Thats how I started, working tons of hours at first, then I looked down at the speedometer, had to buy a new set of tires, then brakes. new car smell is gone and so is the new car feel.
Don’t forget new drivers are treated like royalty for the first few weeks. They get quests and challenges, boost+, etc. Then after like 3 weeks, just base fare pay.
I drive in the same area as Heng. I've cherry picked my way to sub 15% AR on both platforms with a few simple rules. No shared rides, no multi stop, try to avoid pickups more than 3 miles away, no trips less than $1 per mile including pickup distance.

I think people are forgetting why we do rideshare. It's to get people to their destinations. We have the choice of accepting the ride or not. We can't gripe about it after the fact. Understandably Uber and Lyft are not being upfront about the $ that's the part that angers all of us. Passengers are getting screwed too. The reflection on how you drive is important so you can get a tip regardless of the destination drop off. I may have a $5 fare which is a couple miles away and I'll get tipped. I can go to the airport and get tipped. Disposition is everything, including helping the passenger get their luggage out of the trunk or assisting the elderly get their grocery bags. I see so many lazy drivers that don't want to help the passenger especially the older females. You carry that anger because someone threw up in your car and it carries on to the next passenger and the next, etc. Stop driving if you don't like it stop ! I love what I do. That's why I have my own clients. I feel that a lot of drivers feel entitled that's not how it works because that disposition displays on the freeway & the streets. I'm not perfect, but you know what? No one is!
Have business cards ready, nothing expensive, when you go the extra mile for customers, they usually ask how to get ahold on you for other rides.. I picked an older couple up at the airport… they asked for my number- now I bring them to Doc appts, grocery shopping etc..

"Spreadsheet" Bingo! He gets it. I had a business advisor ask me about my cost per mile early on and I wasn't even thinking about that. I was focused on my hourly rate. Business owners can't think like that. Profit is what we want in business, not just topline revenue. I wish I knew this when I was two weeks in.
@sergioSMTMC1 yes I am.....Im just pointing out the total miles which includes things not on his spread sheet...tires....oil changes...he can get a tax relief if he does the standard deduction of 68 cents.....put thats all up front until tax time...also in 48 months he will start to be looking at a new vehicle
@@edmor127 I've updated my spreadsheet to include oil change, tires, and insurance. So have those cost down for now. I'm not sure about adding in depreciation, because I'm just looking to see what my out of pocket expense is at the end of each day in comparison to what was grossed.
Hey my guy working 7 days a week no longer makes Uber & Lyft a "flexible" way to earn income. You're going to burn yourself out and drive your car into the ground. Make sure you're prepared for the reality. Good luck my friend
Only 3 weeks into the gig, so just testing the waters and seeing how the market is like. And it is flexible in the sense that when I had to take my son to the doctor for an appointment, I just did it. I didn't have to ask permission from anyone or worry about it.

Yup, hit a deer in January @ 55mph with an Uber passenger in my car. Uber's insurance has $2500 deductible (which means I pay the first $2500!). Body shop says it will cost $2400, and won't be done until early March. So I fixed it myself in 2 weeks, spending approx $700 in parts. My 15-20 hrs of labor were all on me. But hey, got back on the road quickly and spent 1/3 of the estimate. RUclips videos are awesome!!

It's the weekends that is taking time away from the kids right now, but I don't plan to do long weekends all the time. That isn't a long term thing that I think I will do. I'm still trying to figure out my schedule and what works best for me and my family.
Gas cost will be extremely high for a Lexus AWD SUV. He should only be driving Uber Black or Uber Premier or Uber Comfort. The depreciation hit is also gigantic b/c the SUV is a luxury vehicle.
Where do you guys find these ride challenges on Lyft? I'm a platinum tier driver (almost elite) I've been driving for almost 5 months and I have still never seen a ride challenge being offered.
Right now Uber every slow in Anchorage Alaska. We don't know why and what is the reason why slow. It use to every busy but suddenly Uber become every slow and no body know why.
Work the math. Figure gas average per month which is $600/month for me (not reimbursed). After doing this over 4 years, I know maintenance costs average $3,000-$4,000 per year overall. Divide that by 12 months. Do some math.
Wow, I know that I am lucky to be in the Boston market (lots of schools and very small area so easy to avoid lots of dead miles) but whenever you talk actual numbers it is startling to me just how bad it is in other markets. I consider it a bad day if I am making much less than $30 an hour gross from the minute I leave my house until I get home, including breaks... On a good day (but not exceptional) it should be closer to $35. To hear that $25 per online hour is not too bad, in a market that is probably more expensive to live in than mine... I am shocked they can get any of you out of your driveways... And I can't even multiapp because I do the Hertz rental with Uber.
Heng, don't listen to Sergio as far as using the stay in the area filter in san diego. Ive tried that in the area and it just doesn't work there because san diego is a little more spread out between the different areas. I end up down there almost once a week from LA. I only drive lyft and in my settings i turn off the switch rides feature. But i keep the add queue rides on and i actually cherry pick from those as they pop up during a current ride. I'm almost 10 years in this game, i drive on average about 8.5 to 9.5 hours 5 days a week and maybe 6 or 7 days a week during the summer when its hot and i put away those earnings to compensate for the winter slow down and the rainy season as i don't drive in LA on rainy days or big drinking holidays. my rating is 5☆. Almost 22k rides. On the days i end up in the san diego area i get a majority of the requests in and around the la Jolla area and they always want to go back towards the airport. Since you live there you're not trying to get rides back to Los Angeles where i live. What i have learned though is without having to set filters if you position yourself near the train stations that run between san diego and Oceanside Carlsbad area it seems to briefly surge every time the trains come in and those riders are looking for the short ride home or to the shopping area or restaurant areas. Good luck and safe travels.
@sergioSMTMC1 only for the stay in area filter. I've been down there to many times. It doesn't work the same as if he was in say around ucla or Culver city. Maybe in the Carlsbad Oceanside area because even without the filter the rides are short because of the train station passengers. As far as all the other stuff you tell him to do regarding spreadsheets and stuff you can give him all the advice you need to help him. I don't have any issues with that stuff as in my 10 years as a rideshare driver. I don't use any of that stuff and I with my 40 years of driving experience i trust my driving habits and how I was taught to drive to keep myself and my passengers safe at all times. And it's reflected on the many comments left in my driving profile. You and your channel give great advice. I'm only referring to the stay in area filter in San Diego. He would have to be in the perfect area for it to work effectively. And I've been down there many times and it doesn't work. When I'm down there the rides always funnel the Same way. If your in Carlsbad or Oceanside you're going to only go south or stay on that area. If you're in San Diego in and around the sea world old Town area you're gonna get hit with rides going back towards the area I forget the name of the area but its similar to like the west Hollywood area in LA. I did notice though that the ride totals seem higher down there vs LA market for shorter rides.
And I have to add, that while I'm usually down there I don't take any of those rides as I I'm always trying to get a ride back towards LA. And usually the closest to getting home i get is Oceanside. Then its dead miles back to Irvine. Pisses me off every time. Lately though with the amtrak being out through San clemente I actually did pretty good getting rides back towards LA. But I saw yesterday they started running the train service again. So I won't be looking for rides into San Diego from lax unless it's paying as good as the last one I gave last Friday. $154 bucks and 50 tip. Last week my lyft percentage guarantee was 88%. right now this week after 3 days of driving, I think I'm at 35 rides 80% earnings on my end and 28.5 hours and just over 720 bucks. I probably would have been higher but I wasted about 2.5 hours yesterday morning when the app wouldn't give me a ride from the lax queue after I didn't get matched with a 630am drop off it took almost 3 hours to move 30 spots. But I don't usually drive lax that early as I was only out early to get a full day in before I called it a day once it started raining as I don't drive in LA when it rains.
Sergio's advice was specific to the guarantees. His advice to flush out garbage trips with an area filter on got me $573 in 8 hours of work. I wouldn't have gotten that taking the long trips that Lyft baits newbies with.
@@BlendedFamilyMan lol. There are no long trips in San Diego, at least I haven't gotten any when down there, they are all $5 to $8 range and occasionally a few $13 to $15 rides. That's why I was saying he's already doing almost 20 plus rides a day, if anything the stay in area filter will slow down his ride frequency. Even in LA market the stay in area filter i use it only when I'm in the lax queue. Because it allows me to cherry pick longer rides but also allows me to accept short $12 rides going 1 or 2 miles and the filter last 3 hours. If you get can match with a longer ride outside of the 5 miles radius it doesn't take any filters away from your daily total. Because if you're trying to cherry pick lax rides without the filter on, if you miss or don't accept a ride after 3 chances you get bumped to the end of the queue.
Conspiracy theory comment incoming...........The rideshare market was set forth to speed up ridding the highways from fossil fuel automobiles. Uber pusheds me hard to buy or rent an electric car almost daily!😂
Hi Sergio and everyone here. How do you or anyone here deal with passengers playing videos and music on their phones too loud? I’m thinking of sending a text before picking them up with this sample text. As part of our commitment to providing excellent customer service and ensuring the highest level of safety and comfort for all our passengers, we kindly request that you use headphones when listening to music or viewing videos on your phone during the ride. This policy helps us minimize distractions and create a more enjoyable experience for everyone on board. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We look forward to serving you and making your journey as pleasant as possible. What do you guys think of this message and what do you guys do or handle this situation? I’m concerned that asking a passenger while they are in the car may give me a lower rating. Thank you.
The Uber and Lyft algorithm is treating/offering better deals for the new drivers so they can take advantage of them, they encourage them to quit theirs jobs and invest in a car before they show them the real game.
At the biggining everything is beautiful working with these 2 companies, until the end of the year comes and you end up with no money saved and owing money to the irs and with a bunch of miles on your car. When you see your income after all those expenses and divide them by the 52 weeks in the year and then by the 48 or 72 hour you worked in the week, thats when you realize you not making any money maybe $6 or less then $4 dollars an hour after paying the IRS. Then next few year, you see your pay getting cut every year and the surge and promotions. This are the only 2 companies that worked backwards, you never get a pay raise any year, they keep cutting your pay each year, they keep hiring more and more new drivers cause they dont pay them any benefits and keep hurting the older drivers who are complaining that is really slow and their not getting that many rides, its really something to saturated even more and more the market to destroy their own drivers. Then the algorithm kicks in and delayed those drivers who want to work the whole day and 7 days a week.
But Uber is making record profits, included into the S&P 500, and making shareholders happy. They will continue to operate like this as they have an endless supply of desperate drivers. For every driver that quits realizing it's not profitable, another signs up.
@@Derek_1111 yea they like to play those games cause it's really easy for anybody to sing up or work with this companies it's crazy how many in experience drivers they have and with no training or background checks.
@user-km4gm6kb6s I was a taxi driver and a NEMT driver for about 10 years and made a decent income. Decided to give Uber a go a month ago and that didn't last long. In my first week the math wasn't adding up. After expenses/car depreciation and future repairs I was making maybe $3to$4 an hour. I realized why when I saw the earnings break down and Uber was taking 60% of the fares. No wonder riders don't want to tip. They're already paying $15 for the ride and I'm getting about $6 of that.
So i have a 3 dollars surge for a ride and i accepted it it was supposed to be $10.34 but i got to the destination and waited 7min for the rider so i got paid for the wait time but when i completed the ride it was supppsed to be 13.and some change and i realized they took away my surge and i onky received pay for the ride and the waiting time no surge
Regarding the response to a safety incident. I was given a time frame of an alleged incident. If they want my response to be as accurate as possible, then give an EXACT trip. Don't give me 3 days of guesswork.
Sergio I've been a Uber driver for the past 5 years And lyft Driver I'm not making no money no more I don't I do not get request if I do I get a $3 Or $5 I do not get requested like that no more What I mean is I sit around for 5 to 8 hours without getting no request I move from hotspot to hotspot to cherry pick and I do not get nothing and return Do you know any Body that's going through the same thing I'm going through If you know someone or you can help me out I'll appreciate that and inbox me I'm from Philadelphia I can use your help Sergio
There is a difference between new drivers and old drivers..The new drivers don't know what a trip used to pay..So its easier cause they don't know how bad they are getting screwed..
I puked in my mouth once he said he worked 60 hours a week . He likes the flexibility-lol- He is a slave . He just doesnt know it yet . He is going to fuck up his car. Sergio , doesnt matter how many people you warn aabout uber - the fools decide to jump right in the deep end.
The apps always favor the driver when new. Getting them hooked. Slowly weaning them down to the garbage pay that we drivers are getting now... Sergio, let's see him again in 3 months for an update. I predict he'll be moving on from rideshare...
@sergioSMTMC1 I been driving Uber for 6 months now. I used to see $20 surge around me often. They even had a geo fence area Torrance to Palos Verdes for $3 extra for every ride, for 8 hours Friday-Sunday. Never see any of that anymore. They did it to get me comfortable with the job. Then slowly took it all away to the point that I'll get in my car to start at 4 am, see 15 offer come in and reject all 15 and go back in my house and say forget it. I definitely like the job itself, but the pay has got to change.
I'm 23 mins from a drop off at LAX. I'm tired of the $11 offers to drive someone to LAX at 4am that doesn't have a friend or spouse to help them. LAX rides should automatically be extra pay for us. It's not like they are going somewhere leasurely like the beach to relax. They have somewhere important to be and the pay should reflect it.
I usually respect all guests, but this guy does not help us, the ones that we have been doing this for a long time (10 years on my case) and we do really need the money. I feel that he is stealing from us..... sorry.
The moment he said he started right after the valentine day protest, I stopped the video. Meaning All those people protesting out there have lost their marbles. Sorry but I ain’t buying BS from these drivers. I tell people don’t do this gig, don’t get stuck and mess up your life and car. The narrative is the same selling freedom, time with family but with a twist. Oh wait ! All those drivers protesting nation wide must take this drivers advice. But this new driver said hey ! these dollar trips are amazing let me screw my car for a dollar. Not being negative but I can tell you from experience there is no way you going to make money from ride share any more. Don’t fall for the casino gamified trap find something else.
The protest was to gain media attention to the current situation for rideshare driving and gig work. So far in my market, I'm making money for it to make sense for me to continue. Using a spreadsheet, I can tell which are good days and bad days, and reflect on that at the end of the day to see how I can do better.
Segio should have asked Heng if he have any relatives or friends that got killed in the 1970s in Cambodia during the Cambodian genocide . 2.5 million Cambodian were killed between 1975 to 1979.
At the same time drivers in Minneapolis are fighting for fair wages and drivers everywhere are dealing with perpetual pay cuts, this channel is running yet another Uber propaganda informercial featuring another outlier big-bucks earing driver. The one time Sergio interviewed a typical driver a couple of months ago who was struggling with pay cuts and declining earnings, Sergio wasted no time distancing himself from that interview.
@mancywalker1325 Why so cynical? Please keep your bile to yourself, the man is simply trying to better his lot for the sake of his family. There is a learning curve involved with rideshare and Sergio and his team are gracious enough to help others. Why not try helping others Nancy?
"Most drivers have no clue 🙄 " 7:57 Very pretentious and arrogant statement 🙄 It's driving. And there are countless competent and professional rideshare drivers. Your optics are myopic. Have respect for your supposed "community."
That a rideshare gig thing is OVER …. I am shocked they can get any of you out of your driveways... And I can't even multiapp because I do the Hertz rental with Uber.
Welcome to a nightmare…. Don’t give up!
I see Quests are back in my area on Uber. I think there’s one this weekend $60 extra for 45 trips.
@sergioSMTMC1 dang.
Your quest is just peanuts bro

Thank you.
I've been doing ride share for about a month. And I absolutely love it. This is a really fun video to listen to!
Wait till somebody pukes in your car. You will lose that love.
And get disrespected
Worse gig to do,honey moon be over soon
Your enthusiasm won't last long. They take half of what they charge the rider
Ignore the negativity, it's fun work and you set the tone in your car. Enjoy it.

To me depreciation is when a car, is in the car not doing sht .
Welcome to the ride share robbery

@sergioSMTMC1 yes Sergio, am a donkey too.
He has to park that RX350 to much gas for doing X. Buy a used 5k$ Prius
@sergioSMTMC1 best part he can sell it and not lose much if he goes back to W2
There is a difference between new drivers and old drivers..The new drivers don't know what a trip used to pay..So its easier cause they don't know how bad they are getting screwed..
very good work 1800 a week is awesome lets see after the honeymoon start..great bonus he will do good
I puked in my mouth once he said he worked 60 hours a week . He likes the flexibility-lol-
He is a slave . He just doesnt know it yet . He is going to fuck up his car.
Sergio , doesnt matter how many people you warn aabout uber - the fools decide to jump right in the deep end.
Go get a job buddy embarrassing 2 kids and a wife. I would never do that . I'm retired and this is how I feel this is a job for retired people.
So I had sent two replies. But seems RUclips deleted my other reply.
As driver's you have the choice to accept the ride or not
I usually respect all guests, but this guy does not help us, the ones that we have been doing this for a long time (10 years on my case) and we do really need the money.
