1.8 years ago started with Lyft $32 hr, two months ago $20 hr, latest is around $16, no more Lyfting , however at a beach town where I reside there is a summer surcharge on Ubee till Sept 16th , it has been great !!! Keeping head above water. Upfront pricing = Upfront SLICING
Same here. I was making between 2500 to 3200 dollars over 70 hours a week before the upfront fees here in Las Vegas. Now, if you're lucky. I'm making 1900 to 2200 a week for the same hours, and I noticed that Uber is taking in 50 to 70 percent per trip. It's totally ridiculous and greedy.
There’s a way to take screenshots without using two hands. On an iPhone: Toggle on Assistive Touch Add “Screenshot” if it doesn’t default OR Assign “Screenshot” to the double tap section for the Assistive Touch function. This will place a disc on your phone. The opacity can be adjusted. The location of the disc can be moved to a less obtrusive location. I hope this helps!
Hey Sergio what about, being able to set minimums in the app? I don't take rides less than $10.00. If drivers just stopped accepting $3 rides we wouldn't get them anymore.
@@itguru3654 that's right now everyone who drives for Uber just needs to start turning down the low fares. It has to be an all-or-nothing kind of deal though unfortunately. And this is how we get change.

Thank you Larry and Sergio! Great interview and information. I'm new to Uber in the Miami metro... like you Larry, I was an IT exec/consultant before retiring earlier this year. The extra money is great of course, but I need to get out and be with people... going to try this for a while.
Hey Steven. Larry here. All the best to you. It took a lot of courage to breakout of a salaried position but here I am 2 years later and am glad I did it. It has been very beneficial to my health and well-being.
People need to have ”feet on the curb”. How do they not know that? When they hold you up by five minutes, not only are these the people that do not tip but they’re also keeping you from making money by sitting there not making any money while you’re up and awake to be out there… It’s not just not giving you a tip. It’s taking money away from you. How do these people not know that??? There are truly some people that think that because there is a waiting fee, it means you are being paid to wait and so they don’t think anything of it but obviously the wait time pay is nothing…
seriously, it's not rocket science. keep your car clean. ask them how their day was. the horror stories i hear about other driver's cars amazes how it's not common sense to do the minimum needed. take pride in your ride...
Totally agree with you GeeWee. When a rider gets in my car and says it looks really clean and smells good I could do that trip without saying another word to them and still get 5 stars. All because the car is clean, smells good and I'm a reasonably safe driver. Also riders like it when you use your turn signals for every turn or lane change as it gives them a heads up on if you are going the right way to their destination.
Uber and Lyft need up the pay or put an end to this 5-minute wait because these people take the whole 5 minutes before they come out if you do 12 jobs a day that's over a hour that you lose what you do not get paid
Here in Indy it is always the pot smokers who take the total 7 minutes. I quit waiting. Once the the clock hits the two minute and hits charging I am off. Not only does it cost me money to wait. I loose on tips because my car stinks of pot when those asses get in. Can’t get rid of the smell.
That's never been a surprise, actually that's old news. Every time a market that switches from the regular model to upfront fares the driver loses money its been tested and proved so in my personal case in my New Jersey we are with the old model and we prefer to keep it that way
I make over 100k per year. I only drive Uber for the mileage claim. I make about 2k annually and deduct 40k in mileage and only pay 1% in taxes. I also track all mileage. I use Uber only to pay less in taxes... Be smart use it to pay less in taxes only

I bet if you accept every ride that comes in you’ll make over $2000. If I’m online I’m accepting every ride unless it’s in the hood or the person has a terrible rating. Which is maybe 2-5 rides a day at most
What rating do you consider terrible? Due to being a. Female I set my minimum rating I accept to 4.8… and at night.. 4.9..do people with 4.7… and below tip? Are they decent people? Genuinely asking..

Upfront pricing is a lot lower than if you get minutes and miles. With a minute and miles we can see how much wait time and per mile. But up front pricing, we don’t see any of that so we are getting robbed
Was that 40,000 miles in a year? That's nothing. Doing UberX almost exclusively (a couple other gig apps a few times) I have put 70,000+ miles on my car since I got her in July of last year.
I don't get tips since I reached diamond I provide a five-star service if there's anything I can do for you while you're on your ride to make you more comfortable feel free to let me know if it's changed on the radio or rolling out the windows to fill the AC
Something is not making sense here! This guy goes from a profession requiring skill and a college education that can pay in the 80k to 100k per year range. To earn a living doing an UNSKILLED job that doesn't even require a high school education to do it, at a fraction of his prior salary! It dont add up!
Some things are more important than money. Plus it does take skill, talent and a disciplined work ethic to do this job properly and to run the business behind it and make it profitable.
If you're trying to make money by driving Uber, it's only a matter of time until you find out what everyone else knows. You do not even make minimum wage. You're on the hook for the car, fuel, insurance, repairs, depreciation, and god forbid you get sued and then lose your home. It would be more profitable to work at a restaurant. Sad but true.

1:17 - 1:28 : I've been using 11+ year old cars with 120k plus miles, except for the car that I already owned when I first got into rideshare (9 years old). This is, quite literally, the only way that I haven't yet lost my shirt in this business.
I started with a car I owned for 9 years that already had 80k miles on it. If not for a drunk driver totaling it last year I would probably still be driving it today.
Uber and lyft isnt the problem. Its the drivers. Everytime you decline a ride the ride is sent to another deiver at a higher pay out. In other words if your not getting what you want for that ride its cause you excepted the ride to early. The total amount lyft and uber are charging the pax is around $2.°° per mile.
Glad I’m retired now all rideshare companies screw the contractors and passengers maybe when Trump is elected they will put the CEOs in prison where they belong
Yep me too. That's why I got a hybrid car. If they are going to reduce fares than I look at my business and see if there are ways to reduce my costs on other things to help offset the reduction.

That's a good thought but the Octopus tablet knows when you are on a trip for Uber/Lyft so it will only give you points if it is used in the context of an Uber or Lyft trip.

Tips thru the app will replace money you already earn. I'm in a earning leach, it's doesn't matter how many Tips I get they will turn it to base hourly wages. The only way you will actually see the increase from a tip is to get the rider to tip you outside the app. Then they have to give you more of the actually fares to give you your hourly wages leach.
@@Wiserchoices-n4l There lies the tragedy of driving Uber. That’s how Uber is stealing from drivers. They literally steal ALL the tips. Uber wants you to be on their time and a slave to their algorithm. Confiscating your tips is how they keep you on the hamster wheel to achieve that goal.
Uber has never confiscated my tips or reduced a fare after the fact because a rider tipped me. That's not to say it doesn't happen because Sergio has presented cases where that has happened but it's not a common occurrence.
I have over 30,000 rides and over 6500 deliveries. Rideshare guy. If you can give me an email I want to send you some rides that were offered to me in New Jersey that would make you freaking sick Charlie in New Jersey.
It's all completely ridiculous. I don't even know how people in places like California or why you guys even drive. $5 gallon gas and they're going to pay you $3.12 on a trip? All of it is b*******. I don't even know why people do it anymore. It's much more profitable to park your car and go work at Chick-fil-A or in and out
Upfront fares cut my airport rides by 25% to 40%. That was the last straw. I made biz cards and took UBER reservations every morning to LAX 60 mile ride for me and would try to flip em private for the return trip with great success. Or I would sit on my couch and set a DF filter to LAX and wait for that 1 ride from my neighborhood to LAX and flip em. I went from $25 an hr on UBER to $50 to $100 an hr now private. I hit $400 a day at least 3 days a week now. I charge $3 a mile. So no matter what I make $1.50 a mile if I don't get any return trips on UBER. 1k miles= minimum $1.5k.
I drive a 10 yr old 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid and a 2015 Toyota Sienna Limited with pristine interiors and exteriors and ALL of my private clients compliment me on how nice my car is. I average $125 per ride with these cars. I wear shorts, collared polo shirt and flip flops. lol and yes almost everyone rebooks with me again. lol Why do you need to wear a suite to drive some asshole billionaire around. I sure don't. That is the beauty of doing this for yourself. Imagine being able to wear flip flops and shorts amd make $200 in an hr!?
I flip at least 70% of my rides I can easily pull up and look at them and see if they're a possibility if there's some crazy foreign looking person I keep it moving because more than likely I'm not going to be able to flip the ride because you're not going to be able to speak the language good enough how many college area younger people are more likely to do it also people that are like picking up trucks and buses and things that they built around here always looking for a deal people from up North New York New Jersey they can respect the hustle for sure have no problem with it
Does anyone know why sunday in NYC had such high demand? My friend made over $700 with Uber this past sundsy, and he was allowed to work over 11 hours of passenger time. He did 27 trips in total.
Sunday has always been a good day to drive. Relatively less traffic and a lot of people travel long distance for family visits, events, etc…also a lot of drivers rest on Sunday.
Use the apps to get customers then ones you get there asking if they willing to pay cash or through cash app, zelle or any other app to do the money transaction or else they'll have to wait on another driver to come and pick them up. Uber is not playing fair so why should we.
Uber is terrible company they Charge the customer lots of money for instance Uber electric for $45 and Uber giving you $15 dollars that's bad and FUCKING terrible.

OR
Assign “Screenshot” to the double tap section for the Assistive Touch function.
This will place a disc on your phone. The opacity can be adjusted. The location of the disc can be moved to a less obtrusive location.

Excellent interview Larry and Sergio!! This was really helpful!
Allie thanks for watching and for the feedback. I'm glad to hear you found this helpful. All the best to you in your rideshare business.
Hey Sergio what about, being able to set minimums in the app?
I don't take rides less than $10.00. If drivers just stopped accepting $3 rides we wouldn't get them anymore.
This is true. I have been consistently declining rides under $5 and my average trip fare is now $9 to $13 per trip on any given day.
@@itguru3654 that's right now everyone who drives for Uber just needs to start turning down the low fares.
It has to be an all-or-nothing kind of deal though unfortunately.
And this is how we get change.
My small $5 trips give me the biggest tips and I don’t mind a shorter beach ride from time to time. I received a $100 tip on a $5 ride once! 😊
Thanks for info I did 25799 rides just making living 4.98 rate working at night time I believe driver for long time we deserve more hope things get better for the professional drivers

Thank you Larry and Sergio! Great interview and information. I'm new to Uber in the Miami metro... like you Larry, I was an IT exec/consultant before retiring earlier this year. The extra money is great of course, but I need to get out and be with people... going to try this for a while.
Thanks
Hey Steven.
Be smart use it to pay less in taxes only
Do you want to do an interview? sergio@therideshareguy.com
That's a good move. I do the same with my full time rideshare business and my tax liability is greatly reduced.
Sounds to me like the IRS will eventually audit you. 40,000 miles a year only making 2K doing rideshare? Is that 2K per month?

Their needs to be a protest from all the drivers across the nation. It's looking like a scheme now
Perfect car is sienna hybrid or camry hybrid. Corrola is too small and does not qualify for comfort. But also, more comfortabl and roomy cars will get more tips.
Ricky good point. In fact I'm thinking my next car will be a Sienna or Camry hybrid but I'm currently doing pretty well with the Corolla hybrid.
Facts I don’t know why everyone complaining like find what doing good for you when not come with another strategy.
Now I'm making half of what I used to make. Uber has cut the rate so much that it's like 5 an hours now
Spot On !! Big Pay Cut
Thanks for the interview Larry is professional i will ask everyone to ask customers what they laid
Thanks
Thanks. I'm glad you found it informative.
Lyft in Oklahoma doesn't hsve enough volume or consistency as Uber. Figured Lyft would be popular since Denzel Washington in Punisher
Sometimes Lyft is more popular in my area but depends on the time of day.
When you're driving private clients, there is zero chance you'll ever have to waste several hours with uber/lyft chatbot support trying to chase down the $2 or $3 uber/lyft owes you for something. If you drive fulltime, getting your private driver credentials is worth it.
I went from around $2000 to anywhere from $800 to $1100. I worked 5 days and now most weeks I work 7 days now

No longer worth driving with the overhead at all.

You're welcome. Yes I'm now looking into the best way to take screenshots. Thanks for those suggestions.
I cant even express how disappointed I am with uber. I've gone from 1500 a week to work longer hours just to make 500 a week. It seems that approximately 90% of my rides no longer give tips or uber is keeping the tips. Not to mention they expect you to drive 30 miles for $5 delivery fees. I'm wondering when driver are going to have had enough and revolt.
300 mile every day let say every month 8000 miles how did you put 40000 miles in your car. Ok every day 300 miles for 1 year is 96000 miles every years. What you talking about
I don't work everyday plus I take about a month or so off every year for vacation.
Drive safe, Larry!!

Sergio, what hours do you drive on the weekdays? What about weekends?
Early mornings during the week, all hours on the weekends
$1500 A week, which now is 100 hours of working time when you will drop Uber will send you a penny...
You think upfront fares were bad wait for advantage mode I'm in week 2 it's horrible earnings went down 50% working longer more miles less pay. I couldn't only imagine standard mode 😢
What's advantage mode?
Of course the are paying less. When you know your market. You see it in every ride
Yes Jurry that is key to any business. To know your market. Great point!
I went from 2200/wk and now I barely break $1000/wk. I’m at 4.99 rating with 15k trips. Explain that to me please?
The explanation is you drivers ignorantly thinking inflation would affect everyone else besides you.
I am having trouble making over 1,000.00 we need to go on strike like mass is getting 32.50 an hour and I don't get the money for the medical stripe because of my insurance
I bet if you accept every ride that comes in you’ll make over $2000. If I’m online I’m accepting every ride unless it’s in the hood or the person has a terrible rating. Which is maybe 2-5 rides a day at most
Let's do an interview, email me sergio@therideshareguy.com
What rating do you consider terrible? Due to being a. Female I set my minimum rating I accept to 4.8… and at night.. 4.9..do people with 4.7… and below tip? Are they decent people? Genuinely asking..
Instead of asking tell me what you like and dislike, the question should be tell me what you dislike, and tell me what you hate!!!
$1,500 x 52 weeks. $78k. Not too bad before taxes & expenses.
And if you keep track of the mileage or use the car exclusively for the business you can write off all the miles you drove at 65 cents a mile.

Serge is funny: he always gives reasons NOT to drive for Uber...
To each their own
Upfront pricing is a lot lower than if you get minutes and miles. With a minute and miles we can see how much wait time and per mile. But up front pricing, we don’t see any of that so we are getting robbed
With upfront pricing I add up the distance to pickup and to destination. If it's less than $1.00 per mile I will decline the trip.
Was that 40,000 miles in a year? That's nothing. Doing UberX almost exclusively (a couple other gig apps a few times) I have put 70,000+ miles on my car since I got her in July of last year.
Working full time I put 7,000 to 9,000 miles a month on my car
When will be your interview with criminal Dara?
He won't come in
How much does he factor in for vehicle depreciation per mile? If financed how much has he had to pay for interest?
Thanks
Depends on the car you're driving, the older the car the less depreciation
Using both app uber and lyf
I don't get tips since I reached diamond I provide a five-star service if there's anything I can do for you while you're on your ride to make you more comfortable feel free to let me know if it's changed on the radio or rolling out the windows to fill the AC
Why become diamond

You guys have finally figured out that they've been shaving our money and making us do more work for free over the last five years. 😂😂😂
If you treat it like a business and operate under an LLC you can do well.

Just as we were talking about in the video the county where I live doesn't have UFFs but the counties to the west and east of me do. I'm sure it's because Uber believes it would not be to their advantage to have UFFs in my area.

1:17 - 1:28 : I've been using 11+ year old cars with 120k plus miles, except for the car that I already owned when I first got into rideshare (9 years old).
This is, quite literally, the only way that I haven't yet lost my shirt in this business.
Good comment
I started with a car I owned for 9 years that already had 80k miles on it. If not for a drunk driver totaling it last year I would probably still be driving it today.
Uber and lyft isnt the problem. Its the drivers. Everytime you decline a ride the ride is sent to another deiver at a higher pay out. In other words if your not getting what you want for that ride its cause you excepted the ride to early. The total amount lyft and uber are charging the pax is around $2.°° per mile.
That’s not true lmao
Glad I’m retired now all rideshare companies screw the contractors and passengers maybe when Trump is elected they will put the CEOs in prison where they belong
I used to make 2000 and now I make 1200 😢😢😢
Yep me too. That's why I got a hybrid car. If they are going to reduce fares than I look at my business and see if there are ways to reduce my costs on other things to help offset the reduction.
Take every ride like I do. Small market and I still make $1700 per week. For 60 hrs.

Philadelphia is the worst. You gotta put in seventy to ninety hours to put six hundred dollars a week
If you can give me an email I want to send you some rides that were offered to me in New Jersey that would make you freaking sick Charlie in New Jersey.
sergio@therideshareguy.com do you want to do an interview
It's all completely ridiculous. I don't even know how people in places like California or why you guys even drive. $5 gallon gas and they're going to pay you $3.12 on a trip? All of it is b*******. I don't even know why people do it anymore. It's much more profitable to park your car and go work at Chick-fil-A or in and out
Offer stands, come on and talk about it sergio@therideshareguy.com
Here in Connecticut i had a ride pick up a package to drive 2:30 hours for only $35 ,😂is this for real? Common Uber personal
That is a ride that I would've rejected even with a hybrid car. That's only $14 an hour gross.

Because he's not locked out?
@@sergioSMTMC1 but $700?
Possibly because a lot of drivers take Sunday off.
@@Klaista2k I worked there from 2015 2023. Always worked Sundays, $400 was the avg. Thats a good day, let alone $700
