    Great episode as always! Catherine is a wonderful example of a veteran driver worth their weight in gold. How shortsighted can Uber & Lyft be ?!? Sergio as you explain to us 80% of the rides are done by 20% of full time/veteran drivers that are most importantly safe, courteous drivers that help keep the insurance cost down and the passengers satisfied. The idea that veterans are a burden because they won’t work for peanuts and that is good business throwing buckets of money as incentives to attract inexperienced new drivers that won’t last more than a few months is pure insanity. I think this is what Uber & Lyft CEOs should realize. It’s a valuable skill to drive day in day out without accidents and be pleasant and respectful to passengers at the same time. 🙏🚙

    I am DONE driving for Lyft after being a part-time driver off and on for over 6 years. I already have a full-time career making 65k per year as a Dog groomer. Why should I continue driving for Lyft only making $15-$20 per hour before expenses when I already make $45 per hour at my real job? I used to make more like $30+ per hour on Lyft when hitting bonuses, but ever since the new CEO took over the only way I can hit those bonuses is driving 8+ hours per day. IMPOSSIBLE for a part time driver who already has a career. Just get a regular job guys, not worth it anymore.

    Something is beyond my understanding! I always ask myself why these companies don't raise the rides fees on the rider like everything else increased? I mean why charge the rider only 4 bucks for a short trip in 2024? By increasing fares, these companies make more and also drivers can make more to cover their expenses and make some profit

      @smartin684 3 месяца назад +1

      I think you may have things mixed up. In my market there is no such thing as a $4 trip for a rider. The lowest it goes for a ride is about $8.25 and on that trip the DRIVER would get paid about $4 (maybe less). Right now as Im typing this I checked the Uber rider app and to get a ride going 0.25 mile from my house would cost me $11.68 and I know the driver would make no more than $4. You ask why the companies don’t raise rates on rider? Well they do, but the money does not get passed on to the driver. Uber keeps the increased price of the ride. Uber / Lyft don’t care about the driver, their concern is how to charge the passenger more and pay the driver less so THEY make more money. They DO..NOT..CARE..ABOUT..DRIVERS!

    • @TahoeKing
      @TahoeKing 3 месяца назад

      @@smartin684 I'm in Canada so I was referring to the situation here. Uber take is 25% of the fare plus taxes, which isn't bad compared to you guys in the states! However, zero incentives or offers here! Also we don't have upfront fares (assumingly it is coming in 2024) so we accept trips blindly and the fares are not equivalent to the inflation we have in the last 2 years. By the way in Canada it's mostly an Uber market, Lyft share here is almost nonexistent.

I would handle this before I swiped start the trip. Some decided to exit the car and cancel and some stayed and were fine with it. Never had a problem after that.

    I have been driving part-time for about a year Uber only and recently started driving full-time in the past month or two and added Lyft. One trick I have discovered is that If I pick someone up with Uber while I am driving them to their destination I stop Uber and start Lyft and try to find a lift pick up near the destination of the Uber drop off and start the lift trip getting paid by both companies at the same time. drop off the Uber passenger pick up the lift passenger now stop lift and start Uber and do the same thing to again get paid by both companies at the same time. I've been able to increase my hourly by 25 to 50% depending on how busy it is and whether or not I can cycle through rides to find parallel rides on both apps.

    The mystery surge "heat map" has been in effect in Cincinnati since December (approximately) This has severely decreased my earnings. Everything she says is true - the disappearing incentives, the hourly cap with upfront. I have been telling everyone about this for a while now and on New Years Eve the surges were nearly non-existent even though the heat map was blazing purple all over. Example: I got a ride to drive about 6 blocks downtown for $14. Passenger was charged $44. And I wondered why no tip. LOL

I know Uber dont want to do tayt because then they cant steal our cleaning fee. If you can prove through dashcam the customer did these things it should be acceptable to request a $20 cleaning fee. This does not include cleaning fees for bodily fluids,

    Excellent little interview for sure. I too agree I hate the occasional time someone gets in my car smelling badly but the majority of my rides are airport rides so I eliminate that possibility by simply picking and choosing a little bit better but there are times when you can't help it and you accept a ride in the city and someone smells like whatever they're smoking or whatever they're drinking and it's truly truly truly off-putting. But when I get anything even slightly irritating or off-putting or bothersome about any particular Rider I'm super nit picky and I'll give them a I'll give them a one star. If only to send the message that not everybody getting in the car is getting a free ride in terms of scoring since we get scored so often without any sensitivity to our situations are the things that we have to manage the drivers and I don't think Riders really bear the brunt or bare any bad Juju. I think it's certainly High time that they're held accountable for their behavior and for their etiquette in the car

      These gig apps and cell phones are the equivalent of adult busy boxes to keep ppl distracted from the real effects of the "Building Back Better " economy.
      You've seen those busy boxes for babies right? Spin the wheel, turn the knob, open the little door with the .mirror behind it so you can "see the baby",, lol yeah same thing but for adults.
      Doordash in Seattle was forced to pay gig workers 78 cents a mile and 44 cents a min or a min of $5 an order. Now orders have decreased by 2,150/day or 30,000 less orders over two weeks.
      But at least car costs are being covered (as long as you're sitting still with the motor off and not getting robbed or carjacked while doing so)
      44 cents a min imagine that! $26.40 an hour. Is it any wonder doordash chose to pay $5 min per offer instead? More than $5 at a 44. cent per minute rate waiting 5 minutes for an order to be made...wait another 5 minutes for customer to come to the door.
      Imagine if rideshare drivers got paid for driving to the customer at that rate!
      Upfront pricing is upfront bullshit.
      Turn the apps off and put the busy boxes away. Lmao

    Drivers on Uber and Lyft are not Independent Contractors - whether it's for part time and/or Full time hours. For example, the fact that drivers do not have access to their ratings and reviews left by Passengers. When I go out to a restaurant I can see and leave a (Google) review of the establishment/Business. As a driver, you don't have full access to that from Uber/Lyft. you see a few numbers with not much data as to the why. When you work a 9-5 job every employee has a file that's held by the HR department. You can request that file by writing a letter however, you may not get everything in that file. As an independent Contractor you need to run your business and information from ratings should be 100% accessible to every driver from Uber and Lyft. Same goes for earnings as well. We are in the right to have 100% transparency because it's your business and if not then technically Rideshare drivers are employees but are purposely being misclassified for obvious reasons.

I don't always she the $ amt i drive a manual so its hard enough accepting rides n driving in city traffic. So i took only one lyft ride today. Because that was crazy what they paid and ended up an extra 20 mins for the trip lyft gave $0 extra!!

    All of this happening in Tulsa. There’s no way to make stacking useful. Lyft offered “Turbo” percentages added to base rates plus surges. Base rates were dropped to the point that a driver might make less than the normal rate or if they are lucky, make $.30 more than the normal rate. This with a “40% “ turbo and a $2 surge.

    The way Uber application is written is to adapt live automatically towards a preset profit for Uber at the financial expense ( = loss ) of the driver.
    Do you think that this is legal?
    If every company in the country was doing this abuse in the labor field, it would be a violent revolution in the USA.
    Uber must make such a level of profit that assures the tens of million dollars bonus for its CEO...😉
    The driver doesn't matter to corporations, and you can complain as much as you want about raising costs, lower wages, etc, because if you don't get organized into an organization that can fight back legally for what's fair wages, then nothing can be done in this situation unless the government from the labor department intervenes.
