    I owned one of these for around 4 months a few years back. I had it for only 4 months because it was ridiculous at rd speeds, trying to keep it within the 50km typical road limit in most cases was painfully difficult and i clocked up 3 tickets in the first month. On the High ways doing 100 110, it settled down a bit and was noticeably happier. On the 1 track day i did with it , its came alive while admittedly scaring the hell outta me too when i did wind it open. It didn't take long to realize it was every liability i could think of on 2 wheels so she had to go. Ive since ended up on V2 Street Fighter which is considerably more practical and arguably fun for my riding ability .. and no speeding tickets.. yet!

    1299 will likely be the replacement for my 899. I have ridden many s1000rr's and honestly they're probably the best all round sports bike package you can buy. But at no point did I want to buy one. It's great but just didn't fall in love with it and they're so capable but I find them pretty detached and not raw like the panigale's.
    Each to their own ofcourse

      +Finding Neutral Yeah, I know what you mean though I'm yet to ride a BMW sports bike - they may be technically sound but what is that squinty look all about eh??

    Thanks for a great vid TMF. Just to say that you don't need to worry about mentioning that the bike is uncomfortable. I think we all need to accept that any sports bike requires a certain level of fittness to ride, if not, then there are plenty of retro, street fighters and adventure bikes to choose from... Its also good practice to do a few warm up exercises befor each ride. Keep up the good work!

    In all of my bike history, of riding and owning a lot of bikes , over the last 40 yrs , I will never forget my 06 Zx10r, 107mph in first gear when you hit the Rev limiter , those were the days ,,, 3 yrs ago before my heart attack, now happy plodding around on my old 21 yr old fazer 600, that duke sure is a nice weapon not sure I would ever pay that sort off brass for a motorbike if I could afford one personally, abit much for today’s roads , and a lot for a track bike ,,,,,as usual great video to your usual excellent standards Mr Flyer , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧

    Love the panigale 1299s, track day on that will give you a grin. Took out the tuono factory and panigale, preferred the Ducati for all types of riding on the UK roads, even behaved itself in town unlike the Tuono which was choppy. You’re right it is semi comfortable for a super sports

    I used to have the 2013 BMW S1000RR which was a great street bike, rides great, smooth, and fast as politician is corrupt. I was curious how they stacked. I think I would choose the S1000RR as it has way better day-to-day and will stay with the Ducati on the track.

      +TheMissendenFlyer Now that is very true. The Ducati looks like a 24 year old Sofia Loren with wheels. The S1000RR has a face only a mother could love, or as they say a face for radio, but boy was it an awesome bike.

  • @zorrozorro42
    @zorrozorro42 7 лет назад +1

    That's a gorgeous bike there but I struggle to see the point of it on a regular road. If I won the lottery though I'd buy one in a heartbeat, if only for it to sit in the living room where I can drool over it. That was a shocking looking road btw. I think the Moon's smoother.

    The Panigale does not like to be under 5-6k RPMs.
    Even my 959 grumbles under 4-5k. It is just how the bike is.

    I've ridden the 899, the 1199 (and the V4S just a few months ago) but not the 1299, to be honest I found the 1199 slightly intimidating as the power came in with a bang a bit like a race tuned two stroke but of course with a lot more power, I believe Ducati ironed out these "eccentricities" on the 1299 which appears to be much more user friendly, Ducati themselves described the 899 as a better road bike and from my short spell on the 899 it's something I couldn't argue with, in fact of all the Ducatis I've been lucky enough to ride the only one that betters the 899 is the V4 , I've talked to a couple of people who've changed from the 899 to the 959 and both agreed the 899 was the better bike of the two ,with a much better "soundtrack" and no power advantage from the 959 despite its extra 57cc, no doubt lost to the more severe Euro4 emission regulations. btw can we expect your review of the V4S anytime soon.

    Also you can have an auto blipper that's identical to the one on the 1299s fitted to the 899 - I did and it's flawless :)

    thanks for the reply. I've read the 959 is a more comfortable bike and a lot better for commuting is that true. I'd be just as happy with a 959 as 1299 and being 6 foot comfort is a serious issue for me as the bike will be main mode of transport. i don't have any experience with sport bikes do you know any that are considered comfortable? again thanx again and ride safe. also most of my journeys will be in London where it's not that bike friendly, not compared to say the north (England).

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад +1

      Well the Panigale is considered comfortable for a sports bike but I would think for a 6 footer it may be an issue - best to go and sit on one and see what you think....and yes definitely the 959 would be better for commuting than the 1299 but that's like saying a Lamborghini is better than an Ariel Atom for the school run...true but you still wouldn't use it for that primary purpose!

    Great video. How did you find the heat off the exhaust? I was out on one during a very hot day and the heat through the seat from the exhaust was unbelievable. Put me right off it much to the salesman's disgust. Other than that it was some piece of kit.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад

      +dave80h Well I'm used to it from my 899 and so far (in the cold British weather) I've found it positively beneficial! I didn't notice it was any hotter on the 1299.....of course it remains to be seen what it is like on a really hot day! I love the looks of the Panigale so much I can cut its foibles quite a lot of slack :0) Thanks for stopping by - TMF

  • @pbaz72
    @pbaz72 8 лет назад +5

    Not sure how you can say the 899/959 is better. Maybe if you got the revs above 4k you might have realised how good the engine is. The 1299 is easily the best bike on the planet for handling and nailing the corners.
    Each to their own as they say!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад +4

      ...I didn't say it was better per se, just better as a road bike as the power is more usable, the 1299 is very expensive for very little gain if you're just riding on the road is my view....

    • @pbaz72
      @pbaz72 8 лет назад +2

      The electronic suspension alone separates this from every other bike I have ever ridden S1K etc. I don't think I have ever felt safer going fast especially in corners.

    I'm a complete beginner and the Ducati is my dream bike. after 12 months of riding would one be able to transtion from 500cc to that safely. also what is it like as a commuter bike? great vid love the way you review the bike and keep things simple anyways be cool and ride safe.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад +2

      Hi Mark, the Panigale is my dream bike too and it took me 5 years to transition to it - I'm sure I could have switched earlier but it is a completely different kettle of fish to a 500cc road back (depending on what it is of course). Take one for a test ride and see what you think, if you are very confident and have the will power to not push it then you'll be fine with it..... Wouldn't make a great commuter though, could be done but let's face it sports bike's aren't comfortable and the Panigale runs hot under your backside at the best of times, sat in commuter traffic would be pretty unpleasant. I don't want to put you off, just go in with your eyes open and think carefully (which you obviously are!). Thanks for the kind words, all the best - TMF

    Phwoar! Just listen to that V-twin. Isn't it a shame the camera never quite does a V-twin justice.. So much nicer in person. Those 144Nm of torque though must be something to experience.. My 1190 has roughly 125Nm and boy does she rocket towards silly speeds! I can only imagine what less weight and even more power would feel like, although its the riding position that gets me, where as the 1190 is upright and much like your GS in terms of comfort. Do you really not find yourself stretching your back out a lot and wishing for the beemer on rides of 1 hour+?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад

      Hi Oliver - Yes the mighty V-Twin does sound the biz doesn't it - you can't really get the full effect on-road, but on the track these "Superquadro's" sound amazing to my ears....comfort was a big concern when I bought my 899 but it has surprised me how quickly I got used to this alien position - rides of an hour plus really aren't an issue once your bones become accustomed to it. I'm not saying it's GS comfy obviously, but it's not anywhere near as bad as I expected (and yet still bought one!). Gorgeous bike....

    Hi Bro! Looks like a nice bike, allways love the Red as my Street Triple R 2011 ive has from last Month.i think you said! 205 bhp for the Ducati! If im right in Earing! Thats a 100 bhp more then my bike.very interesting Video as allways.thanks Bro.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад

      +Paul Gregroy Yes, 100hp more sounds like a lot doesn't it (especially when you consider my little honda has less than 30hp!) - I have to say the 1299 doesn't feel twice as powerful as the Street Triple, maybe a third as much more - I guess this power thing has a law of diminishing returns.....

      TheMissendenFlyer pick it up next week buddy. Bit nervous as the 8 is such a well balanced road bike. When I tested the 12 I felt a bit like a Christmas from when I was young, parents got me a BMX and then I realised I couldn't do any of the tricks! Ha ha. What I mean ofcourse is it's so powerful and so capable you can't scratch the surface. But I do use my bikes on track, so that was the idea.... fingers crossed I've not made a mistake

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад

      Good luck! Out of interest do you take out track insurance? I found that very expensive on the 899 (£200/day) and it's prevented me doing more track days to be honest....

    • @findingneutral426
      @findingneutral426 8 лет назад

      TheMissendenFlyer never have to be honest. I'd imagine there's not many that do..
      I never push that hard, like to have a bit in reserve just in case!
      I guess if I did have a big off, it'd probably be a case of wheeling it out on to the road and phone the insurance company like I've seen people do in the past - oops

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад +1

      Yeah all understood....it's not so much what you do on track yourself, it's if someone else over-does it and takes you out with him/her....I'd hate to walk away with a written off Panigale as a result of someone else's error and not have insurance. Not sure what I will do this year, I love the odd track day, just don't want it to be a trash day!
