of my mcl. We’ll see?
Hi fell in June 21,2017 and hit my right knee on cement tile floor and it was fine till the winter come and when I walk now it's very painful and my right knee turns towards the inside of my leg and I start hopping around from pain and locked right knee.
I was walking daily for 15 kms and everything was fine until I saw some videos motivating to run to strengthen my feet and after 1 week of running I got MCL tear and now I feel so stressed out of normal routine not able to stand for long . Can't walk even at home more than few minutes. I m not visiting doctor as I m not used to it cause always they told me big interventions which I never followed. I don't like take any meds at all. Hope I can self heal I had no twist or accident it was very gradually increasing after running. Even after strain I walked for next 2 days after I felt it's time to rest for few weeks.
Hi guys. Have sustained an MCL strain. Due to our current world covid situation I have played no sports and rested for over 12 weeks, however still have pain on the inside of knee (where mcl is) when walking let alone running. Your thoughts would be welcome. Many thanks, Alec London
I'm going through the same injury right now. Since you posted your comment 3 years ago I see, I'm curious to hear how you are now and how long the recovery eventually took. Thanks!
Hi Bob n Brad! I have valgus deformity, ,(knock knees), my patella are dislocated, and a Collagen Deficiency Disorder, called Ehlers-Danlos Hypermobe. For 15 years I tried to figure out what my trash can full of symptoms . My first diagnosis was Fibromyalgia. But I didn't stop there, because it's too vague. Anyhow, as time goes on I keep having more symptoms! I found out my patella were displaced about age 45; I could no longer squat and stand. In 2016, age 57, my right knee had a very painful MCL tear. Advice was to brace it and let it mend. Because of EDS it didn't take weeks, it took months,! I had to do stairs several times a day, that became my PT. It never really healed, and my DO recommended s Fulkerson Osteotomy in 2017-18. I went to rehab direct from the operation. It was painful. But I got walking and went home. From there on, I would have sharp pain about every 6 weeks. It took about 4 weeks to heal, and might have 2 weeks of activity, then the pain. I started diagramming the areas, and when I looked up knee anatomy, I realized I had been tearing every ligament near my knee! I also still have cartilege under my kneecaps, that started about 15 years ago. It was supposed to get "cleaned out" during that surgery. I don't think so! So, last summer, 2019, I sprained it again. Then it was a regular thing. A few days ago, I had another problem. My Fibula actually popped out of place! I am trying to figure out what exactly in need to do to pop it back in. I need to not sit Indian-style evermore!! I'm wondering these things: 1. Should I have surgery to replace the tendon? 2. Should I just get a knee replacement? 3. Would cadaver parts be better, or how would I know donated ligament would match my blood type, and would that part get the EDS from me? Sorry this is so long! Not sure how to find a reply! Thank you very much!! Diana Crockett

Can these tears be graded on a regular x-ray? I fell on my knees 3times this past year and now after having to care for my husband (total quad tear) and doing the stairs too often, I have a sharp pain and instability when I straighten my leg. I am hobbling around with my knee in a bent position. The Dr I went to thinks I have arthritis. I am scheduled for phys therapy. Thanks!!
Do i need complete knee replacement? Can cyst be removed? MRI report says Lf knee pain. Truncated appearance of the anterior and posterior horns as well as the body of the medial meniscus. Consistent with diffuse free edge tearing in absence of any known meniscectomy. There is bandlike low signal intensity soft tissue structure in the posterior medial aspect of the intercondylar notch. This contacts the posterolateral aspect of the medial femoral condyle. Inferiorly this appears contiguous with the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus. This is most suggestive of displaced meniscal fragment likely arising from the posterior horn. Measure 1.5x0.8cm. There is complex degenerative tear of the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus. The remainder of the lateral meniscus is unremarkable. There is no evidence of posterolateral corner or capsular injury. have free edge tearing of the entire medial meniscus. Displaced meniscal tear involving posterior horn of the medial meniscus. Displaced meniscal fragment extends superiorly & laterally into the intercondylar notch. No ligament tear. Large Bakers cyst. Small joint effusion.

I have a surgery planned but might opt out of it - really not sure what the best way of action is for me.l but am worried that my knee will prematurely wear out due to my active lifestyle I want to keep.
Then what did you do?

Thanka. Just found out I messed up my mcl and gotta rehab it

I wish I had known this in 1990 when I did my MCL (partial tear)...these guys are brilliant, love their chemistry too!
Thanks for this! I had exactly the same injury
i’m in so much pain but that intro made me feel better

Actually I also got injured while playing basketball but I don't want to operate my knee
Can you suggest What kind of doctor do I go to for eval? MRI OR JUST XRAYS?
All my med want to treat is arthritus.

@bob and brad please

You didn't answer the question stated in the title - what about level 1 and 2 tears? Do they heal?
for MCL yes for ACL...it can be but it can not also
I tore my ACL about 15 years ago and have had 3 surgeries. My knee has never been the same. What are the best exercises to do? I used to run and play net ball, both I can't do anymore, nor can I do exercises like squats without being in pain. Such an annoying and frustrating injury. I would rather have broken a leg and an arm :(
My ACL is third grade and I'm avoiding surgery just by doing some exercises suggested by physiotherapist.

If we have a just strain in acl and not tear, so can it heal on it's own ? And how much time it will take to heal? ( "Just Strain " )
I most likely have a grade 1 acl injury. How long does that take to heal ? And what exercises and or treatments can I do to speed up the process ?

Hi,
The current climate on COVID-19 has meant my ACL and Meniscus tear rehab have both been delayed/postponed or as it seems completely forgotten about by the NHS, which is understandable due to the pandemic.

I'm wondering these things:

Torn my ACL MCL both .. and between my rehab process i've reached to a stage where i cant bend after 90 .. so the doctor said its a case of Arthrofibrosis .. and for that i need another Arthrofibrosis Manipulation Surgery .. right after the surgery i can bend more than 120 degree .. still i have some percentage left to get the full range of motion .. hope its not serious and i will get back to my sports ☺
